In the UK after you've just passed your test you can choose to put P plates on, but you don't legally have to, and you can drive wherever you like. Not the easiest place to pass a test here though. By the way, I think you have my name misspelt in the credits :)

Rauko

Jay is an acquired taste .. you have to remember to laugh AT him rather than WITH him .. it'll become a little clearer as time goes on as to why he is the way he is but he's disgusting and lies a lot for a reason ..

irreverend

Cost of respraying a car in the UK these days is about £3000 on average I think. You can get a matte wrap for maybe £2000 if you don't do fiddly bits like door handles I think. Back when this was filmed, I'm guessing about £700-1500 to paint a car

irreverend

Definitely this yeah. You're not supposed to like him, certainly not in the beginning, but we all had a friend a bit like him at school

Charlie Costa

17 is the legal age to drive though you can take your written test at 16. You can do motorway/highway extended courses and that will help with keeping the insurance down. For Inbetweeners, you will start to pitty Jay as the episodes go on and start to understand why he is that way. It's just 4 relatable characters that we all had in our circles as friends growing up. Remember to avoid the season recaps if you don't want to see Simon chugging on that Child lol

Josh

We all knew a Jay at school sadly.

Ryan W.

Mandy are you trying to say you've never carried a car door around a theme park in your underwear? We've all done it

dubs

Can't believe u got trolled by the intro lol

Stevus

that's a weird thing to say about yourself Jay🤔🤪jk, but yes, too true.

Stevus

ahhh the good ol' days

Josh

Random question of the day. If you ever came to the UK what's the first thing you'd wanna do?

Stevus

A friend of mine, when I was younger, bought a cheap crappy little shitbox for his first car. It was white I think, but he wanted to make it look 'cooler' by painting it black. He did this with spraycans. Matt Black spraycans. It was AWFUL, and only got worse as the paint started to peel off. When he upgraded it, he got a yellow Holden Commodore. It's near impossible to find a yellow Holden ANYTHING! Not a popular colour. And he copped a lot of flack for that one too. Just like poor Simon.

Josh

Have you given the driving lesson yet? If so how did it go?

Mandy Cane Lane

Thank you for all the info and I am so sorry!! 🫣 Will fix the name this weekend!! 🌈🙌🏻

Mandy Cane Lane

Ahhh, OK. Noted Jay, thank you. Will ease up on your name's sake 🤪🤗

Mandy Cane Lane

HAHAHAHHAA! Will try to remember Charlie! Thank you! 🌈🙌🏻

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahahhaa! This made me giggle out loud at work Ryan 🤣🤣

Mandy Cane Lane

Visiting my UK bestie of 6 years of course! ✨️🙌🏻

Josh

Eh?? You've only known about me for about 6 or so months 🤣

Stevus

I can't deny him that

irreverend

It's fine, I think I noticed it a month ago but I like the fact even my real name has been mistyped by various government authorities and banks over the decades :) My display name is a real word though. A little archaic

Stevus

Almost forgot, couldn't see a frog (i'll keep looking though, probably it's natural camouflage), but I sure as heckity hoo saw a bird on those pants! Looked like a New Zealand Kiwi to me.

Josh

The bird ate the frog. The long search for a frog continues. 🐸

Mandy Cane Lane

I have! It actually went a lot better than I expected! My friend had zero experience with cars. We are going again next week. Thank you for asking! 🤗

Josh

That's awesome. They will be driving before they know it 🙂🚙

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

Yeah for driving lessons here it's ages: 17 for practical, you can take theory at 16. Which is now multiple choice exam, and a hazard perception test (QTE type thing). Cars have 50 questions, Bus and truck, 100 questions. We also have another seperate test for case studies. You learn in a car on the road with the traffic, and take your test on the road. Test is 40 mins usually. You are allowed to learn in your own car, you have to have 3 years driving before you can teach someone. Parallel park is taught but you only do the park behind a car, never between two. Which is why it's so amazing for me that I was driving busses after just one year of driving cars and up until two weeks ago I couldn't teach anyone to drive even tho I have 2 licenses for 2 years! The bus/hgv test is exactly the same but much more stringent. I failed my first one for being too slow of all things. 😂😂 Doesn't help when you're instructors a raving Scotsman who used to train police interceptors. You have a red L plate when you're learning, a green P (pass) plate after your test. (Red N for novice in Ireland) The UK makes no distinction between normal roads and motorways for a passed driver, but up until recently you couldnt go on motorways while learning. Also Mandy: when your brothers say the back of the ride is the best: I think they may have been fibbing to get front seats 😂😂 such a brother thing to do.

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

All those nerves. But I passed. And two weeks later, my bus got crashed into by a uni student with no insurance. I learnt how tough busses are. The back wings, boot and windows were torn off the car. The bus had a grazed hole the size of my palm and a slightly wonky headlight. Engineer put duct tape on and sent straight back on service. True story.

Mandy Cane Lane

OMG! Hope no one was hurt! And oh my Benjamin! You really are dominating all vehicles! Haha, awesome stuff and thank you for explaining everything! ✨️🤗🙌🏻

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

No problem. That's my goal. Wanna be like Tom Cruise and have a license for everything!!! Also whilst your teaching Mandy: best advice I can give, drivings only ever as hard as YOU make it. No such thing as a bad driver you're only as good as the one you're doing. Experience saves effort. Attitude saves lives. That uni student decided not to stick around after crashing. He got 6 points for failing to stop and 6 points for no insurance. Lost their license on the spot.

Jay is a ‘missing stair’ friend. He’s the guy who people pretend is harmless because they’re rather not confront them. It’s always them that turn out to have sexually assaulted someone and people play it off as banter. Jays a creep and even Donovan the bully character is more respectful towards women. I don’t get everyone saying you will like jay eventually, he just gets worse if anything. He’s a guy you would feel terrified being alone in a room with.

Andy

Subbed for Inbetweeners content. Seasons 2 and 3 are the funniest so get the season 1 out of the way!

Stevus

Great take on it SJ, i think (hope the initials are ok). I've never heard of a 'missing stair' friend though, Please explain? Personally, I see Jay as a very pitiable character. I also agree, even as a male, I would not want to be in a room alone with him, although, for probably very different reasons😅. I also see your point about people not calling out certain inappropriate behaviours (inappropriate probably isn't a strong enough term), but as someone who has no issue calling out bullshit in all its forms, I kind of understand why people are so insipid about it. You can literally lose friends because of it. You can become the bad guy yourself if others don't want to recognise or understand what you're pointing out and it can just look like you're attacking the person, at which point you either give in to peer pressure or stick to your morals and wear the consequences. It can be tough knowing whether you're doing the right thing, even though it seems obvious that you have the moral high ground. But you can't force people to listen to you, and then by the time everyone else figures it out, the damage is done. Often severe damage. I've been there. I actually wrote a whole comment about it not long ago. Hope that didn't get too heavy.

Stevus

Welcome Andy!

Carl-Fredrik L

I understand how you dont like James's character, Mandy. What usually works for me when im bothered by an acting role is I look at something else they have been in, as them self. I can recommend perhaps you watch a clip of James Buckley doing celebrity bake-off? He seems like a real humble bloke in real life 🙂

Carl-Fredrik L

Lee Mack, Bob Mortimer, David Mitchell and James Acaster has also been on there. There is a bit of standup he did when James talks about his experience on bake-off, its pretty funny and grim at the same time

Carl-Fredrik L

I dont think Karl has been on bake off unfortunately (But he did do some cooking on "This morning")

Stevus

If the lessons continue to go well, you could have a new career on your hands, just don't forget about us!😁

Josh

As long as she doesn't do a driving lesson and a reaction at the sane time 😱

Jeffrey44

You should try buying mens shirts. White, blue and occasionally black. Those are the only options.

Jeffrey44

If this is the only show you watch this month that features a brightly coloured (or colored as an American would say) car in a funeral procession, I'd be very surprised. VERY surprised indeed.

Gary

Mandy Cane Lane

Hi Andy! Welcome, and thank you! I do what I can when I can though 😅🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

Yeah, not my kind of person. But I feel like people were mainly saying I will understand why he is the way he is, not so much that I will like him. Don't think I will. 😬

Mandy Cane Lane

Carl! I am able to separate the actor from the character luckily! I know a lot of people can't. Tom Felton playing Draco Malfoy is a great example. Poor guy. But I would love to see him not being awful and baking! Haha, thank you!

Mandy Cane Lane

Lol, I am curious as to why? I have plenty of men's shirts 🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahahha! I will keep a look out Mr 44! Why did you drop you full stop? If I may ask 😊

Mandy Cane Lane

Lmao!! Did not understand he was a cashier!! 🤣🤣🤣 -- Yes they do have learners cars here with two sets of pedals, but most people just learn off of a friend with a car, like my friend is doing with me. He is actually doing quite well!

Jeffrey44

I added the full stop (or period as an American would say) for charity with the hope that others would join in. Very few people did and no money was raised for charity. I might relaunch the campaign at a later date.

Lee Dellbridge

I was confused about how you knew about the car door coming off then I realised I never watched this reaction because it's a Google docs thing and I forgot to watch it lol.

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahaha! Sounds like something that would happen to me 🤪🤣

Remi

🤣 Fucking spray painting cars hilarious this kid on my street recently spray painted his shit box and his friends do came around at night and took it off with paint stripper or some shit and you could here him going ballistic from the next town over it was classic

Stevus

🤣
