Fuck yes! I've been looking forward to this. :D

Kind of amazing they made Kano Australian on the strength of this when he sounds like he's a cockney in the movie!

I'll say that in isolated audio here and having just seen wikipedia say he was trying a cockney accent, I can now hear it. But yeah, something about it always read as Australian. Also the part about Sona's actress being a late change does make sense. Of the three hero characters, I was noticing Cage gets two fights including the Garo boss fight and Liu Kang gets a bunch but Sona just gets the Kano fight and then she's captured and chained up.

picture it: it's 1995, I work in an arcade in a mall where you can smoke, and a crowd of smoking teens crowded around 2 mortal kombat 3 machines. Mortal Kombat fever was everywhere! My first girlfriend (who also works at the arcade and also smokes), wonders if we should go to the theater across the food court from the arcade, and see the MOrtal KObat movie. I tell her no, because the games are SO cool, there's no way the movie could live up. We break up and I never see the movie. Today, 2023: I FINALLY watch the movie because of this podcast and am thrilled to discover that I WAS RIGHT. 28 years later, I finally have vindication!!! Also how come nobody mentioned that Kano actually sounds like he's doing a Bob Hoskins impression.

WulfBane

Growing up he sounded Australian to my young USA ears. The isolated clips in the podcast here I heard the cockney and was specifically thinking to the Bob Hoskins' clip Alex played during the SMB movie episode.

I had my parents take me to this in the theater on a Wednesday after school, I loved it and they did not

The actor is Australian, but the games definitely leaned more toward "cockney geezer" as I think that helped sell the "hard man criminal" character.

If you're looking for weird places that Mortal Kombat theme song popping up, I was in Grand Ole Oprey land around Halloween and there was a trio of roller bladers dressed up as skeletons doing trick sequences. They would drop a boom box, play that MK song, do some stunts stuff, then leave once the song finished. That was in like 2002...
