Yay! (no hate towards Ted Lasso, just good to be back)

Actuarial Lurker

Pilgrimage to a Drug/Santeria shrine. Santria is a "blend" of indigenous religion/voodoo/Roman Catholicism that developed after the Conquistadors "converted" the native Mexicans. The two guys are praying for the success of their "mission"....

JediLounger

Season 1 and 2 are just the preamble. Now the real ride begins. All gas, no brakes till the end.

Adam S

Hoping you do The Boys Season Three in the future 😄

Śéáń

Oh shoot, BB came back quick. (I've not yet seen Ted Lasso, I'll have to circle back to them down the line)

michael clarke

"making an evil sandwich" made me lol.

Actuarial Lurker

Tossing the Pizza on the Roof was an accident that was left in the show for comedic effect

Jay

Walt going off about Tenerife is so good:)

Actuarial Lurker

Chicken Guy is "Gus Fring"...Goerge is correct Gus called off the hit by the Twins since they didn't have an OK from him- just like in the Mafia you need the OK from the US boss to do a hit...and the Cartel was doing this on their own

Actuarial Lurker

The PI who is connected with Gus IS named Mike

Christoph Plank

you should do Sopranos, it's very light and fluffy. Great shirt, btw, George!

michael clarke

ive been so enjoying this rewatch. with the advantage of knowing how it all plays out, it really is the best written show. how everything threads together.

Martin Roca

Yay we back, i love this season so much...

Jeff K

Anyone who uses any jelly other than grape on a PBJ truly IS evil, if you ask me.

jackers

This season aired in 2009. The "orange Mexico" became a meme few years later. I'm sure if they were making BB in 2023 they wouldn't do it. Try to be more understanding because I know that it is easy to point that out ~15 years later after we all learned that lesson through countless of memes about it.

Steve H

Grant you Walter strangling someone with a bike-lock was in self-defence, but it gave Walt a dead concience

Kevin

Yall definitely should watch Succession next after Ted Lasso. Great mix of high stakes drama and comedy. Then Better Call Saul when BB is over. BB is amazing, but BCS is possibly even better somehow.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Santa Muerte, Holy Death, you've met her now lol. I don't know if there are other interations of this figure in other cultures, since a lot of our colonized ancestors had a tendency to blend their indigenous beliefs with Catholicism, but I think that's a uniquely Mexican figure. My grandmother did not pray to Santa Muerte as far as I know, but I remember my grandmother used to have a sort of altar (it was just a jewelery box with a plate in front of it) that she would put photos of whoever she was praying for protection on, and she would put little offerings on the plate, usually toys and trinkets, sometimes food or drinks, and she would pray in front of it with her rosary beads. My mom caught her doing it and got so mad, because she was an evangelical Christian, but I always felt my grandma meant well. Kinda funny story, after she died my aunt's went through her things and found what were basically spells written on little pieces of paper, they lost their minds, but the thing was they were all protective spells, I mean it wasn't like a Hereditary situation, anyway it was hilarious to me how upset they were, they had their houses blessed and everything, but these are people who think sage is demonic lol

Vwlss Nvwls

I agree, they could of had the father do something that did not involve directing planes if he was so insistent on coming back to work. Jesse showing up to the house and closing the door on his parents is one of my favorite parts of the whole series, because I am just sure his parents always treated him like he was not good enough. So I am glad he is done with them. And for George, it is pronounced POY-YO... not POLE-LOW. :)

E. D.

Great idea. Or they could watch a mini series for a change, like Painkillers (2023), which is pretty decent and eye opening.

Vwlss Nvwls

I view Walt like Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde. He has two competing personalities, and we are watching to see which one dominates.

GBmain

I don't like Walt but I think they blame him a little too much for everything that's happened, and perhaps blame Jesse too little.. like Jesse deserves to screw his parents over that way?... very strange

Jeff I.

While I really like Succession overall, it definitely starts to drag in the third and fourth seasons as far as the overarching plot and character conflicts becoming stale/repetitive. The first two seasons are amazing, though! I think they'd really love it, and it'd be a great reaction for sure.

Jeff I.

And for you, it's pronounced poh-yo. ;-) Both syllables rhyme with the word 'go'.

sarCC

YAYYYYY! Breaking's BACK!

Jonah

Between the color difference on my two monitors, as well as the color balance between your reaction to the real show doubles up when the "mexico filter" is on, and makes them seem SUPER different. From one screen its like "tan yellowish clouds" on my other monitor it's like "Simpson's clouds" lmao Not sure how much of it is from the playback and how much is from the monitors, but yellow seems to have the biggest differences in saturation. So when there's some seriously pronounced yellows on the screen it's night and day hahaha. nothing bad about it, just funny when it's so amplified by all those elements coming together.

PIG

Was just wondering about this a moment ago… great to be back!

Tim T—

Some poor filming intern had to procure an extra large key ring, just so the twins could put the car keys on the goat.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Santería is Cuban, but yes it’s a blend of Catholic, African (most likely Yoruban beliefs) and indigenous practices. What the Twins were praying to was most likely La Santa Muerte, which also likely has indigenous Mexican origins.

Tim T—

Oh. Reacher is a perfect option for those two. Every season is self contained.

Logan Kerlee

Am I the only one that's confused, here? Where's episode 13 of season 2?

Jonah

I've watched this show through so many times recently with so many reactors, after a month off I can't for the life of me remember what all you've seen or haven't so without searching through to see what all just happened at the end of season 2 commenting on what you guys talk about is hard lol gotta tip toe so I don't accidentally spoil something coming up soon with a comparison you haven't even seen yet! lolol

Mr TV Eye

Yes, Jesses parents probably don't deserve to be seen as the a*holes. I have to admit, the scene when he bought the house feels real satisfying, but looking at it objectively, from what we know they tried it with love&understanding several time with Jesse, and than finally decided to go the tough-love route since the other way didn't worked out. Not even so different from Janes father - who got weak and didn't stick to the "not tomorrow, you're going to rehab TODAY". Regarding Walt: Yes, the butterfly-effect lead to the plan-crash in the end. But he wasn't even the starting point of that butterfly effect, Jane was an addict even long before she meet Jesse. You really can't blame Walt for that (and Jesse shouldn't blame himself either). Family tragedies happen, Jane could have died a week later by a real OD, or just got killed in an accident or whatever. It you have someone working in such a critical job as an air traffic controller, your employers must take great measures to make sure people are mentally stable after such tragedies. And I'm not trying to clear Walt. He did a lot of bad stuff. The thing he did and where his direct guilt is overlooked the most IMO was shown to us in the "Peekaboo" episode. That little kid, that's an absolute innocent victim as a direct result of what Walt is producing.

Jesse Coombs

If you think Bob Odenkirk is good here, just wait until you watch "Better Call Saul".

Philipp Roensch

Yes, a wonderfully intense start to the season already! Regarding Skyler and her boss Ted, I believe she did ask him what he would do, to start to understand Walt. Also, maybe another discussion point down the road, do you agree with Jesse's therapy to end in 'accept you are the bad guy'?

Johen Kay

Finally! The greatest show ever made.

Hi I'm George Junior, but my friends call me Geo-Ju

🖤 So spoilers for the finale of season two for those that for whatever reason are reading comments to videos, while not having watched along this far LOL But I will say, while I don't think Walt is a good guy, a product of circumstance at best, I don't put Walt at fault for the plane crash. Not one bit. Too many links in the chain of events between what he did and the crash. Sure he didn't save Jane when he could have (I'll elaborate more on this at the end) causing her dad to not be fit for work, but like you two pointed out, who's at fault really is the airline for allowing him to work. And if what Walt said about the plane's collision sensors being faulty, then there's that. To go so far as to say "well if Walt saved jane then...." you can also blame Jesse for being the reason she fell off the wagon to begin with. Would have never put Walt in the situation to make that choice (NOT blaming Jesse to be clear, and the choice to use again was Jane's and Jane's alone.) But that's my thought on Walt being to blame for the plane crash. He's a link in the chain but his involvement is too indirect, as big a factor as it was. Quick note on Jane's death. Again, not saying Walt was in the right as saving her would have been the right thing to do. But did Jane not put him in a position to at least consider not saving her? She at this point was not herself, a victim of her addiction which is sad. But she blackmailed Walt, knew way too much about him, and you could argue in his eyes Jesse's addiction to heroin was her fault. Whose to say, if they took the money and "shot it all up" as Walt would say, Jane wouldn't decide "Walt owes you more money" and blackmail him again? Also, Walt not wanting Jesse to overdose. Walt is somewhat selfish but he clearly cares about Jesse. He was conflicted when it was happening so it wasn't an easy decision. Tho... the look on his face after it went down... yikes Walt.... A part of Walt died too when he allowed her to. But I don't think that situation is as simple as Walt being the bad guy. Any bad thing he's done is a result of decisions HE has made so he's not in the clear. Not at all. But I just don't think he allowed her to die simply because she was in the way, he was not only thinking of himself but Jesse as well. Walt's hands aren't clean by a long shot, but I love this show because of all these layers and different perspectives of different characters you can look at the story through. Shame people don't do that more with Skylar. Other than the HBD Mr. President song, she's just working with the hand she was dealt. She didn't ask for any of this. Marie tho... god she's the worst XD.

I am once again coming to recommend you guys consider checking out The Sopranos — not only is it the show that by and large ushered in the "golden age of prestige television" we now live in, but it is one of the greatest shows ever made and directly responsible for Breaking Bad. As Vince Gilligan said, "Without Tony Soprano, there's no Walter White."

john blake

Hey you two you should toot your own horns more often! You’re both very tootable!

Patrick

Going back and forth between Ted Lasso and Breaking Bad is a nice mix, I'm loving it. Btw George, the double LL in Spanish is pronounced like a "Y". Pollos is "Poy-ohs"

Carl Tunney

I’m here for the kitty purring. Haha.

Grand Moff Slackin'

It’s pronounced po-yos not po-los. Double L is a y sound.

james repka

Though it's been around for hundreds of years, the modern version of Santa Muerte does come from Mexico sometime in the early 20th century. It began growing rapidly in the 90s-early 2000s and is considered one of the fastest growing religious sects in the world. It is very popular among the poor and destitute who feel the Catholic Church does not care about them. From early on Santa Muerte has appealed to the poor, including people desperate enough to commit petty crimes, sex workers, and more recently drug dealers.

james repka

No, it was scripted, which is why the pizza wasn't sliced. The unusual thing about the scene is that Cranston miraculously hit the mark perfectly on the first take.

Travis H

Fun fact: The people that actually own the house that Skylar and Walt live have to deal with a lot of people wanting to take photo of their house. But after the pizza scene aired they had to start dealing with people constantly trying to throw pizzas onto their house. It apparently got so bad that they had to build a fence around the house, and Vince Gilligan had to ask fans to stop throwing pizzas on their house!

Josh

I know this is kinda off topic but seeing you guys get back into breaking bad is something I really needed right. I just lost my friend a few days ago and I’m still dealing with that so this really helps get my mind off of that. Thank you guys

Jonah

I posted a long drawn out comment about the explosion with the hay truck and the cartel brothers, all to find out I was remember a false story, so I deleted it. however the Truck exploding was in fact a practical effect, they only had one take to get the shot, and they did walk away from an exploding truck (probably like 50-80ft away). with a massive fire ball above them. I remembered hearing a story about how it blew up too soon, or too close and they acted badass, but nearly got badly injured, but I found a video of the truck exploding from all angles and when they yell cut they don't react as if "good it's over, let's tend to these wounds" So seems like the story I remember was heavily misrepresented or I was remembering a different story and applying it to this for some reason.

jeendus

can someone tell me where theyre watching this show? Im always out of sync watching with netflix. :/ Id appreciate some help

John Richards

as an FYI: Air traffic controllers do not work an airline... it's a government function. He worked for the FAA.

james repka

I purchased all of the seasons on iTunes back when the show first aired, so I watch it on AppleTV.

djKENTO

Now you have to look up the current owners of the house. It’s a lady who put up a giant rod iron gate and sits in the drive way yelling at every curious fan who drives by. To be fair a LOT of jerks have launched pizzas on to her roof.

james repka

If you watch closely, you can see bits of "debris" falling in front of the actors, tossed by production assistants from offscreen. Along with the dark shade cast by the black smoke, this adds to the illusion that they are still really close to the explosion. "Badasses walking away from explosion" is such a cliché, but it always amazes me because I can't imagine not jumping or flinching when the actual explosion occurs and I'm impressed when actors can pull it off. Even more so here, because one of the Moncada brothers (Daniel I think) hadn't acted before so this was one of his first times on camera.

Ethan Holgate

No spoilers guys I promise but in the better call saul series you find out alot about theo tucos uncle in the wheelchair it's crazy I think you guys are going to love that series as much as B&b if you ever watch it after 👍

Jonah

I too find myself having to resync a few times an episode, I think it's on amazon or something.

Jonah

Yeah he had a bit of an Italian pronunciation there. haha

Meth Damon

Yesterday I found out the blond girl holding the mic is Brian Cranston´s daughter, next to her is DOP Michael Slovis´s daughter.

jeendus

please keep watching Breaking Bad every week, best written show ever

JJ

It’s funny how we all consume media so differently. To me, this show wouldn’t work if I didn’t like Walt on some level.

Justin Leone

"What is he doing?" One of the most entertaining facets of Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul is watching Mike do things, silently and methodically, and trying to figure out the answer to that question.

Dk

Honestly stop the show right now if you're already not rooting for Walt even a little bit. He's the protagonist of the show. You're going to hate the rest of it.

David Dotting

I'm curious what it is about Walt at this stage in the show that made you still want to root for him? I'm hard pressed to find redeeming characteristics for him.

Jesse

I don't really understand this thing where you have to find the main character "likeable". On the one hand I think you all are getting who Walt is straight away, and a lot of people don't. He's a bad guy. That doesn't mean the show isn't really interesting and fun to watch. In fact, Walter White is following the Tony Soprano blueprint which isn't the only show to follow it.

Habman

No different the The Sopranos and Dexter. You end up rooting for the anti hero

JJ

Conversely, I can’t imagine being invested in a show where you dislike the main characters. Of course Walt is “bad”, but a character being good or bad has very little to do with whether or not I like them. If I can’t find a way to empathize with a character, I’m simply less interested. Otherwise, it’s like watching a train wreck, which I don’t find in any way illuminating.

Dan Holmes

i know it's late but yeah, there is so much more nuance with walt then you are giving him credit for. the peanut butter sandwich scene is so interesting, it's not an evil guy making an evil sandwich, its a tortured soul contending with his sins while taking on the attributes of his former victims (cutting the crust off). walt is very dynamic and i hope you don't overlook that because you have labeled him as just straight up evil lol

Dan Holmes

i was lucky enough to drive through Albuquerque during the 4th season airing and made my way to several shooting locations :) Dog House, car wash and walt's house. have some cool pics right in front of it when it still looked correct. now they've ruined a piece of history. i always thought they should just put a permanent epoxy pizza up on the roof like a pizza scarecrow lol

Dan Holmes

the burnt teddy bear definitely represents a dead child

NanoFish42

Walt has not committed "multiple murders" at this point. Emilio and Tuco (Walt wasn't even the primary reason for Tuco's death, though he played a part) were 100% self-defense. As for, Crazy-8, he has a solid case considering Crazy-8 showed a clear intent to kill him before and was in the process of pulling out a weapon when he was unlocking the bike lock. Self-defense is not murder. As for Jane, you could argue that it was a murder, but you could also give a compelling case that it was merely involuntary manslaughter. There was no mens rea when he flipped her on her back and he froze with indecision when he did not flip her back. He did not decide to let her die. He ran out of time while he could not decide. Keep in mind that, in New Mexico, there is no duty to give medical aid. You can criticize him for being indecisive, but it's certainly not a clear cut murder. Not defending Walt though. What he did was bad, but too many reactors treat that scene like it was black and white. There was a ton of nuance there.

The Film Effect

I agree for the most part, but he did decide to let Jane die. That’s the whole point of the scene and why it’s such a big moment.

Hexon66

They aren't anti-heroes. Anti-heroes are actually heroes, who from cynicism or morally ambiguity struggle to be noble. Neither Tony Soprano or Walter White qualify, they are probably more accurately anti-villains. Characters who are able to display some humanity, but ultimately are villains. Dexter is more closely anti-heroic, though it's questionable how much is moral ambiguity and how much is moral ambivalence. He is amoral, rather than, like TS and WW, immoral. So closer, but still not an anti-hero.

Hexon66

Seriously George, how dare you try to objectify and categorize us baldies.... you with your luxurious raven locks! You just don't know the struggle!

Bert Johnson

I'm so happy you're watching this, because I've always meant to go back and watch it after Better Call Saul finished up. It gives so much more context and nuance to the characters, and really blows my mind when I think about the quality of writing of the two shows and how they incorporated little details and ensured continuity over the years.

Pierce

disappointing.. i joined the patreon for your Wire reactions (which were superb), but man these other ones are a tough watch. literlly having entire conversations over important and classic scenes. too bad. will be unsubbing,

Zorak

Is George going to spend the entire reaction whining about Walt?
