re: animation software: for specialized tools: Toonboom's tools ( https://www.toonboom.com/) and Moho (https://moho.lostmarble.com/ and used to be closely aligned with Clip Studio Pro i think? ) were the two big program suites I found when I was looking into this question a few years back. There was also TVPaint (https://tvpaint.com/en) and probably more. Toonboom seemed, as far as I can tell, to be the king of the mountain ala a Maya or photoshop; I ended up going with Moho just from a price to feature point but that was also 5-6 years ago now. of course, a lot of other programs have some support for animation as well - photoshop, krita, and blender all can be used for 2d animation too for example, and I've seen a lot of love for blender's 2d (and 3d) animation stuff that's new in recent versions

If you google search "File:Gamescom 2009 - The Beatles Rockband (5130).jpg" I think you'll see the stage Alex is talking about. Wow is about all I can say lol.

I work in broadcast engineering (which is synonymous with live production engineering) and it's awesome most of the time. You get to work on so many different problems, it's really great. Edit: Telestream Vantage is the kind of transcoding software in common use at streaming companies. I recommend FileFlows instead (it's free and uses ffmpeg).
