Chapter 329

Sophia decided to put a portal between the mainland and the small island to thank the demons living there for their hospitality. After she and the group left, Errol and Igis had a hearty chat about the obvious fact that they had just met a new overseer because the tiger, in their opinion, was impossibly bad at hiding her secret.

“Well, I’d say that meeting our first demons was a resounding success~.” Sophia happily clapped her hands as they were slowly sailing towards the mainland, not knowing that they had already somewhat figured out her secret.

“What do you mean?!” Ari instantly got loud. “That meeting was like the worst possible outcome out of everything that could’ve happened!” She was still upset about her match with Errol out of nowhere, and everything else that happened with her being in the center of things.

“I had a lot of fun!” Steph disagreed with her. “I really hope that the city the two told us about has a nice and big open area nearby so I can have a match with a lot more than five demons!”

“That’s the spirit!” Aura liked her plan. “I can’t wait to find an army keep and see you go at it!”

“Let’s go!” The dog-girl got even more motivated.

“Also, the worst possible outcome is a bit of an overreaction, isn’t it?” Maya smiled at the jaguar. “I could’ve imagined several individuals in this group to accidentally start a war between the beastfolk and the demons.” She most definitely didn’t glance at the sisters and the wolves while saying that.

“…” Ari paused for a second before eventually shaking her head. “No, I stand with what I said.” She really didn’t like that she ended up being the first to catch a demon's attention and was challenged to a match, even before Sophia.

“I love stubborn Ari~.” Steph was a fan of her behavior.

“Didn’t you say you want to adjust to the locals when it comes to common sense and stuff once we get to the demon continent to let loose more?" Chloe tilted her head while looking at the jaguar. “I’d argue that you perfectly matched the energy of the locals.”

“True!” Anna and Sophia had the same reaction.

“…” The jaguar didn’t appreciate the truth. “I wanted to ease into it, though! I need to prepare myself for things like that!”

"That's quitter talk, and I raised no quitter!" Steph stared right at her with a disapproving expression and a small shake of her head.

“I don’t remember you raising me.” She just matched her gaze.

“Stop fussing over small details!"

“Grr!”

“Ah, speaking of raising someone, how is it going with your parents?" Maya reminded the topic of something else and looked at the sisters while tilting her head. “Mine told me that they always enjoy their outing and showing them around, but they refuse to tell me how it’s going.”

“A good question.” Sophia shrugged. “Officially, the two are telling us the same, how they haven't decided yet and want to see more first."

“Officially?” The cat-girl tilted her head.

"We recently caught yours and our parents chatting about animal features." Steph gave her a thumbs-up. “Mom and dad were very enthusiastic about the topic, too~.”

“Ahh, that sounds promising!”

“By the way, it’s a little late at this point, but wouldn’t it make more sense for your parents to become demons instead?” Chloe thought about the situation for a moment. “I mean, they can become whoever they want, but we saw some demons on the island that looked indistinguishable from humans at first glance. The only immediate difference was that they’re much stronger, vastly so than the beastfolk, too. I’m going to assume that the same will be true for your parents once you finish boosting them.” She glanced at Sophia towards the end.

“Don’t you think our family tree is complicated enough already?” The blonde gestured at Steph while looking back at her. “Okay, real talk, if that’s what they’d want, I’d make it possible and take on the king and the others when there are questions, but it would make things super complicated. I stand with the beastfolk, and I’m a part of them. So, my home is their continent. If our parents live there, too, as demons, they probably will gather way too much attention to live a peaceful life. I mean, they could live on the demon continent because we’re probably going to be here a lot, but it would still be weird for various reasons.”

“Fair enough.” The fox-girl could follow her reasoning.

“Also, our parents also said that part of the reason why they’re even thinking about coming here to this world is because they want to feel close to us.” Steph paused for a second. “I don’t think being different species would satisfy this urge. I am a dog, and while I don't need them to become a dog, just like Sophia, I’m a member of the beastfolk, not a demon.”

“Even more valid points.” Chloe nodded a couple of times.

“Also, I want to see my parents with cute animal ears and fluffy tails." Steph’s eyes suddenly started sparkling.

“And Sari, too!” Sophia felt the same.

“Ahh.” Everyone had the same reaction while looking at the sisters.

“Hey!” The two didn’t appreciate that.

"On behalf of father, I thank you for your selfishness.” Anna smiled at Sophia. “I honestly think father would die if you told him that you’re part demon. Even more so if you were to reveal the whole different world things, which is a completely different can of worms.”

“WE’RE NOT SELFISH!” Sophia and Steph got loud.

“…” They just stared at the duo.

“Okay, not just selfish!” The sisters corrected themselves before Sophia continued. “I was serious about the other stuff I said! I would prefer if they join the beastfolk, but if they prefer to be demons instead or maybe even regular humans, I’ll make it happen and work.”

“Exactly!” Steph reacted with a vigorous nod. “Fluffy parents and baby sister would be amazing, but absolutely no requirement. Mom and dad being demons would be super cool, too!”

“Can demons and the beastfolk even have children together?” Chloe got a little interested in the topic. “Normally, it doesn’t work between different species, does it?”

“I’ve never heard about it.” Anna shrugged. “Then again, it’s been forever since we last saw demons on our continent, so it might've just lost information.”

“I literally couldn’t care less about the reproductive functions of demons or the beastfolk, so don’t even ask.” Fen shook his head.

“I never thought about it, either.” Aura had a similar reaction. “Or paid attention to it.”

“Aren’t you the daughter of an overseer and a member of the beastfolk? Or whatever Fey’s supposed to be?” Steph tilted her head while looking at her.

“Hah.” The fox-girl looked confused for a moment. “Wait, you’re right! Mira, extra tails aside, looks like a regular member of the fox beastfolk, but she actually isn’t! Wait, is she? Is being an overseer a title, or does it make you a different species?” She then faced Sophia with a questioning expression.

“Don’t look at me like that!” She instantly shook her head. “I have no idea!”

“I see…”

“Also, two women normally also don’t work when it comes to having children, but here we are!” The blonde happily clapped her hands. “If magic can take care of that, why would it not be able to let two different species with mostly the same anatomy have children together?”

“Mhm, you know what, fair enough.” Chloe couldn’t argue against that. “Magic is amazing!”

“It sure is!” The sisters felt the same.

“Now I wonder if we’re going to see some interspecies hybrids on the continent!” The pink fox got excited over the topic.

“Hmm…” Hearing those words, Sophia turned to Fen. “I don’t quite remember anymore, but didn’t you tell me that you knew a demon that accidentally turned themselves into a hybrid?”

“Uhh…” He thought about it for a moment. “Right! Yeah, one fellah I knew thought it would be fun to give himself some bird extras, which then ended up becoming permanent features because he couldn’t get rid of them anymore afterward. Just like a certain blonde tiger and her violet dog sister.”

“The violet dog never wanted to get rid of her dog features, so please don’t include me in your explanation!” Steph just stared at him while shaking her head. “She never even thought about it! I’m team canine supremacy!”

“And that’s why you’re my favorite sister.”

“Hey!” Sophia didn’t like the sound of that.

“Hehe.” Steph did, though. “Anyway, hybrids between species sound interesting! Wait! Fluffy ears with a sleek, black demon-like tail with the pointy tip would be sooo cool! It’s not nearly as great as a big fluffy pillow, err… tail, but still super cool!”

“Good save.” Chloe lightly eyed her while her big, fluffy tail twitched a few times.

“No demon could ever hold a candle to my pink goddess!” The dog-girl vigorously shook her head. “I just think it would look cool~.”

“It probably would, yes.” She agreed with her.

“Only one way to find out~.” Sophia clapped her hands. “That definitely sounds interesting, but I’m even more curious about the biomes they were talking about! If each of them really is that distinct and they house different types of dragons, there has to be a high chance that the elder dragons have their lair somewhere in there, too, right?” She looked towards Aura at the end.

“I can confirm that the biomes change hard all of a sudden.” The wolf reacted with a small nod. “Most came with their own flavor of dragon, too. I've never found an elder dragon, though. In fact, I didn't even know they existed until Mira told me about them when she met with Kel. Although, the continent is massive, and my detection magic only started growing to my current level after I returned to the beastfolk, so it’s entirely possible that I just missed them. Not to mention that after seeing what Cirrus did, it’s entirely possible they use some sort of magic to camouflage themselves, making it even harder to find them.”

“I’ll definitely find them~.” The blonde was determined about her goal.

The group continued to chat about what they wanted to find, explore, and meet on the continent as they slowly sailed closer to it on their boat for the rest of the day.
