Our fourth annual Halloween season of the Watchcast has begun! We're kicking off our month of personal horror picks with Alex's choice, the 1978 adaptation of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a deft combo of alien horror and '70s paranoia thriller that features killer mustaches, the youngest Jeff Goldblum you've ever seen, and a very weird dog.

This is the second time I watched this movie and I seemed to forget 1) how good these effects are 2) how much blank people staring there is and 3) that Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams are NOT father-daughter cause that's what their chemistry feels like for most of the movie until it REALLY doesn't.

Lmao at Alex's subtle foreshadowing about Final Destination at the end. Glad the guys enjoyed the movie. Nimoy is a style icon. All the performances are natural and fantastic.

This information is on IMDB, so take it as you wish. Apparently, Robert Duvall worked on one of the director's previous films, and agreed to do the cameo for free. And yes, he is meant to be foreshadowing.

For anyone else who was wondering what the end of the Camel Corps joke was, this is from a movie forum. Director Philip Kaufman explained the joke on the DVD commentary: "The English Camel Corp are trapped in the Sahara Desert. They've been surrounded by Rommel for forty days and have run out of food. The Captain makes an announcement to the men: 'Men, I have some good news for you and some bad news for you. The bad news is, we have nothing left to eat but camel poop. The good news is, there's plenty of it.'

One of my favorite films of all time. Good pick Alex! Also, the 90s Abel Ferrera movie starts out horribly with a studio mandated VO that almost kills the film but it gets much better as it goes along and has a creepy ass speech from Meg Tilly that is so good its worth watching just for that one scene.

Beautiful film. One of my favorite horror movies of all time. It's just so watchable and beautifully filmed with its 70's San Francisco setting. Donald Sutherland is excellent as always and somehow underappreciated in my opinion. Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright are so good in it too. Such great horror actors. This is a movie I show people who aren't into horror.
