One of my favorite YouTube channels is The Behavioral Arts. The host Spidey is very educated and has been in the field for many years. I've learned so much from him so it's always really funny to hear people talk about body language. There are many misconceptions about body language, specifically deception. Gaon isn't totally wrong when he says people lick their lips, swallow, touch their ears. But, like you said, you have to establish a baseline. You also have to look for CLUSTERS. There is no single indication of deception. For example, someone may be generally still while speaking but suddenly their blink rate goes up, their eyelids flutter, they self groom, they rub their face, they stutter over words, their hands wring together, and now you know to ask further questions because they may be being deceitful. All of that to say, body language is a fascinating field and I wish it was taught correctly more or didn't have so many misconceptions. How many times have you heard that liars break eye contact? Or shake their head no while saying yes? These are the two most common "examples" given when trying to say someone is lying. But they're just wrong! Anyway, enough of that haha.

Agreed. One of the negatives of so much information available at our fingertips is that a little bit of information doesn't give the full picture... but makes people think they are making informed decisions after reading the first two paragraphs of one article they found.
