Does fan art suggestions satisfy you where I end up having a lot of creative freedom or would you rather get commissions (with a discount for being a patron) instead where you'd get to dictate more of your wishes?

I like 'em both, and you should have both as an option. I like your style so I don't see any problems to change it. But sure, having an option to get the exact drawing in MY flavours sound just as good, up to you.

I'm in agreement with XYNTA92's point, both sounds good and should be an option. But, alas, it's up to you what suits you better.
