So my hard drive decided to die on me last night.

Out of all the hard drives  I had, the one that decided to kill itself was the one where I keep all my client and Patreon files, my wedding photos, 5 years worth of data files AND my porn. My freaking porn!

Not sure if I got hit by that Windows 10 October update bug before they where able to fix it or if it's simply because my hard drive's time is up. To be fair, I think it's about 4 or 5 years old. And my bad for not making a habit of doing back-ups.

I was so super stressed last night trying to retrieve everything and didn't get any work done.  Fortunately, the hard drive still powered on this morning and I got my Patreon and client files back.

It's now noon and I'm still trying to retrieve and back-up 200+ GB worth of files including my porn "references". Hopefully, I can still get them  back and get some work done tonight.

I'll get a replacement hard drive this week and make sure I get into the habit of backing my stuff up.

Wouldn't want to go through that stress again, dammit!

Close call! You're the second creator to have a hard drive fail in a month. Something's up!

I read articles about the recent Windows 10 update having some bug that deletes some user's data. And some people got affected by it but apparently, Microsoft claims that it's fixed now. My Windows 10 updated itself yesterday but I can't be sure if that's what caused it or if it's purely coincidental. My hard drive really is old and I should have replaced it last year. Either way, I learned a lesson the REALLY hard way.

Was a physical problem, the 1809 bug does not affect hardware, it only erased thing at the logical level if you did a documents folder redirect. Anyway, if you need to automate things a bit, just ask me, I use Veeam Endpoint Backup (it's free for personal use :) ) and I just have to plug my HDD in my computer to start the backup One important thing : DO NOT WRITE ON THE DISK WHERE YOU LOST FILES UNTIL YOU RESTORED EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO GET BACK

That's the thing that confused me. I moved a few folders around yesterday too so I was trying to determine which really caused the issue. And yeah, it's most likely the drive. Good thing I got all the important stuff back. The drive still works from time to time but fails to read most times so I would have to let it go now. It was an external drive and it came with Seagate's back-up software but I just didn't bother setting it up all this time. Probably because I didn't have too many important stuff on there before. I'm definitely going to automate when I get my new drive. Yeah, I didn't write on the disk when the issue occured. Mainly because it wasn't allowing me to either. It started giving me I/O errors when saving stuff right before it stopped working.
