Hey Patrons!

For your bonus video this month, let's talk about my experiences doing video game consulting. Hopefully I won't end up in awful legal trouble for talking about this stuff!

Let's Talk About... Game Consulting

I did some programming work on the recent PC port of Sackboy, doing the initial task of getting it to work on Steam and Epic. Cool to hear you consulted on the PS5 version.

Thanks for this Mark! Really exciting to hear that you're getting to look behind 'closed doors' and potentially shape the future of gaming (for the better!!)

Since you said that your impact has been minor on the other projects, I wouldn’t worry too much about the one that got canceled. You got the experience and you got your money, that’s what matters.

Thanks for sharing Mark! This reminded me a lot of my first role in the games industry, which was as a "Game Design Analyst" at Xbox. I was essentially an in-house consultant for different projects, seeking answers to nebulous design problems by playing games and reviewing a lot of different sources. GMTK was a huge inspiration for how I approached my presentations and whitepapers, so thank you so much!

Thanks for this video Mark, very insightful. I use your videos very often while working, they always help me stay "focused" on what's the point of a feature, etc. and I know I'm not the only one that does that. So keep going, you're helping us a lot.

Finally got to watch this one, and very interesting to see the differences and similarities with my job. I'm a tabletop game designer, and similarly, I've been majorly working with consulting (as well as editing rulebooks, it all comes in the pack) since the pandemic. If at any moment you consider it could be interesting to make some content that touches tabletop game development, I'd be glad to help :)
