If I'm not mistaken the whole thing about the marrying family was about how Ateez are called the unwanted sons-in-law kinda thing, people say it because of their fierce looks they aren't as liked by the girlfriend's parents as Yunho or Yeosang who look more gentle and puppy-like (they have talked about it in other shows, especially San, Wooyoung, Seonghwa and Mingi are called the unwanted son-in-law by their looks)

‘Free-pass’ is just slang for someone who has soft/gentle visuals (like Yunho Jongho and Yeosang), therefore, would get approval of parents. Opposite (free-reject) would be someone with sharp visuals (like San and Mingi), where parents would be wary of letting their daughter marry because they look ‘scary’. San has mentioned that he doesn’t like being called a free-reject but people still do anyway, I guess its just Korea’s obsession with visuals and associating it with everything possible.
