Is it me or did they give away half of the kills in the trailer? By the sounds of the review, it seems like just another entry that tries to cash in on a popular franchise name by copying too much from the past films. I'm surprised they're still making Alien films. How many entries in this franchise have we had now? On a somewhat related genre (sci-fi with horror combination), have you seen the movie Substance?

Trailers are terrible about showing key points of movies these days. I guess if your movie lacks enough interesting stuff to fill out a trailer they have to go with the big moments. I wouldn't classify Romulus as a cash grab. I think it is moreso a pandering effort to 'give the fans what they want,' and avoid risks. Which it does. In some ways it is a well made movie. In other ways, it's kind of awful in retrospect. If you go in with a mandate of 'do all the Alien things,' it's pretty constraining. The franchise has... well, Alien, Aliens, Alien3, Alien: Resurrection, Aliens vs. Predator (1 and 2), Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and now Alien: Romulus... and soon the Hulu series Alien: Earth. Maybe I should do a franchise overview sometime. Prometheus is a vastly underrated movie imo, and half of Covenant is really interesting. The other half is a stock Alien horror movie. Ridley Scott is apparently developing a new Alien franchise movie, and I very much hope he gets to round out what he had started with Prometheus and got cut off from in Covenant. I have not seen The Substance, but it got great reviews and I'll probably eventually watch it on streaming. It's a bit outside my preferred genres, but seems interesting enough to be worthwhile.
