Mandy, it sounds like the mystery knob on your oven controls whether you want regular convention, fan assistance, and maybe grill. Sometimes there are other things or variations. I can see how the icons might look like a radioactive symbol or a portal. By the way with fan on, you can take 10% off the cooking temperature and/or cook a little quicker, and the grill is so you can brown things or even toast things on the highest shelf.

Long one again, sorry. V Wait! You don't know what brown sauce is yet? 😨 I'm so sorry. Brown sauce (HP sauce -> Google it) is what we put on our bacon sandwich/bap/butty/sarny/roll. (We call it different things in different parts of the country. Long story. It's a very tangy...and brown...sauce made of tomatoes and molasses and a few other things, it's nice and savoury. Basically the British equivalent of soy sauce but creamier. And bacon sandwiches are a perfectly acceptable breakfast madàme! Unlike how our European neighbours called two tiny bread and jams and yogurt a "substantial" continental breakfast. Nah, I'll stick to my full english ta. Rant over. 🙃 Leave the oven Nobs alone Mandy and everything will be fine... 😶🔫 🔫

We also add yellow paste to all sandwiches (you might know it as "butter" but that's just a weird noise people make with their mouths). So, top to bottom: White -> Yellow -> Brown -> Bacon -> yellow -> white. Some people substitute red ("tomato ketchup" to some: tho' that's an even more absurd noise) for brown. What could be more rational than that?
