You don't need to watch it or anything, but I remembered after watching this again how hype the Super Bowl trailer for season 2 was.. Honestly, I think you guys are going to like what happens next - one of the problems (and greatness) with season 1 is that there's something for everybody; and that isn't necessarily true as the show goes on, which is why it dropped a lot of people - but I think if you like certain things from a show you'll enjoy where it goes. It's funny how much the world of AI has changed since this season was made - back then some of the things discussed in the show weren't even really accessible to the likes of Google and Microsoft, now I run LLMs locally on my own systems. I don't have the resources to train an LLM from scratch: but I also don't need to, you can take a simple or complex general purpose LLM and feed it it's own character sheet (system prompt) and literally tell it how it will behave, in plain English, and it'll do that; because of the way that LLMs work they're extraordinarily powerful. It's actually a lot like how host characters are written in Westworld, in that normally it is done narratively. It's crazy how far we've got in such a small space of time, but not just that so much as how AI research in the real world has converged on how AI in the show works - or rather at least the most "exiting" branch of AI research, the kind that real people interact with on a daily basis. A lot of my own AI research is around using much simpler AI models to manage an AI's own memory and contextual data - not wholly unlike the hosts in the show. All this is totally accessible to the (albeit professional) hobbyist with fairly minimal resources, you can imagine what the big kids are doing with AI systems these days when they're building out entire data centres to play with and signing contracts to power them with nuclear reactors..
