Hello! Last week I asked you to send me the games you made for the GMTK Game Jam, and offered to play them. I expected to receive a few. A small handful. A little pile.

By the time the deadline was up, I had received 100 games! Eek.

But! Here we are. I played almost all of them and shared my thoughts, feelings, and feedback.

Please take the feedback as intended: just my honest thoughts while playing the games for the first time. I'm also one man with specific tastes, so not every type of game is going to tickle my fancy.

I skipped a few games. A Gamble with Death is a very attractive game with a cool premise, but the video was just me reading lots of text aloud and it didn't make for fun footage. Dice & Chess and Super Tabletop Toss Arena are multiplayer only, and I was sadly playing these games alone.

DIEmunition made the top 20, so you've had enough Mark love. El Dieritch didn’t work. And Rubiks Dice, really unfair soccer, and Berb Hike were played on stream.

The rest, I played!

In video one, I played...

Thank you for the time you took to review all these games, your feedback is important to us. Sorry you encountered a bug during your playthrough 🥲

Jessica So

thanks so much mark!! can't wait for next year!

Sara

Thank you! I realize many problems in my game.

I had actually recommended you play a game that I didn't make (Abyss Diver) - definitely still recommend you play it. The dev made it on their own (at 17), and it won best presentation in the whole jam. :)

I commented this on the video as well, but thanks for checking out or game D-Fore! We had a lot of issues actually implementing some of the effects we wanted to do. We tried utilizing Physics materials to make the effects of the different world states apparent, but ultimately found that the effects they had weren't as strong as we'd liked. We hadn't really considered the camera issues, and I sort of doubt we could have gotten backface culling within the jam period, but it also goes to show the effects that kind of clean up and extra "feel" stuff can do to make a game more enjoyable.

Thanks for taking the time to play all these games! I am placing higher with each year passing, so I am aiming for the top 20 next year. :D

Roy Rosta

Thanks for playing and telling how you feel about the game, means a lot to me!

Joe Frangles

Thanks for playing all these games! The support you give this jam every year is absolutely unreal, and I'm looking forward to trying it again next year too. A quick note, as a dev for Super Tabletop Toss Arena: The game does actually have a single player mode. If you go into Arcade mode, select a character, and hit the confirmation button again, it should start up with just one player. If you do check it out sometime, the current version that's on the page is our updated post-jam version. I can see about digging up the version we finished for the jam if you'd like.

This is a pretty fantastic thing for you to do, and a great example of a cool benefit from subscribing to someone’s patreon.
