"IT'S INVISIBLE!!!" made me legit do a spit take. (Hi Kitana, cause some chaos for your mom for me!) You looked so proud of getting close with 341, I think you can count it, and you were closer than either team too :) To one of your last points, some of us do math(s) in our heads. I was always pissed off when the teacher said "Show your workings" because it was just more work when I already had the answer. Holy frick your delayed reaction to the conundrum was hilarious. This whole video made my day. Thank you

The audience is bigger than you think. Behind the people shown at the front, there is usually a bleachers area with more seats. They just don’t get shown :)

In a recent episode, it may have been a Christmas one, our lord and saviour Jesus Christ was in the audience. The camera was turned round to show him and there was more audience than you might initially expect. There wasn't 5000 or anything, he wasn't doing his famous loaves and fishes trick, he was just there to see a comedy gameshow. In fact, in that episode and all the newer episodes you don't normally see the audience at all. They sit further back than in the episodes you have seen so far, out of view of the cameras so that they don't accidentally give Jimmy Carr the Covids. In the Jesus episode, I think some of the audience were wearing face masks.

As you probably know, 8 Out of Ten Cats was a comedic panel show. Countdown is a daytime gameshow that was first broadcast in 1982 and what we see here is a mash up of both formats. Countdown has funny moments, the Dictionary Corner guest might tell an amusing anecdote or there might be a slight moment of levity if an amusing word comes out, but it's gentle humour (or humor as an American might say) rather than the wacky madcap zany humour (or humor as an American might say) we see in the prime time version. In the daytime version, the prize is always a Countdown teapot for the winner and a Suzi Dent book for the loser. Since 2020, they have had no audience at all. The theme tune and clock have been refreshed over the years but they are both still based on the 1982 version. This is probably why you think the titles look like a news programme

In the early episodes of this show combo, they still were giving the teapot. But I think starting with this season they do a new "prize" every show, and the plate this time is on the way to that. If not this season, it happens soon anyway, and it becomes an opportunity to do another joke each time rather than be something they'll actually take home. They're comedians, though. They're mostly on this for a different reason than actually winning the game. (but this doesn't mean you should stop playing along!)
