Hello! Here's your first Playlist video for 2019

A few changes. I'm talking about any and all games I played - so that's indie stuff, retro games, and new releases. And also I tried doing it without a script - but it's a bit meandering so I might stick to a prewritten script in the future!

Cheers

Great list Mark, I like that you didn't have a script. It's a nice contrast to your polished videos since these aren't posted on YT. Like you're just having a chat. I recently went back to the first Metal Gear and in my mind hiding bodies and tranq guns have always been in there. Was fun seeing that they did make those improvements from 1 to 2, but that first one is just so much fun.

Yeah I did not mind the unwritten script, but I don't think I would mind either way regardless. But this was a cool vid! :D

Absolutely agree with everything you said about Below. It's a beautiful game, and really gives you that sense of wonder and mystery on a level that very very few games manage, but it's definitely held back by all the punishing roguelike mechanics. You can't stop to take in these incredible sights because you know your hunger, warmth, or thirst meter is slowly ticking down and you have to just move on. Death isn't just a setback, it can be really really punishing, especially the further you get. If you die, you know that you'll have to spend at least half an hour farming for food and weapons in places that you've been dozens of times already, and that really kills the mood for me. It seems this opinion is quite a common one, that people want to stop and enjoy this game, but the mechanics simply don't allow you to, and that's why I see so many people giving up on it. Like you said, it's a real shame.

I wouldn‘t have thought so, but I think you should use a script again in the future. It‘s just more focused. Still good to hear you talking about very different games in a video. I strongly disagree on RiME having no meaning though. I think it is just as good as Journey or SotC and had a strong impact on me. I also really liked the level design of the sewers in the RE2 Remake with collecting the chess pieces and the level coming full circle. That was really clever. But it did not reach the atmosphere of the police station.

Thank you for the video! I certainly have a few new games on my list that I kinda heard about but wasn't as aware yet. It seems like I am not the only one who might remark on your unscripted video. I started not liking it, yes it was less focused and it seemed like you didn't exactly know what you wanted to say. But I left it feeling more personally invested, writing more to Mark than GMTK. And that is nice for a change.

+1 for the occasional unscripted playlist vid!

I do like the casualness of the unscripted video, but at times it distracted from what you wanted to say, with all of the pauses and the uhs and other fillers in our normal speech that aren't in a scripted video. That said, I liked the side comments, such as the "Crazy, I know" when talking about you not having had played MGS. I think a more relaxed script could work. Also, I'm glad you mentioned Sly Cooper - it was one of my favorite game series as a kid! Sly 2 is a large improvement over the first game, and makes improvements to the "lack of focus" you mentioned.

I prefer the Playlist videos in which you use a script.

As a fan of slay the spire, I'll say it does work decently on a tablet, so if you have a windows table or otherwise touch enabled windows device give it a shot. "Decently" of course meaning, not as smoothly as hearthstone does but still well enough that you can play easily.

It might be worth checking out Sly 2, it changes things up from the first game, polishes it a lot and is overall a much better and more polished version of the first game.

I have some feedback about the way you list platforms for PC games: when you talk about Slay the Spire you say that it's available for "PC" "Mac" and "Linux" but I don't understand why you list Windows as PC? This is something that's bothered about your videos for a while and it's one of those minor things but I feel like if you list Linux you should put "Windows" not PC because it's factually incorrect. I kinda appreciated the unscripted tone to be honest but I can appreciate if you want to retain a tightness to your talking

I liked this longer meandering chat style! I'm glad someone else has finally noted all these Journey/ICO wannabes that lazily attempt a vague vibe of "ooo look it's pretty and deep and meaningful probably ooo". Feel like there's so many these days. I'm also loving Resi 2. Onto my first Claire run after Leon. The sound design sure is wonderful. I imagine I wouldn't be nearly as constantly freaked out if I were playing on mute. Look forward to your next videos mate!
