Slowing down, for the first time in 10 years, I've burnt out... (Patreon)
Content
Over 10 years at this point I've been doing this gig as a job, and I've burnt out finally. I never understood what it felt like until now and man, it sucks.
Forcing myself to draw for people a bunch is not very enjoyable. Especially when it's also ideas I don't really wanna draw half the time. But I do it to fulfill what you have paid for, for me to do.
I will still be doing the requests but im not doing stupidly large ideas, with multiple characters or scenes, you are asking a lot. Im going to do more singular ideas, and if I wanna add a pannel or so, it will be of my own decision. I would have most likely done more requests than 2 a week, but most of the ideas are comics and I'm not drawing multiple comics a week in between normal commission work and ych work. It just piles up too much...
If you want to unsubscribe from the nasty tier because of that, that's up to you. But I will focus on the more singular themed ideas of 1 or 2 characters at most in an illustration.
Ive experimented a lot over 7+ years on how to make Patreon work, but it seems to always get stuck here. Partially because of shadowbans on a lot of my social media sites, and partially because I just don't think my work is that good to pledge to according to no real growth. It gets pretty draining. I was uploading 5-7 uploads a week at one point and I STILL had people unsubbing saying, it wasn't worth it. Crazy.
So with all of this compiling over time im just tired... Im really tired...I do plan to retire at some point in the next year or so. I want to move on from doing any of this stuff for patreon and I want it in time to just be a place where if people wanna throw me 5 bucks a month to show support they can. But that time is still a little ways off.
Also yes, you heard that right, I am going to be retiring from this job in the next year or so. I am going to drop my uploads and artwork by like 90 percent and maybe do 1 pic a week. No more of this shit ton of ych commissions or normal commissions. I started this when I was 22, now im 32. Im blessed to have been able to afford a home for myself already at this age, something none of my real friends have, its been crazy how much this job took off. Thanks to all the commissioned and pledged support. But I also gave up my 20's for it. I didn't really do anything fun in that time or truly socialize, it was very mentally damaging. I worked 7 days a week for basically 10 years. Even when I went on holiday, I had a laptop and tablet where I would work at least 3/4 hours a day, on my fucking holiday. The most time I've had off is maybe 5 days. I've never gone more than that without drawing and that is rare. Even Christmas and newyears, even my birthday im still working most of the day.
So I think me going 10 years at this rate without a burnout is pretty good. But I think that time and my age doing this, is catching up with me. So I hope you can forgive me for wanting to slow down a little, even if its only for a short while.
Thanks for reading,
