I absolutely love this performance and i think it was scored much lower than it deserved. Especially for this being one of the first times they tried to truly PROVE their vocal ability, and this is what they came out with?! I understood the story when it was happening, and i obviously cant confirm this at all, but i suspect a part of why their scores were so low is because south korea has a very strong catholic presence, and this whole performance they "sided" with the devil. It wouldn't surprise me if they lost some points for not being appropriate role models the way idols are "supposed to be" you know? I have no idea if you have since learnt this bit of information, but the rapping that changbin did at the end while Seungmin and Han were harmonising and Chan was popping off with vocal adlibs in the back, is actually TWO rappers parts in the original song. So not only did they show off with the vocals, but changbin did the part of two rappers. I think the whole performance was amazing (but i agree that ateez, btob and skz are top 3 in whatever order you put them)

I didn't know that Changbin did the job two rappers, no. Looking back, I can't say that I'm surprised. Him and Han can both rap super fast. Just amazing.

Hi! Kingdom was recorded and aired in the spring of 2021, so it isn’t even a year old yet. I remember watching this episode live as it aired with no subtitles haha. It was a very difficult time, because Hyunjin’s hiatus was still very fresh so this meaningful performance was very very important for us stays at the time. Everyone couldn’t help but compare the “child” to Hyunjin, and how Stray Kids were reassuring us that no matter what, they will protect him and us from harm. If you look closely, you can see the 8th ring that the members made is being worn by the statue. This is what made us conclude that he represented Hyunjin. You said at the end of the video that you will finish the episode “tomorrow morning” so I’m hoping you’ve already finished it and know the results. If not, I’ll try to remain vague just in case. But I remember the teaser for this episode enraged Stays because MNET used a vulnerable moment from I.N. I remember my anxiety was through the roof watching this episode having seen the teaser. MNET took advantage of this vulnerable moment of I.N as clickbait and I’m still not over it. Rewatching this episode is making me angry at MNET all over again. Anyways, I understand what you mean about how you weren’t as surprised by their vocal abilities. They are just so cool lol But I do think watching it live as it aired and experiencing the pain and stress the kids were going through definitely impacted my viewing experience. Looking forward to you watching episode 6!! It is a stress free episode thank goodness.

Thank you for the comment! I hadn't seen the ring on the statues finger. That must have meant so much to Hyunjin as well when he was watching. He knows these guys have his back. Yes, I've seen all of the episode by now. I'm guessing it's I.N and the high note difficulties you're referring to. That was difficult to see, yeah.

This is way late, but -- when I'm watching / listening to covers and remakes, I like to go experience the original content, just to see how things have been changed. It can be fun, because I get to better appreciate when the new artist has clever homages or references to the original work. Anyway -- I don't know technical music terms, but in my opinion Stray Kids kept quite a lot of BTOB's original song. I was very surprised. Without giving spoilers, I'd say they only changed or just tweaked things here and there. The original is just as intense, just -- smoother, I guess. I have to add: I think the original song's mv is way more intense than the kingdom stage version. I think that because it's realistic, whereas Stray Kids added so much symbolism and fantasy, which was really cool to watch, and their vocals really brought the emotion to the song. The mv portrays tragedy happening right now, somewhere in the world, and honestly was such a gut punch for me. Here's the mv link, if anyone's interested. Worth a watch. https://youtu.be/__BFUf_nJl0 And yeah, pizza takes precedence :)

Pizza is important. Thank you for the link! I'll definitely take a look.

First off: your face when I.N. said it was his first time using a hammer. LMAO that was too funny. Secondly: my cat noticed your cat lying there in the corner of my screen and decided to lie next to it. And didn't move away from her spot until just now when it finished. And then the rest...did you notice there were 8 rings instead of 7? They made a ring for Hyunjin as well. And that ring was on the the statue of the little boy. I've got all sorts of feelings about this performance. I mean, it's the first Kingdom one I heard, way before I actually saw the show. Before I even realised this was when Hyunjin wasn't there and why. The very first time I watched it I got goosebumps and actually had tears. It just hit me hard. And I didn't really know why because I didn't have subtitles, but it just hit me hard. Then the subtitles and the images explained more why I felt that way. And then I heard all that about the ring, about Hyunjin, saw the show and heard their words (especially something Seungmin says in Kingdom week, which I hope you'll react to at some point, mostly because it's awesome and so funny too), well, it causes even more emotions. But I had those emotions the very first time I heard this. I love a song that draws out a strong reaction, strong emotion. And the whole idea that this is about sacrifice and what Seungmin says in Kingdom week about the deeper meaning being that they cherish the other members so much that they would do anything, including sacrificing themselves for the other....in relation to what we know about what they and Hyunjin were going through...well....what a song. But maybe a bit too much to bring onto the stage with them? It must have been so so hard. But what an amazing job they did.

Katja van den Berg

I forgot to add: in the end of the song, where Han and Seungmin combine with Changbin rapping, the very high vocalisations in the background are from Chan. So it's actually the four of them.

K-pop Auntie

So you're saying Race has a new girlfriend? He really racks them up. This is an emotionally evocative song, and the guys do a great job drawing that out. I hadn't noticed the 8 rings either, but then y'all commented about it and it made it that much more meaningful. I'm sure Hyunjin had some emotion of his own during this one.
