In regards to your questions about why the school doesn't shut down and people aren't very effected by all the deaths. It is a fan theory that not only does the Hellmouth attract various evil things but it also suppresses the memory of people living in the area. So people either forget or quickly rationalize all these strange events and murders. I love this episode and the twist.

Great reaction, as usual, guys and I have two comments. You didn't react or comment on his reveal, so you either didn't recognize him or you were playing it cool. Principal Snyder is played by Armin Shimerman, who played Quark, the Ferengi bar and casino owner, for 7 seasons on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Now to the awkward part. Granted we barbarians who lived through the 1990's are an uncivilized lot who were totally comfortable with horrible murders taking place on TV shows. But now that you have commented several times this season about how unlikely it would be to have a school day continue uninterrupted after a grizzly slaying, can we just assume that for the future you have said it again and move on. One other thing we who lived through the 90's could do, distinguish fact from fiction, and appreciate the absurdity of the fiction. And believe me, Sunnydale High does not get any safer in the future.

Things are really ramping up. Great reaction. Love the predictions, and the discussion at the end. Good catch that the Slayer lore expanded to now include mention of a Slayer from the 30s. It's one thing to hear Giles lay out the broad mythology of the show. But hearing from someone who personally knew a Slayer from back in the day feels like it's a real thing. Makes the show feel more lived-in. Also, it's fun noticing on re-watch that Marc seems a little off in the moments he's peppered into the episode. For instance, he's really dismissive of Emily's death, just super focused on getting Giles to participate in his card trick. Looking back, Marc's actually the demon who murdered Emily and is trying to distract Giles with a lame failed card trick, so he won't be suspicious of him. Pretty cool. So, for me, the scariest part of the episode was not Syd or Marc or anything seemingly supernatural. But watching Principal Snyder's ears backlit in a dark wing of the stage still make me shudder. Easily the creepiest part of the episode, and in the running for one of the creepiest moments of the whole season.

None of us , except Eddie who makes appearances, have seen Star Trek! It's on the list, to be guided by Eddie.

Sounds great. Count me in for the first 5 series, Star Trek:TOS, Star Trek:NG, Star Trek: DS9, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. Not too sure about Star Trek: Picard though.

Soooo glad you guys are enjoying season 1 of Buffy, it gets a bad rep but it's honestly a great time and the show just gets better from here on out. The ending scene of this episode and the credits sequence are both legendary lol. Comedy is all about timing and the show is really great and smart with its comedic timing. I think when you guys talk about Cordelia not getting development so far, what we really got from her was more *characterization* -- more of her just kinda being herself. Like you said, it's nice to see some of the side characters get the chance to be on-screen, it gives more life to the show itself. Good catch on noticing that she isn't really as confident as she makes herself out to be.

"One other thing we who lived through the 90's could do, distinguish fact from fiction, and appreciate the absurdity of the fiction." -- I don't know if it's necessarily a 90s thing, but yes, I've definitely noticed that it's really popular nowadays for people to nitpick shows for leaning a bit into the absurd. It seems hyper-realism is really in lately. But yeah I watched this show as a teenager, I didn't even think that the school would've actually closed if it were real lol.

Mikey - Firefly was from 2002-2003.

So Mike hopes there are spiders next episode. Well he got some (I assume you guys are an episode or two ahead), hope he was happy. Although with BtVS, you sometimes get what you want but not the way you wanted it.

David Schmidt

I think he was commenting on the brief spider scene in the opening credits montage. He has mentioned that he noticed it before. But you are right, sometimes wishing on BtVS gives you something unexpected.
