Once upon a time we thought there wouldn't be many games out in October. Anyway, this week we get into Hellraiser: Revival, Ratatan, Silver Pines, and more Galactic Racer, Control Resonant, and End of Abyss. Also, Epic goes all-in on its AI-generated Marvel/Star Wars game, Trials dev RedLynx is no more, GTA VI might come to PC sooner than later, Wing Commander III is having a moment over 30 years in the making, and plenty of other stuff!

I hope Wing Commander IV gets the same treatment at some point. It wasn't nearly as successful as III, seeing how it still stuck to the FMV thing far beyond the point when anyone still wanted that in their games. But it's kind of better than WCIII in every way, including a more interesting story and actual sets rather than full greenscreen. That game is criminally overlooked.

You know, Nextlander turned into a hardcore Hellraiser channel so gradually, I didn't even notice.

Control Resonant's assist options make the game better for me, every time I get to one of those arbitrary walls out in the world I just turn on invincibility and one hit kills to breeze through the enemies till I can figure out where the hell I need to go Definitely turn them off vs bosses since those are worth doing normally (although I wish they had checkpoints halfway through some of those fights take a while)

How is fisting for save points not the title on this one???

On the Epic + AI stuff, I felt the need to come and comment just to clarify how things actually work in software engineering these days. I have 10 years of experience as a software engineer. I have not hand-written a line of code in probably 6 months, if not more. Why would I? I can understand the aversion to AI especially in art, but you're just out of touch with how software actually works these days if you think anyone is hand-writing code anymore. Tools like Claude Code are just so much faster and usually better, but at most companies we still gate code merges on human review to avoid AI slop, to varying degrees of success.
