Been waiting all week for this one!!

I'm Batman

I can see how it's easy to miss that being malfoys mom, they look so different. It's the same thing as me not noticing that the captain from Titanic and King Theoden from Lord of the rings are the same actor. Having seen lotr an uncountable amount of times and Titanic probably somewhere around 200 times I just found out about a year ago they were the same actor.

Everyone’s a whore, Grace. We just sell different parts of ourselves.

BTW that was Freddie back in the tunnels with Tommy and Danny, he also saved Tommy's life and took a bullet for him.

Donna Castellano

I don't know if you guys picked up that Arthur and John were also in the war with Tommy. We don't see them much in flashbacks because that one incident is the one that haunts Tommy the most. They get into the why more, especially in S6 (which I finally finished).

I read an interesting theory that the three Shelby men each represent a different manifestation of combat PTSD. Thomas is emotionally detached and distant rather than deal with his emotions; Arthur is out of control and abuses substances to try and cope; and John misses the violence and tries to provoke people into fights. I thought it was an interesting way of looking at their personalities. I also read an interesting theory about something in S6, but that'll have to wait a bit 🤣🤣

If you’re interested in watching some more excellent work from Cillian Murphy, I can heartily recommend The Wind That Shakes the Barley (Ken Loach, 2005). It contains an abundance of excellent, affective performances and accurately portrays some of the history/historical perspectives on the Irish War for Independence.

Linda Wightman

Loving your reactions to this brilliant show been waiting for what seems like forever for you all to get to it and it just gets better and better.

Absolutely agreed with the Jemma (Sons) and Pol comparison 😍 such powerful characters yet in stark contrast with the male leads in how they exhibit that power, and both perfectly executed by the two actors. Although, hated a lot about Jemma and not a thing to hate about Pol 😉

Tommy and his mates were tunnel boys. It's not even trench warfare, it was even worse. Once the frontlines froze in certain areas, both sides begun to dig tunnels underneath to blow each other up. A big explosion from underneath upended those trenches pretty well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mines_in_the_Battle_of_Messines_(1917) Of course, very often both sides dug tunnels and dug towards the sounds, so instead of terrible WW1, there was a whole war going on underneath. As Tommy says, it was the fucking worst job in the war. It's all the horror, but claustrophobic. You stab and club each other in a smelly, barely breathable nightmare. Tommy wasn't "just" a WW1 veteran. He was part of the worst battles that ever happened. In modern terms, it's like someone is a marine who invaded Iraq vs this dude is a SEAL who killed Osama Bin Laden. One is a veteran with combat experience, the other is a tough as nails elite soldier with confirmed kills.

Not sure if you have seen this yet but on Disney+ there’s a series called “Europe From Above” in the ep about France they talk about this small town near the France and Germany border called Vauquois where it once stood but now the entire area is covered with craters because of the battle that took under it. I found it a fascinating watch.

Charlie Calver

There's a great Aussie film called Beneath Hill 60 about the tunnel warfare Tommy and co are involved in. Really captures the panic, anxiety, and horror of it all
