We attempt to grapple with the job losses at Polygon and Giant Bomb (and dig into some of our own time at GB) this week, before diving into the ARC Raiders tech test, the end of Lost Records, Vinny's deepening love of Hollow Knight, the increasing absurdity of Skin Deep, the GTA 6 delay and new trailer, increasing Xbox prices, Gears on PlayStation, and some housekeeping notes for the next few weeks of Nextlander (yes, Brad's going pro in Fortnite).

It was good to hear Jeff's take on his last few years, really looking forward to this discussion. Oddly enough, hearing some of his behind the scenes stories gave me a sense of closure in some ways, for a site that was my daily destination for years since day zero. Like, clearly this is why they had to leave, why the divorce was necessary.

GTA 4 was much more serious then any previous GTA and much more then V or even 4's DLC campaigns. It did toe the line with still being goofy and over the top and having that crazy social satire, but Nico's story itself was MUUUUCH darker then any other GTA game, especially the endings.

“I’m worth it” is the single best response to a corporate email ever

As someone who enjoy the GB the content. I makes me a little sad it was made under those constraints. But I am glade to hear how proud they are of it as a whole.

Stephen Beattie

Your memories of behind the scenes at GB brings a lot of stuff into perspective. I was so bummed the day the three of you announced you were leaving. I was absolutely elated when Nextlander appeared.

Wendell Williston

Beautiful and tragic stories. Nextlander forever! ♥️♥️

Nathan

This^

So much respect for the old guard giving the new guard the props, I am sad for this situation and i know it hits home for the originals. Nextlander thank you for being you

Steve Lampron

Love the behind the scenes. Glad you guys have battled and are now doing well on your own.

Incredibleplum

I am a person who never really interacted or knows what Giant Bomb is/was. I basically found nextlander by googling and then another podcast mentioned it was a good show. I started listening a couple years ago and have never looked back. You guys do great work and are an bright spot in my week.

UltimAXE

Same. And, frankly, it's also sad to hear that it was never really profitable because a ton of awesome people touched Giant Bomb over the years and they all deserved success.

Juan C. Rodriguez

What I’ve learned from watching and listening to artists and workers in a corporate framework is that you guys basically got exploited and abused to appease a dragon that will never be satisfied with its hoard.

Thank you for sharing so many memories around Giant Bomb and your experiences there. I was lucky enough to see the site thriving, the beast cast becoming an incredible second podcast, etc. Grateful to be able to support again.

Ryan Montgomery

The stories you shared of corporate challenges resonates so much with me, I was on a walk with my dog listening and lost and thought until I realized I was tugging my poor dog along because I started walking so fast without realizing it. The struggle is real for sure, thank you for what you do

Dunno if you read these comments, but I agree with Vinny, you have what it takes to be a great juror. Having served on a panel for a pretty serious case before, it’s a privilege and a serious responsibility to hold someone’s future in your hands and interpret the law as it was written. Final deliberations on my panel stretched till about 10:30pm because everyone on my panel understood the gravity of our verdict and recommended sentencing and we fought hard to understand the various viewpoints. I would like to think the defendant that was part of our case used the opportunity we provided him to have a turning point in his life. We all left that courtroom confident that we did the right thing. Best of luck to you Brad, you got this!

Create the same shows, just +20% more, but also forget about ever seeing 20% more compensation year after year. The selfishness of the corporate structure is just maddening. So glad y'all are still doing well, I'll be here until the end.

Rikard Gustafsson

Monday monday monday... Love you guys. Gonna be a patreon as long you do this.

Alex Hedlund

Thank you for a really in-depth podcast this week with all the Giant Bomb News going on. I appreciate you guys going into more of the details of some of the rough patches with GB. Just thank you for your vulnerability & openness with this stuff, and I hope you guys are in much better place then where you were few years ago.

Jason Wineinger

The day you guys announced you were leaving Giant Bomb devastated me, but the fond memories I have from watching you goofballs all together in the whiskey media offices and GB East, etc. are irreplaceable, it was a great ride.

jason

Lots of random things I wanna say and I’m in the back of an Uber rn: First, we all know Giant Bomb was lightning in a bottle. We love you guys. Second, I hope you and Jeff are on friendly terms, not just to see you all on screen together but for yourselves. Also, how crazy would it be if ya decided to build another bomb?! You all know how to make it independently. How amazing would that be? Also, you guys are the internet’s version of the Beatles breaking up. We’re supporting you all forever. GB is forever.

Alex

Incredible podcast this week guys, thank you for sharing all your experiences!

Alexander

I still remember where I was at and what I was doing when Vinny, Brad and Alex announced they were leaving Giant Bomb. It really shook me.

BlueBomber

Had lost track of you guys after Beastcast. Thank you for this excellent episode, instant Patreon subscriber. I'm so glad my money can go straight to you. If possible please bring Abby back as you grow.

Jesper Carming

Hey, not sure if you guys read these comments but ill leave this here anyways. After having listened to the first bit of the podcast I just wanted to leave a comment saying how much I appreciate all the shit you guys went through to keep making content through all the rough times behind the scenes. Sorry you had to go through all that. I've followed you guys since the inception of Giant Bomb and I'm incredibly grateful for the sheer amount of joy and laughs your work has brought me through the years. So thanks, and I hope I get to keep listening to/watching you make fun stuff for many more years to come.

Sepultura has no more founding members. I always make the joke that it's not a band but a franchise.

Robert Forster

I am really sad to hear about GiantBomb.

William Deming

Has to be said that I legitmately cannot imagine my life without something like you guys and everyone at Giantbomb who made such an amazing thing over the years as apart of it. Genuinely love everything you guys have done and will continue to do no matter what it is!

Scott Carr

The iceberg is so true. I also like the duck picture (legs furiously kicking underneath but serene looking on top). I'm glad to know you all are in a better spot now than five years ago. Thank you for standing up for yourselves and pushing back against the eternal growth mentality. Cheers, fellas!

Tonytheswordsman

Nothing but love for you 3 Always been a highlight of my week to hear you all talk about games for years !
