Getting ready to watch.

Well I know what I’m doing this evening

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

The lead character's name is Carmen, not Carmine - it's 100% the show's fault that y'all think it's Carmine, because in the second episode, Richie referred to him "Carmine" when he was in the hardware store with Sydney. For whatever reason, they didn't fix it, but it's always Carmen or Carmy going forward. As for "Fuck brunch!" - the veterans of restaurants that serve brunch can explain it much better than i can. Here are some quotes from a Reddit thread specifically about Carmy and Sydney saying "Fuck brunch" (I'm not linking to the thread because there are spoilers, but if you google "Why do Carmy and Sydney say "fuck brunch" you'll find it): "Brunch is notorious. It’s the service with the the lowest average check per customer, but also happens to be the busiest service too. Not to mention it's early, after a busy weekend, and can be messy with all the made to order omelettes and eggs. It's also not a correct representation of the restaurant." "Brunch is awful. Depending the place, it’s sheer volume and The people suck - entitled and demanding. Half the time they just take up space and stop spending money , which hurts the staff working front of house. Sometimes the staff has to get their stupid early because of the prep it takes with a different menu." "Brunch sucks because you have to get to work earlier, set up and prep extemporaneous shit since brunch has its own special menu, most of us are hungover, people are dressed up and feeling good about themselves for going to church just to turn around and act like assholes at a restaurant, it’s hot, it’s always hectic because they all come in massive waves, bartenders are in a bad mood cuz they have to make 9,000 mimosas and bloody Mary’s and of course the girls at your table want shots for some reason, the cooks are mad because people want to modify every single brunch dish that’s already a pain in the ass to make, and you can see everyone having a nice fun Sunday except you."

Glad episode 4 was more easy going, so far it's my favorite episode this season lol. Don't think I could handle another high tensioned episode, which is weird because I've watched shows like Breaking Bad, Shameless, and other high stress shows but they never affected me the way this show has.

AllyBoo124

Gourmet donuts for the guys for the next episodes!

AllyBoo124

Loved y’all’s reaction as always and just oh my goodness do I love this show

Chef Sydney was not using Carmen's $500 knife when she was cutting carrots.

Al-Anon is not AA... it's an offshoot of AA that is meant for the friends and family of alcoholics and addicts. AA is for the alcoholics themselves.

One thing that I love about this show it's that is is super self aware. Thye know that having so much caos and tension eventually gets exhaustive. Like, with Richie, when you're about to be done with him, they gave you a episode where he's more chill so you can recenter yourself.

Blue

Thanks for your reaction! I absolutely binged this series when you guys released the first two ep reactions and loved it and I’m obsesseddd! I wouldn’t have started it if u hadn’t reacted to it, so thanks 😆 For some more info: al-anon isn’t AA, it’s for people who have had loved ones or anyone in their lives who have been in addiction or are still in addiction. It’s not for addicts or alcoholics, it’s for the people that they’ve affected, to come together and heal and learn ways to move on and forgive. Personally, I go to 3 AA meetings a week and thought it was really cool how they’ve included Al-anon in the show bc not many shows/ movies touch on it and I feel it’s super helpful to real life people and just super interesting to see in The Bear :))

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

Mason Quinn - The Wiener's Circle is where they super-insult the customers 😃 Ed Debevic's is a 50's-themed diner where the staff is kinda snarky, but not flat-out nasty and rude like Wiener's.

Dee

Your anxiety hasn't even begun to peak🤣🤣🤣 I don't think I've seen another show that kept me so stressed out but I only saw the first season or two of this so it'll be nice to catch up and we can all have high blood pressure together lol.

"Is this show gonna turn into something positive?" I've watched this show a lot, and one thing I've learned is that it actually has so much in common with Ted Lasso. It generally has the opposite disposition to Ted Lasso, but both shows explore found family, and you'll notice similarities in the story structure, themes, and characters as you watch.

Ste Rawlings

Yeah they are turned off by Pete because he's a normal well adjusted person.

The first 2 episodes, I'm gonna be honest right now... were incredibly hard for me to get through. To a lot of people that don't understand how the food industry works, it is pretty unimaginable. For myself, I developed severe PTSD as a result of working under an evil, manipulative, gaslighting human being for two years in a fast food restaurant. I'm currently still healing, and for some reason, watching this show with you guys has evolved into being part of my healing process from the hell I endured.

Cristy

Episode four is one of my faves of the season (ep eight is also amazing). Poor Pete gets so much shit but it's pretty funny to see them all find some common ground when it comes to him, lol. I love Tina and it's a great character shift this episode. I like episodes out of the kitchen too, they really let you just watch quietly and soak in all of the story telling. I am loving these reactions, I knew you guys would love this show.

Cristy

FYI, in terms of preparation for their roles, Jeremy Allen White (Carmy) & Ayo Edebiri (Syd) both attended a 10 day crash course at the Institute of Culinary Education and then were sent to work at restaurants. Jeremy Allen White worked at the french restaurant Pasjoli for a month, mainly doing prep.

Cristy

Also, the needle drops are so good in this show. Check it Out by John Mellencamp is so great in the outro.

DTGstl314

When Carm asked Jimmy when the picture of him and Carm's dad was taken, and Jimmy said, "Repeat party, Grant Park, '92", he was referring to the championship rally for the Chicago Bulls following their second consecutive NBA title in June 1992. They would go on to win again in 1993, then Michael Jordan retired and they missed the Finals in '94 and '95, then Jordan unretired and they won did a threepeat again (96-98). 6 titles in 8 years, and probably would have been 8 titles in 8 years if Jordan had been there the whole time. The city of Chicago is definitely a character on this show.

DTGstl314

The "best restaurant in the world" is referring to Eleven Madison Park in Manhattan, which was in the fact named the Best Restaurant in the World in 2017 by a prestigious British culinary magazine. https://www.theworlds50best.com/awards/best-of-the-best/eleven-madison-park.html It's a three Michelin star restaurant, and you can expect to pay well over $1,000 for dinner for two there if you get wine pairings with the tasting menu.

Violet

Fuck brunch. Lol, it's like a punishment shift. The busiest time for restaurants is Friday and Saturday night, so TYPICALLY the brunch shift is for people who are new, inexperienced, or pissed off whoever is making the schedule. The industry is powered by alcoholics and addicts, because of the HIGHLY stressful environment and crazy hours. So Sunday morning, MOST of the back AND front of house are HUNGOVER. Also, brunch service TYPICALLY features leftovers, scrapes (hello frittatas and quiche) and meat/fish the front of house couldn't sell during the week. It's a shit shift.

Violet

The first scene in episode 4 is traumatic because the first Bakery I worked in I was in charge of the donut fryer and you literally have to toss the dough in there and flip them with these long Chopsticks so your arms are over a huge vat of oil and I had so many oil burns on my forearms when I left that job it took a year for my forearms to fully heal. I'm amazed I don't have scars from it. But on the plus side now I can flip things in a pan of oil typically using one of my fingernails or like the tip of my finger as long as I don't have to touch the oil itself, my husband calls me asbestos hands because I can handle such hot foods from working in kitchens and bakeries.

Ronny H

Them hating Pete because he's NORMAL 😂😂
