The Greatest Showman FULL REACTION

Comments

Jeff K

Given Oak's surprise at how much he loved Hamilton and the idea of a musical in general, color me genuinely shocked to learn this is not a first-time watch for him. EDIT: Also Oak, you're absolutely right in the intro (without actually saying it), that PT Barnum was a horrible human being and it's wild that one of the most universally liked people in Hollywood, who almost everyone who's met him says is the nicest dude on the planet, played him. (An example of what a lovely person Hugh is: I watched an interview recently in which Ryan Reynolds - with Hugh alongside him - was talking about how his kids were obsessed with Greatest Showman and watched it constantly, to the point where Ryan started getting sick of it and remembered walking into the living room to find them watching it again, only this time, Hugh was there performing it live alongside the movie for Ryan's kids.)

Malachi Heldenbrand

Oh man this is an awesome film I watched this movie a year after it came out and I enjoyed every bit of it Hugh Jackman delivered this movie so well

Miss_CJ

omg yeees!! I just got home from work! I got my dinner too! Ready to watch you guys react to my favorite musical!! <3

Alexiani Gollarza

not me checking every 30 min for the entire day xD BUT now a have to wait because I have to work! Oh boy, I can't wait!!

Kaley

While I enjoyed the film, I do wish they didn’t paint PT Barnum in such a good light though, because historically he was not a good man (to say it as nicely as I can). Also, another film to add to your list is “Manchester By The Sea”. Michelle Williams is flawless in that film! It’s a tearjerker though-so have tissues!

Sarah

When I say SCREAMING, trust me this time I actually did scream. 😆😆 I've been so excited for this. Ah! Literally making dinner now and then I'll be sitting down for a watchalong. Can't wait to start it!

Alanna Banana 🍌

Let’s GOOOOOOO!!!!🎪💃🕺🎶 question for everyone, favourite song in this movie? Mine is The Other Side.

Jeff K
>>146108336

Let's just throw it out there in blunt terms: PT Barnum was an absolute monster. Also, regarding Michelle Williams: it's positively wild to think back to my high school days watching Dawson's Creek, and now realizing one of the best actresses of this generation was on a freaking WB show. She's amazing in Brokeback Mountain, as another example.

Lily
>>146108781

Rewrite the stars !!! I think I had that song on replay for a year straight 🤣

Ashley K

I’ve been waiting for this one! So excited to watch this tonight!

Alyssa Dyson

Was never a big fan of musicals until I saw this movie 💜

Bri

I've been looking forward to this all week!

Plebcy

I'm surprised Oak has seen this (3 times too)

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

"This is Me" was the very last song to be written for the movie. They'd been looking for a studio to pick up the film, shopping the script and cast around, doing readings and singing the songs. "This is Me" came in just before they did a reading/singing for Fox, and Keala singing that song got them the green light -- Fox put them into production. Here is footage taken of that presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-e8ZJBzw8Y -- Hugh Jackman is not singing along in the clip because he had just had a carcinoma removed from his face and his surgeon told him he absolutely could not sing for a week because the movement of his face could harm the surgical site. You can watch Keala sing the number live on the Graham Norton Show, and then sit down on the couch and talk about how she came to get the part -- she blames it on Hugh Jackman -- and take part in selling the movie to the studio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BNRBgxiS2c (Saoirse Ronan is also a guest in this episode - good timing!). And here is the performance at the Oscars ("This is Me" lost in the Best Song category to one of your favorites - "Remember Me" from Coco) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL72R0U8zuU

Hayley

Having this drop just before I begin my night shift couldn’t make me happier 😊 thoroughly looking forward to this!

Jeff K
>>146113032

Well someone was cutting some onions while I watched those clips. Especially the Graham clip.

Ginger

You guys gotta watch Hugh Jackman in Les Miserables.

Alyssa Dyson

1:43:03 I think Mason is trying to say it was a quiet romance...with obstacles of course but nothing flashy or over the top and there's nothing wrong with that kind of love.

Alanna Banana 🍌
>>146108336

I mean, I agree with you. But you gotta be able to root for the main character and if they had him be like the real guy the movie wouldn’t be the same.

Alanna Banana 🍌

This movie was Hugh Jackman’s passion project for several years. He’d been trying to get it made for over a decade.

Alexandra ASMR

I love your reaction to this! It’s such an incredible film. I saw it 11 times in the cinema. You guys should check out the videos of this is me and from now on on YouTube from the meeting where they tried to get the film greenlit, they are so moving. Hugh had facial surgery and wasn’t allowed to sing but he couldn’t not sing from now on and towards the end he reopened his stitches on his nose. They are definitely worth a watch. So full of passion! Thanks for another great reaction!❤

Kaley
>>146108336

Oh no-I agree! The film is fun! If you look at it in the fantasy realm lol!

taylor

ok now you guys need to react to high school musical it’s only right

Rob OnlyRoss

This is one of them films where this gave me happy tears, its rare when a film can do that make you feel them vulnerable emotions we get especially being a man where wenare guarded but this film brings it down in a good way 👏🏼

CendrineBibeau

Any chances now that you guys would watch Les Misérables from 2012 with Hugh, Eddie Redmayne, Anne Hathaway (who won and Oscar for her role), Amanda Seyfried, just to name a few ? 🤗

Isaiah

love this musical so much😭 it’s definitely one of my favorites, another FIRE musical is hairspray

BlueJean452

I was right there with you Oak. I think I saw this 3 times when it came out as well. There was something special about experiencing this in the theater. I think part of it was that it came out right before Christmas, so it just evoked so much emotion that was already in the air. I encourage you to also check out the bts of Hugh Jackman pitching this movie to Fox. I saw someone posted some other clips from it but this clip https://youtu.be/6-CCxYR80mU?si=bGKQqIygu0fg-orF is Hugh singing From Now On. He wasn’t supposed to sing that day cause he had just had some minor surgery but he couldn’t stop himself. It really showcases his talent.

Official Backwoodz Logan

Yall should check out the umbrella academy show after some of the other shows you’re watching good series. 4 seasons (4th just dropped) I really like season 2&3. I heard season 4 was meh. Starts slow and season 2&3 are really good

jasminethegreat
>>146108781

Top 3 (not in order) is The greatest show, never enough, and this is me. This list changes ever day sooo. It's too hard to pick a favorite.

Tomasina Hill

Absolutely loved this film and cry every time! For both the music and the message, Les Mis and Hairspray need to be watched!

Alexiani Gollarza

I just loved this reaction, the tears you gave us, the way Oak was singing along with the songs, your faces while watching, how invested you were, it is amazing to see how you liked it. I'm still watching the review but I loved the reaction!

Emily G

What a fantastic reaction! I really really suggest you guys check out Into the woods (2014) Chicago (2002) Moulin Rouge (2001)

Ashley Downey

I also saw this in theaters three times. I had been working at a Regal Cinemas for 8 months when this movie came out. Saw it twice at Regal and once at another theater. Free tickets every week came in handy.

Ivan Rasmussen

Always love the stories you share Oak and you guys are awesome! If you all haven't seen the High School Musical movies, that'd be fun :) You get early Zac haha

Megan the Librarian

Love this one! If you wanna check out another musical (that is underrated in my opinion), you should check out Come From Away on Apple TV+!! It's a pro shot of the stage show (like Hamilton). It's related to the events of 9/11, so September is the perfect time to check it out. (Don't worry, it's not completely depressing or anything). It'll make you laugh; it'll make you cry; it'll restore your faith in humanity! 😊

StaySaneInsideInsanity

Do yall like The Beetles? Another fun musical would be Across The Universe. Just PLEASE more musicals in general!

Kacie
>>146138893

Totally agree! That movie is brilliant! Love the soundtrack too.

Sarah Gwynn

Another great reaction, so fun watching it with you guys! A few great more musical suggestions I think you’d enjoy: - Les Mis - La La land - Steven Spielberg's West Side Story

I'm Batman

Never seen this before tonight and wow, I wasn't expecting to cry this much. Powerful powerful movie. Would love to see you guys react to a movie called The Whale, another movie that will break any person emotionally stars Brendan Fraser.

Christina

I know it’s so hard with YouTube and copywrite but love when y’all react to musicals! Some I would love to recommend: Disney Beauty and the Beast live action Disney Aladdin cartoon and live action Chicago Rent Moulin Rouge Across the Universe Phantom of the Opera Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds) Rocky Horror Picture Show Sweeney Todd Hairspray Cinderella (Brandi and Whitney Houston) Enchanted and Disenchanted

Ashley Downey

If you guys haven't seen Hairspray (2007). You guys should watch it. It's a musical. It has John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron and Christopher Walken in it. It's one of my favorite musicals. Also Les Miserables (2012) has Hugh Jackman in it as well. Into the Woods with Anna Kendrick is great as well. It came out in 2014. It was also announced on August 9th that "The Greatest Showman" musical on Broadway is in the works.

Ashley K

All the songs in this movie are so incredible! Keala Settle's voice is so powerful. Please check out this clip of her singing This is Me for the first time live in front of Hugh and their investors during their workshop session to get the movie greenlit. :') https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-e8ZJBzw8Y

Marbelis

You guys should watch: the producers. It’s hilarious and a great musical with Nathan lane, Matthew Broderick and Uma Thurman.

Annie519
>>146107865

And it's interesting how Ryan Reynolds now has been in Spirited, which is also a musical and I wouldn't say the songs are as good as this but it was very enjoyable and Ryan I thought did a great job for not being a singer unlike Hugh. It would be fun to see these guys do that movie around Christmas time.

Yen Shively
>>146130647

They’re not related dude 🤣 Also that’s just kind of ridiculous to say considering they and billions of other people love GOT and HotD

Annie519
>>146113032

Yeah, that video is awesome, another great video to watch is when they rehearse From Now On, Hugh was not supposed to sing because of his surgery, someone else was supposed to sing in his place but he couldn't help it and ended up singing the whole time and I mean belted it out. He even made a post about it later saying not to do this, I think it did make him bleed, lol.

Annie519
>>146142217

I know. The biggest selling point is the songs, performances and the dancing. Every song in this movie is a banger, there isn't one that I don't like. Right after I saw it for the first time I had to go and download the whole album, lol. And the dancing is incredible. You could see the hard work everyone put in and they all looked like they had a blast. I'm not a dancer at all but this film makes me want to, lol. I'm a sucker for the From Now On number, don't get me wrong This Is Me is fantastic but there's something about that song and dancing that I just love and gravitate towards the most.

Olive_Sandy

Moulin Rouge & Chicago next please!!

Alexander Alayon Jr

More recommended famous musicals and their tone: Les Miserables (Heavy) Across The Universe (Good Mix) Rent (Mostly Heavy) Mamma Mia (Fun) Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog (Mostly Fun) In The Heights (Fun) Jingle Jangle A Christmas Journey (Fun)

Jeremy Burch

Some musicals I really love and would recommend. Rent, Tick Tick Boom which is about the person who made Rent, Moulin Rouge, In The Heights, Come From Away, Across the Universe, Les Miserables, Hairspray, The Color Purple, Matilda the Musical, Enchanted, The Prom, Anna and the Apocalypse, that's all I can think of off the top of my head right now, there's definitely more. Also, I'll just put them here, cause I think there fun and I enjoyed them for the most part, but they are polarizing and some people hate them, some people love them, Mean Girls(2024) and Cinderella(2021).

Angel Griffin

I think it was answer or Quinn who asked “is this a performance on stage”… well D23 literally just announced “The greatest showman: The musical” which is set to me a show on stage! What a coincidence😂😂

GillyBean

Omg seeing Rebecca Ferguson reminds me, you guys have gotta see Doctor Sleep, Mike Flanagans sequel to The Shining. She and Ewan McGregor are amazing in it

LL

Great reaction to watch along! I would recommend Moulin Rouge as well as everyone else

alannah

i sang with hugh on his australian tour in 2019 (with my choir) and it was one of the best experiences of my life. i also did a media event with both hugh and keala for the tour and sung "this is me" and "a million dreams" with them. they're both such talented and absolutely lovely people.

Caroline

Great, I can't wait to see it. Are you also planning to watch Les Miserable? It's a real musical classic 😍👌🏼on Broadway since 1980. Every person involved in theater or music in any way knows at least three of the songs by heart or has had to learn them for auditions. The movie is also a pretty good adaptation, in my opinion. With an outstanding cast.

Maddie Loftus

None of you are going to believe this, but as of about 8 hours ago Disney announced that this movie is in production to be on Broadway 😳

Stephanie

I went to see this three or four times at the theatre. From Now On and The Greatest Show at the end made me tear up and gave me goosebumps. It's just a different experience when you watch it at the theatre with surround sound and on full volume.😅😉 I just love the movie and all the songs are great.

Official Backwoodz Logan
>>146130647

Exactly they were forced to be raised together “siblings” but not at all. Some people can’t understand it’s not real. GOT is the one who lmao has that stuff not this

Maya

you guys should watch hairspray my all time fav musical movie and zac efron kills it in it as all ways.

Jeff K

I hope you guys add the original West Side Story to the schedule sometime. (The Spielberg remake is good too, but you gotta start with the original. It's one of the best musical movies ever made.)

Anthony Velasquez

Awesome reaction can’t wait for the next musical you guys react to also few more to add to the list Hairspray, Rent, and though I’m not the biggest fan of the movie version but do love the broadway show version Dear Evan Hansen might be worth a look into because the soundtrack is really good but it’s a very emotional movie/musical that deals with some heavy themes

Anthony Velasquez
>>146145599

Even though the movie version isn’t the best I would add Dear Evan Hansen(Heavy) still has a great soundtrack

Lauren

Watch Hairspray! You will LOVE it!

Lirryk
>>146141638

one more for sweeney Todd...Incredible cast, incredible voices...(big Alan Rickman fan here ^^)

Anthony Velasquez
>>146145599

If you plan to try to watch the broadway version but if you can’t the movie is fine just isn’t as good the movie leaves out some songs

Tito

HAIRSPRAY! YES

Katie

Yes this is one of those movies where you have to watch it and enjoy it for what it is. PT Barnum is way more than a horrible person. He’s absolutely evil. So i can 100% understand why someone would not want any part in watching this movie

Jenna

Tick, Tick, Boom on Netflix for sure!!! It tells the life of the creator who made the musical “Rent”.

Abigail.M

The way I gasped for no reason when I saw this is actually ridiculous! I love this movie and great reaction!

Gabriel Dobson

Awesome reaction as always guys. Please react to The Lovely Bones, and Atonement.

Kirstine Aaen

I relate the most to Charity's character. She's just so beautifully written.

Angie Woodson

You have no idea how healing it is to watch three burly men watch and enjoy a musical and speak so thoughtfully of it. After putting up with so much toxic masculinity in the past (in the general landscape, not you three in particular), it's so refreshing to see the you guys not being too proud to branch out. So much ❤️ to you all.

Biancalama

Rewrite the Stars hooked me on this movie. Zac and Zendaya gave me chills! 🥰

Alondra 🖤

Hairspray would be another great musical for you guys to watch

Katherine Rodriguez

Hairspray, Grease, Dreamgirls, Mamma Mia and Les Miserables are some of my favorites musical. You guys must watch!

CallingCollins

Mamma Mia, The High school Musical series and Grease is a must! lol I'd love to watch you guys react to that

Lisa - Marie

Heathers the musical (2023), hairspray, bohemian rhapsody, rocketman, respect, dreamgirls, chicago, grease, mamma mia and moulin rouge are all films i think would make interesting reactions.

kz-i-co

This is my record for seeing in the theater the most times and that was 6 times 😆

Ruarí Kelsey

I’m not gonna lie… I made a bad call. I paid for Patreon specifically for this reaction and I pretty much watch this channel for Oak’s reaction (no offence to the other guys, he’s just my guy) and then I find out HE’S ALREADY SEEN IT!? I screwed up big time 😂 my own damn fault I guess. No point in watching it now.

Ruarí Kelsey
>>146902736

After the hours of top notch content you’ve given that I’ve loved? $7 is a decent price to pay. And it was my fault because you put the ‘first time watching’ category in the description! I’m just being pissy because I didn’t get something I wanted. Don’t mind me, you guys are great 🙌

Alliyah Denei

My first day here as a new BaddMedicine Patreon subscriber and this reaction did not disappoint! The music in this movie is so incredibly powerful, it was so sweet seeing Oak and Answer get teary eyed at certain parts. There's so many amazing messages in this film so I am glad you guys were ready, willing and able to watch it! Can't wait to dive into more full reactions. It really feels like you are watching with friends

Ameera Moua

love you guys! when I don't see my friends for a while your videos keep me company :-D

Logan Garrett

Guys got to watch Newsies!! Got an actor in it that might suprise you :)

Charles Amadeus

I'm so happy you guys reacted to this masterpiece, I finally found time to watch it again with y'all! This movie still makes me tear up every time. I highly recommend, even just in your own time, checking out the workshop featurettes on Youtube for The Greatest Showman. There are two, each about 5 minutes, and they are from the greenlight workshop to get the movie approved as a film. From Now On and This Is Me are taken to another level, with the former performance having Hugh sing one day after nose surgery and that emotional, passionate performance getting them greenlit, and Keala coming out of her shell truly for the first time in This Is Me. I don't agree with anything regarding real-life PT Barnum, he was horrific, but the way Hugh and his team showcase the ideas of imagination and celebration of what makes us special is so impactful. Hugh Jackman spent a decade on this project, only getting greenlit in the last year or two, and his passion and talent show through. As someone who has spent his whole life being the one that doesn't fit in, this movie and soundtrack always feel like coming home. P.S. As of a week and a half ago, Disney officially announced that a full stage musical for The Greatest Showman is coming!

Thomas

I understand why you blur it. But I am also a member of the Patreon of Alex Hefner. He recently decided to stop blurring after he did some research. Based on a combination of the law and some lawsuits from the past he can show the unblurred version without problem. To clarify I don't have a problem with the blurred version but maybe something to look into. Because based on your reaction, it isn't the same product you distribute. You add value so that would mean it's not under the copyright. Because based on the added value it would be fair use which means you don't need permission to use it.

Malene Jensen

I recently became a Badd Medicine member. A little late, i know, Loved your reaction to this movie. you should watch Hairspray (Zac Efron) and Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp) :) Cant wait to see more reaction from you guys, love from Denmark

Mainn

So glad you guys like this! It is definetly one of the better new movie musicals. Zac Efron is also in Hairspray (2007) a musical that is notorious for the balance between serious topics and a fun-loving 60s theme, it is a fan favorite for those new to musicals and even those that don't like them very much. I'll also take this time to recommend Chicago with Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta Jones, a musical about women on death row, it's truly a great performance.

Thomas, do you have the link where he mentions this? We have his Patreon. If you do, I can add to my investigation on this matter.

Try this link. If this doesn't work search for copyright on his Patreon and the first thing that pops up is it.

PaytLeighGrimmlin#1

I am with Oak on this one! I was a senior in high school when this movie came out and I went and saw it with all of my theater friends (I was a theater nerd in high school) and I then returned to see it in theaters for a total of 10 times because I could not get enough of this movie! I LOVE when you guys react to musicals and I cannot wait to see what other musicals come up for you guys in the future!

Anna Ramirez

Hope to see you react to Les Miserables one day! 😍

Lucy Jane

have you seen mama mia? p.s stil lhoping for you to react to the 100 one day lol
