Welcome back Brad! Good luck with recovery

Man, of my 5 hospital visits, I had to pay every single dime my insurance didn’t cover, which has always been at least ~$2000. I had two go to collections. One was paid for, but apparently either United Health or the hospital had a accounting oopsie and I owed ~$1.12 more. The bill came four months after I paid the intial bill, and about nine months after my hospital visit, and I was deployed (traditional Air National Guardsman) and moved out of that apartment by the time it arrived. When I got back I had all sorts of letters and calls about legal action for what was now $70 in bills and fees. That took about four full days to clear. The other was a bill for $800 after I was rear ended in Indiana, and my post office in Texas failed to deliver my mail for a month. Not helping matter is that I already paid the hospital bill ($1200) and the doctor bill (also $1200) and wasn’t aware there was a separate bill for the xray. United Health being United Health dragged this out for six months before any bills were sent to me. Having mostly forgotten about it, it was a nasty suprise to get a letter from a legal office representing a collection agency the hospital passed the account to about it. Luckily they accepted just what was owed for the bill with no additional fees. Anyways, the US medical system is a F’ing nightmare.

Glad to hear your healing well Brad! Long story, but second degree burns on my epiglottitis had me in an ambulance last week on the way to the emergency room (for the second time), and my brain was more worried about how much the damn ambulance would cost me than the fact that I almost died like twenty minutes before. Thankfully good insurance, so I'm not on the hook for a ton but it's still wild we live somewhere where the mental math for some people is "Do I really need to go, sure I'm struggling to breath but this could be really expensive." Also if you're in the Poughkeepsie area, go to Mid Hudson Medical and not Vassar for your emergencies. I am all good now.
