Oooh great choice of programme to watch :)

BazMan01

The experts are real experts, however they do know the show is satire. However they don't have any idea what she is gonna say. So it's still real reactions to what she says lol

irreverend

The people she interviews are aware, but they don't know what she's going to ask and they're told to try to answer it seriously, as far as I'm aware. You know there were outtakes where they laughed :)

Jonathan Davies

Great choice!!!! Cunk is one of the best characters ever created 🙏

2026-09-23 20:00 The character Philomena Cunk started out in vox pops and a segment called "Moments of Wonder" on Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe/Newswipe/other variations. Netflix did a year-end version called Death to 2020, 34 years after the debut of the BBC sitcom Brush Strokes. The wipe shows are funny (although harsh - and they seem to be filmed in the black lodge) but you might have the same context issues you experience with mock the week and the big fat quiz. Also, Good Pick!

Btw Mandy the war of the roses between Yorkshire and Lancashire was part of the joke of Phoenix Nights when they had the cowboy stand off. That’s why it ended up in a massive brawl 😂

Jonathan Davies

The main writer Charlie Brooker is the man who also created Black Mirror

Dextrous (Lewis)

I loved this! I'd only seen clips before too. Can't wait for more!

Josh

I've been wanting to watch this for ages, but never got around to it. Thank you Mandy, this is going to be awesome 🤗 you certainly liked this one 😀

Jeffrey44

Diane Morgan (Cunk) wrote and starred in her own BBC sitcom. She played a character called Mandy, so you have that in common with her.

Spacedone

The show was created by Charlie Brooker, a comedy writer/actor who started a show called 'Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe in which he sarcastically dissected British TV shows. This spawned a similar shows called Weekly Wipe and News Wipe where it was more of the same but now taking the piss out of current events, tv and film. The character of Philomena Cunk first appeared as a 'random' member of the public that would appear on screen to talk absolute nonsense about one topic or another. Brooker went on to have major international success with the darkly satirical nightmare fuel that is 'Black Mirror' and then a few years brought Cunk back for this because Diane Morgan was just too good in the role. He also wrote a short series called 'Dead Set' about the British version of the Big Brother tv show being filmed during a zombie apocalypse.

Tee Tee

That was great 🤣 🤣🤣 I'd not seen a full episode before, and I love it when something unexpected makes you erupt with a spontaneous explosion of laughter, it's strangely satisfying .

Remi

Diane is also in afterlife another show I'd absolutely love to see your reaction too

Remi

Where are the feathers. I love you Mandy, finally someone who knows that t rex had feather's

Steven Bennett

I will be honest and say this isn't really my cup of tea... BUUUT!!! I watched all the way through because I enjoyed your reaction to literally everything she said. :D

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

I've just tuned into Mandy's art review channel. Hahaha She's not exaggerating on everything. Where she mentioned people avoided water and drank beer isn't necessarily wrong. The Vikings and the Brits after used to create mead from fermented honey and beers from barley. They were barely anywhere near the purity of todays beers, maybe 0.5% alcohol at best but farmers would drink it all day as it was sterile and contained good nutritional value. It's also true about gluten. Gluten is a modern discovery but we've always had intolerance. I read that it's estimated around 85% of the worlds population is gluten intolerant and around 60% (mostly asia) is lactose intolerant. I'm told westeners actually smell like milk to people in India etc because of how much we consume. Our ability to digest bread and milk is unique to the west. Even sugar didn't really exist here until around 400 years ago when we found it being grown in indonesia. Today's the day!!! Check your insta. Bought a plane lads. 😎

Hey! I don't know why you worry when you start a new show—you always make a good choice. I'm looking forward to watching it as soon as I can. As always, thank you truly, Mandy...🫡🙂🤗

Julian

This was a pleasant surprise. I’ve seen people react to clip compilations but not the full show. There are some history teachers/experts who react to it and add factual information, that’s quite fun. I heard that the people being interviewed are told to imagine they’re talking to a child. If you like Diane Morgan you should watch a show called Motherland. It’s very funny, I think you’ll like it.

I worry each time that it's going to be a James Corden programme. Americans love him!

John George

This was good fun. Next time they might cover Queenie from Blackadder.

2026-09-23 20:00 Great choice, great programme. If you think it's awesome, then you go for it, regardless. I knew when you paused you were going to say that woman looked like Steve :) I saw it before you said it so there must be something to it. Also if you want to remove the subtitles, you can do that by right-clicking in the video window of VLC and going to Subtitles / Disable (or none). Unless they are hard-coded which would be strange. Looking forward to the next ep!

It's crazy they got the Domesday book out for this! You asked the question, are the people she's interviewing in on the joke? I don't think they are, which if true, would make them getting that book out for a spoof history show even more hilarious. I wonder If anyone was fired for that?🤔 It might be interesting seeing what she has to say about Queen Elizabeth in the next episode now that you've become acquainted with her Blackadder incarnation. Fun stuff 👍🤗💜

Nice choice Mandy! I have never paid full attention to this show, though I've seen bits and pieces, and seen other reactors watch an episode here and there. It'll be fun to explore them fully with you for the first time. ☺️ Also, can you check your messages or email. I have a question.

[Insert name here]

Diane is great, she also is involved in the sitcom Motherland, hopefully you'll get round to this at some point.

Julian

I’m sure that woman is not the sole keeper of the Domesday book. It’s possible the organisation is told the full story and then they choose who to put in front of the camera. I suspect they know what’s going on, they just don’t know what Diane is going to say.

Stevus

Yeah, definitely a historic preservation group of some sort, but beyond that... 🤷‍♂️

Rob DW

Dead Set is massively underrated more people should watch it.

Rob DW

I know you laughed at it but Shin-kicking has been a popular sport in the UK since the 17th century with thousands going to watch it in the cotswolds, along with stuff like cornish wrestling. We have loads of weird traditions like Cheese Rolling (running down a steep hill after a wheel of cheese). If you ever come to the UK you should look for some of the more bizarre and weird traditions we have.

Kev

This show is a great choice. The writing is so good.

I just saw a patreon of another channel named Fisty Steve... any relation?

Mandy Cane Lane

OMG!! Haha. Fun stuff!! I have actually heard of the famous cheese rolling! 🤣🤣🤣

Mandy Cane Lane

Never heard of it Jason! Will check it out though 🤗✨️

Mandy Cane Lane

HAHAHHAA! Ok, but what part of that isn't true? 😅🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

It is odd that such an important book was available for this! Haha 🤣🤣

Mandy Cane Lane

Ahh cool, thank you! 🤗🤗 And LOL! With all the Stephen images you go through, of course you saw it too! 🤭💚

Mandy Cane Lane

Haha! Fun stuff! I can't wait. I actually enjoyed it much more than I thought I would!! 🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

Will check it out Julian! And sorry I can't add facts bit I can definitely critique the art 🤪🤣

[Insert name here]

I'm not surprised you've not heard of it as most reactors get suggested the same shows all the time, I can't tell you how many times I've watched reactors doing the Imbetweeners but there are tons of good shows that you'll likely never hear of such as Apple's 'Bad Sisters', BBC's 'Cuckoo', 'BBC's 'Ghosts' the original UK version, BBC's 'Mum', Channel 4's 'Home'. The last three I'd call comfort comedies like Car Share that have a heart and not just shock factor comedies that most react to. You can enjoy both which I believe broadens the appeal of the channel. Anyway, love your channel, you keep me company whilst I'm at work and I look forward to watching more of this and other shows.

Mandy Cane Lane

ONCE AGAIN CONGRATULATIONS ON THE PLANE!!! 💚🤗✨️🍻 Also, fun reading! I should really look some of this stuff up if I remember to. I find this kind of stuff fascinating!

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahaha, well thank you very much Steven! 💚🌻 Phoenix Nights this Sunday, hopefully that is more your cup of tea! 🤗

Mandy Cane Lane

Oh awesome!!! Thank you very much Alex! 💚🤗 The character of Cunk is so fun, I really liked it!! 🙌🏻✨️

Mandy Cane Lane

On my list! But it will probably take a while for me to get to that one.. 😅

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahahhaa, thank youuu! 💚🤗 I really didn't expect almost every line to be a joke! 🤣🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

Oh thank you! I found so many things with the Cunk character I didn't know where to start. Then I started wondering how the character stared! 🤗✨️

Mandy Cane Lane

Me tooo!!!!! Everytime I see a snippet of hers, I think it is awesome and want to watch more! 🤗✨️

Mandy Cane Lane

Awesome! So glad to hear it because I loved it and am also excited for more!! 💚🤗

Remi

Oh great I can't wait I recommend watching Derek first because there's a few actors who play similar characters

Mandy Cane Lane

Yes! Plenty of people explained some of it in the Phoenix Nights comments, thank you!! 💚🤗

Mandy Cane Lane

Context is a mighty frustrating thing sometimes when trying to watch comedy from a different culture 😅🤪

Jonathan Davies

You’ve got some great one liners coming up trust me 💪😬

Mandy Cane Lane

Thank you!! Shin kicking sounds ridiculous 🤭. And the bloopers must be really fun! 😅

irreverend

Reminds me of Cumberland Wrestling too I suppose. I think the origins of these things probably go back to when a serious injury could kill you, but people still wanted competitions of strength? I completely pulled that explanation out of my arse there, but it makes enough sense that it might be true :) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumberland_and_Westmorland_wrestling

Sadbnnuy

Hope you do more of these. They are so much fun!

Mandy Cane Lane

I will! I think they are going to be great! 🤗🤗🤗

Josh

Whats this??????¿

Josh

19:50 she also has a very unfortunate hairline. Poor lady person

Josh

Yeah i liked it fanks. Hope you watch the next one 😊
