Breaking Bad: Season 2 - Episode 10 & 11 - Patreon Version

Comments

Jeff I.

Glad y'all are enjoying the show so much! Good summing up George, with the phrase about the show being "messy good". Really looking forward to the next two episodes with y'all, as that's where the show really takes off for me and sets up Season 3 so well. And yes Simone, that is the actor for Q who is playing Jane's dad.

Fuzzy

My weekend was mostly spent waiting for tuesday! And cleaning, lots of cleaning.. moving away soon. I hope you both had an excellent weekend too! Thanks for everything.

Onno Smits

I'm loving these episodes! But also, only 2 more weeks until more Ted Lasso! 👀🎉

Zoran24

My weekend was okay. :)

Jeff K

Finally. The chicken man has arrived.

Actuarial Lurker

"Stay out of my territory"....Breaking Bad's version of "Just when I thought I was out they pull me back in" externalizing the blame for loving the lifestyle, especially after dissing Hank by the poolside

8bitAndy

Last weekend was difficult. After months of stoking the embers of a passionate but doomed to be short lived relationship, I finally accepted the harsh reality that all good things must end and reluctantly forced myself to at long last progress to the end of the game and see the ending to Baldur's Gate 3. It was an emotional weekend for sure. Thank you for asking. :D <3

michael clarke

should do watchmen sometime. its just one season, thats it. its really good imo.

Actuarial Lurker

And the look when Simone realizes that Q is Jessica Jones' dad

Shane Driscoll

Walter's obsession with clearing out the rot has a real "out, out, damn spot" vibe.

Jobbe Smit

Starts with a shoulder to cry on, ends with a dick to ride on.

Jeff K

To answer Simon's question: yes, Jane's dad is played by Q from Star Trek. John de Lancie is the actor's name.

ThePVO

Not like Q was a big part of TNG or anything, lol

Actuarial Lurker

You will get an Elliott, Gretchen, and Walter backstory to check out your theories- just know that you're already been told in Season 1 Episode 5 that they were all grad students working together on a research project and Walter was dating Gretchen before marrying Skyler and now Elliott and Gretchen are married to each other instead and rich and Walter is barely making it....

Don Britt

The confusion about the scene with Jessie cooking the eggs: There was an anti-drug PSA from the 80s where they did the same thing with the "this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs". It became a meme for quite a while, especially in the 90s. It's an old meme, but it checks out.

Monica Alarcon

OMG Simone's face when she recognized Q!! That was delightful! I was eagerly expecting that moment!

Actuarial Lurker

Episode 11 Business School Lesson- Understand your competition before expanding into new territories

Actuarial Lurker

You have 3 lobes to each lung- so a lobectomy would remove a large portion of one of Walter's two lungs- the one where the tumor was to prevent it from metastasizing again, $190K is cheap in the US for something like that- it probably is $500K+ now plus other hospital bills

Senec

Weird but true story. I shook Q's hand once. It was at Gen Con in the 90s. A buddy of mine paid this booth of people in Klingon cosplay to track me down and lock me up for 20 minutes at their booth. In the short time I was in lockup, they brought John De Lancie in to take his picture in one of the cells. He did NOT look amused, but he did shake my hand as he walked past :D

Haye Zeus

Gus is definitely who Stringer Bell wanted to be.

michael clarke

you guys have been right to look for foreshadowing. i wont say what or where, but this is only my second time through the show and there was something that came up that straight up gave me chills. ill try and remember to let you know when its not spoiling anything.

Shonnicus

Welcome to Late Stage Capitalism in the US, Simone and George. Inferior butter to sell to the masses and a for profit healthcare system so you can't afford live saving surgery. I know it's been discussed before. Kudo's to your detective skills on this episode. You two are too good at picking up the evidence.

Steve H

YES, he is an older Q

ChickensAreRacist

Loving your reactions. I hope zero comments come along the way that spoil anything. Like a hypothetical example, sometimes someone says ‘this ain’t a spoiler but you won’t believe the twist that happens!’. That’s a hypothetical but yeah, just saying. If it’s a concern for you two, I’m sure you know it would be a good idea to mention it in any given reactions.

Zoltán Bublos

America's healthcare is so f*cked up! They basically saying to the patient that: "Yeah, I know that you don't have the money, go to home and die"

Jeff K

That's really interesting you say that, because I've actually read articles breaking down how Walter is very similar to the character of Macbeth. I don't remember if they mentioned the rot/spot comparison, but that's a damn good call on your part.

Einherj

If I remember correctly US butter is white because they feed their cattle grain and not grass. It's basically a product of factory farming.

Tenn Seven

That "this is your brain on drugs" line is from an old anti-drug commercial that used to play in the US using the analogy that a frying egg is your brain when you take drugs.

JayF

Pretty sure the cotton is put into the spoon in order to filter what's pulled into the syringe.

akaTheBARON

🖤The part where Jesse is making eggs and says "This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs" is a reference to these TERRIBLE anti-drug commercials here in the States in the early 90s. A guy would hold an egg, say "This is your brain" then crack it open in a hot pan "This is your brain on drugs" LOL. Then they made one starring Rachael Leigh Cook before she got famous where she holds up an egg and says "This is your brain" and puts the egg on the counter then holds up a frying pan "and this is your brain on drugs" and smashes the egg. Follow that up with "But wait... it's not over yet" at which point she starts smashing the whole kitchen with the frying pan. Google it, it's so funny XD. That whole campaign has been referenced/parodied a ton. Don't even get me started on the flat stoner, talking dog, and "high guys at drive-through/girl on bike" anti-pot ads of the early 2000's XD

p0sthum4n

Bonjour, mon capitan!

Ginger

As undoubtedly countless people have said before: Yes it is Q. Also, do you remember seeing Tuco in Training Day?

Patrick

I LOVE the musical scoring at the end of episode 10. It was so powerful.

Tay Schumaker

The happy birthday thing may be the most uncomfortable I’ve been watching tv

Justin Leone

Growing up in the US in the 80s and 90s, there was a ridiculous anti-drug commercial that ran incessantly in which we were shown an egg ("this is your brain"), a pan ("this is drugs"), and then the cracked egg cooking in the pan ("this is your brain on drugs... Any questions?"). That's what Jesse was referencing when cooking eggs.

Patrick

Tuco is worse IMO, Gus is just on a whole other level of successful. I can only imagine the things Tuco would be doing if he was ever as big as Gus.

Justin Leone

Fun fact about the song at the end of episode 10: It's track #10 on the album "Dear Science", by TV on the Radio. Not so fun fact: One of the band members from TV on the Radio died of lung cancer a couple years after this episode aired.

Raymond DeGraw

This past weekend I watched several reactions of yours (Scream and MI:5 Rogue Nation). But mainly I worked on the history and cosmology of a tabletop game that I made over the last ten years.

Henry 4000

it breaks my heart seeing jane doing the same thing i use to do waking up in the morning, going for that first drink of the day.

Clint Murphy

1.2 Million, not 100+ grand.

Chris

Coulda been creamcheese

Vwlss Nvwls

When Jesse is cooking the eggs and says "This is your brain. This is your brain on drugs." that was a line from an old Just Say No To Drugs t.v. campaign where they would show an egg and say "This is your brain." then show the egg frying and say "This is your brain on drugs." Or it was butter frying in a pan and it went "This is drugs." then they crack the egg and add it to the frying pan and say "This is your brain on drugs." In either case, that is what he was doing.

Chase Lonnergan

From the size and color, I would say that that was cream cheese, not "cheap butter for poor people" as some have described it.

JCR

Gus is played by Giancarlo Esposito, who has been in a number of things over the last 30 years or so. He was in the last few seasons of Homicide: Life on the Streets (precursor to The Wire, made by the same people, about Baltimore Homicide and staring more than a few of the same cast members and worth a watch in its own right). This show doesn’t let up from here. If you can actually stop watching it for a while, I’ll be impressed.

Vincent

Yes, that is Q. The actor's name is John de Lancie. I did notice how you recognized him and from what immediately before you actually said anything.

Vwlss Nvwls

Yes, Jane's father is John de Lancie who plays Q. He has been in a lot more than just Star Trek, but that is probably his best character he has ever done, so what he is known for.

JBK405

My weekend was good, I attended a Diwali service/celebration and also picked up a FANTASTIC book on Sunday ("Legends & Lattes", HEAVILY recommend for an easy, fun ready). A Junkie's Promise: 100% sincere, 100% worthless. I don't side with Gustavo Fring on a lot, but he's right on the money on that one. They mean everything that they say, they mean it right down to their soul, and it still doesn't mean anything.

Travis H

Now that he is dead I have to admit that when we started Breaking Bad I had absolutely no memory of the character Combo! When he first showed up I thought he was a one off character, and when he showed up a second time I was confused and went down a wiki hole trying to remember anything about that character! And my weekend kinda sucked, I moved wrong and hurt my back (a week before a vacation). Getting old sucks, but thanks for asking! Can’t wait to get back to Ted Lasso (still love Breaking Bad though), but just a heads up the episode lengths for most episodes are a lot longer going forward. Most of season 3 eps are hour long episodes, so plan accordingly.

james repka

Giancarlo Esposito has a career not too different from that of Bryan Cranston. A lot of character work in very popular television shows and movies, including Homicide: Life on the Streets, The Usual Suspects, etc. He had significant roles in Spike Lee films in the late 80's and early 90s including School Daze, Do the Right Thing, and Mo' Better Blues. Also like Cranston, his role in Breaking Bad as Gus Fring make him suddenly famous. As Simone mentioned he was cast in The Mandalorian in the recurring role of Moff Gideon. He was introduced in the 2nd season of The Boys as Stan Edgar, the CEO of the V corporation. He also reprised the Role of Gus in the Breaking Bad prequel series Better Call Saul. And George, you were calling him "Chicken Guy" through the episode. Keep that in mind, you will be hearing a version of that in the future.

Trevor S Bright

It's funny George how you compared Gus (the chicken man) to Lex Luthor...cuz the actor Giancarlo Esposito does the voice of Lex in the HBO Max animated series "Harley Quinn". I believe in an animated DC movie he also did the voice of Batman villain Ra's al Ghul. Plus he was Vought boss Stan Edgar in "The Boys".

Jesse

Ya'll have a great read on the show. Walt's ego is a major part of what drives him.

Josh B

Shoosh, they seem to hardly know who is in what show, so don't spoil it.

Grand Moff Slackin'

Why isn’t healthcare free? Have you seen our military??

Chris Bowles

Skyler's birthday song is famously known as one of the cringiest moments of the series.

Gary Fixler

My weekend was all tech fun. Moved the TV from the living room to my office, because it's been unused out there for 10 years. Now the Chromecast serves me up beautiful artwork all day, and I can stream. Also put up wifi rgb strip lights around the office, so now it can be all kinds of cool moods. I also set up the new Roborock, so it will finally stay clean around here. I've been such a Luddite this past decade. I'm making up for lost time.

PIG

I forget where I read this but when John de Lancie (Q) was on set for Breaking Bad, staff and actors from Breaking Bad alike were always asking him for autographs and wanting to meet him. A great show wanting to meet a great actor who played an unforgettable character. I’m nerding out just thinking about it. Been waiting for Simone to discover this for a while now :)

Rayazzie85

Hey Cinebinge! Simone, George, how ya doing? Love the reaction for the show. It's always entertaining, and always full of laughs! Seriously, it gets me excited everytime I see a new video out. Just to let you know, the whole egg moment comes from an old anti drug campaign from the 90's. It a part of a commercial. It showed an egg, (this is your brain), then cracking the egg, ( this is your brain on drugs), watching it cook in a hot skillet over a flame. Haha. Keep up the good work you two. Looking forward to the next video. 😉👍

Mark McKeown

Next week is going to be phenomenal

Jeff I.

I need a black and white meme edit of them watching the end of the next episode with the 'Hello darkness, my old friend..." song over it. Haha

Rory McDonagh

Loving these reactions, and can't wait for the final episodes of S2 next week. I think it'll be actually good for your experience watching the show to have a bit of a break after S2 to process everything that happens. But I also humbly request that you come back to Breaking Bad as soon as you possibly can. It only gets better and better from here, and after the final episodes of S2 you'll be dying to know how the story will continue.

Ludovic Ligot

Get your tissues ready for episode 12...

windyWin

Have you both seen Galaxy Quest yet? Great reaction btw.

Dan Holmes

crazy seeing someone not know who Gus is :)

INFJ-T Tyrone

It's not the military it's the military contractors. All the money for planes and tanks that actually don't exist.

Hexon66

Giancarlo Esposito was in the cast of the later seasons of Homicide: Life on the Street in the late 90s. It was the network predecessor (and imo, superior program) to The Wire. The first seasons are worth a watch, starring the brilliant, now unfortunately late Andre Braugher (afterwards in Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Detective Frank Pembleton.

Hexon66

Wow, just wrote almost the same thing before I saw this post. But also mentioned Andre Braugher, who created one of the best characters in television history in Det. Frank Pembleton. Second best detective, imo, behind Columbo. But iconic, like Omar Little, Walter White, Tony Soprano.

Honey Hermsen

Love how excited Simone got, when she realized Jane's dad is Q

Bert Johnson

Giancario was in School Daze with Larry Fish, one of Spike Lee's best, back in 1988. He's always been a fantastic actor. Skyler's always been so divisive to me. I feel they wrote her as the counter balance to Walt - they both violate morals, but Walt violates HUGE morality for good reasons while she violates minor morality for personal reasons.

Raven Dark

"Apology Girl" made me cry. God, this show is so good.

Thall

I always thought the red stuff on the money was one of those color cartridges to mark stolen money in atms. Seemed way to red to be blood to me
