Just had to drop a comment about Moonlight/Sunshine. I am able to stream HDR at 4K60 from my desktop to the Moonlight app on an Apple TV 4K hooked up to an LG C2. I can also do 1440p120 HDR to an M1 Macbook Pro, and it is actually looks incredible. Some caveats: wired ethernet only, wifi is very jittery (may be a Mac thing). Enable v-sync and frame pacing. I use 80mbps for 1440p120 and I think my Apple TV is set to 150mbps for some reason. I don't think I have ever updated Sunshine since I installed it months ago, it just works. Some downsides: can't stream Dolby Atmos (theater mode) to another room, HDR calibration needs care if you change displays a lot. Another silly one for fun: using a USB-C ethernet dongle and an M1 iPad Pro, you can also stream 120hz HDR to that. :)

Love the idea of a Labor Month of movies, but what movie was Alex talking about after "9 to 5"? Sounded like "ma-deh-wan"?

Ricky Bhullar

Brad, I hope you seriously consider QD OLED TVs from Samsung and Sony over the standard WOLED. I personally feel like it’s the superior tech. The colors in qd oled hit double the luminance of colors displayed on woled. The Samsung S95C and holy grail the Sony A95L. The Samsung has four hdmi 2.1 ports, 4k144, the Sony only has 2 but not an issue if you’re going to use a receiver.

Matewan, the John Sayles movie about the WV coal mine strikes in the 1920s, fantastic movie (and not just because I'm a WV history guy)

9 to 5 holds up really well, and it is fascinating time capsule of riiiiiiight before the Reagan era began. If you watch it with kids, be warned that even though its PG, the movie deals with sexual harassment and unwanted advancement, there’s some innuendo, casual pot smoking, and a couple f-words.

Christopher Sheaves

I thought so, but seeing as I grew up ~3 hours from there I've always pronounced it Mate-one. "The town was named after Matteawan (now called Beacon), a town in Dutchess County, Upstate New York. Local residents, however, changed the spelling and pronunciation." And unless Alex is a vampire: "Beacon was created in 1913 from Matteawan and Fishkill Landing." ;)

Thought we were here talking about Dolly Parton and how she's a national treasure, but-ah-yeah! Serious movies for serious times work too.

Christopher Sheaves

Oh, I missed the WV history thing. Is it because you're from there or just general interest in the mountain state?
