You know what's interesting about Kimimaro's attachment to Orochimaru is that it's similar to people who return to abusive relationships or toxic friendships because they can't stand the idea of being alone. Orochimaru never really cared about anyone who he kept around. He used them, and in doing so, dehumanized them even if that wasn't what the other side of the coin believed. The other side of the coin, which is Kimimaro in this episode, was actually convinced that Orochimaru understood him better than anyone. But just like people who keep returning to abusive relationships/friendships, neither such people nor Kimimaro know any better. In fact, it's all they know and it's why they keep returning to it.
