Awww shit here we go again 😆 might be a unpopular take but I prefer 28 weeks later over 28 days, that intro is GOATED one of the best in horror not just the infected genre, and having hawk eye was just a bonus 😆😊

28 Days Later >> 28 Years Later >> 28 Weeks Later

You might recognize Don from another movie called Trainspotting. Another very grim, realism type movie, set in Scotland. I highly recommend it to watch/react to. It'll give you guys something to talk about for hours. 28WL is my least favourite of the three. Though still a good watch. My favourite of the trilogy is 28YL. Can't wait for that reaction. This time next week.

Has to be in the running for most intense openings in at least recent movie history.

Look, the zombie apocalypse is fucked and probably the worst apocalypse. I see both sides with Mason Quinn and Oak. I definitely agreed with Diamond Dave with Don dropping that crowbar; that could have helped with the scene with his wife—that was mistake one. With zombies, man, that situation could have gone different ways. It's such a harsh world because it is about survival, but you have to think, would you risk it, especially for your loved ones?

This stressed me out more than Hi Nanna. I need a cigarette.

Love this movie, personally my favorite of the 2 (haven't watched the new one yet). In terms of Don I can see both arguments but I side with Mason Quinn more, in that exact situation logic was thrown out and it's all about surviving to see your kids once again. I will say though, he did fuck up by lying about what happened and he is (partly) to blame for the re-outbreak, only saying partly because the other part of the blame should be put on the military as well, you have a single survivor who is infected and you don't have guards by her door or anything to make sure no one comes in contact with her. But yeah, the sense of total chaos is just perfect and is the reason I love this one more than 28 Days Later, easily a 5/5 for me. Oh and as for the whole "if it was his kids" situation, I do think in that scenario Don would make sure his kids survive even if he had to sacrifice himself, the reason being is it's a total different kind of connection/love a parent shares with their kids. So it'd be a whole different scenario if the roles were reversed and it was his kids in danger, yes I do believe he'd sacrifice himself to make sure they survive. Anyways, great reaction guys and I can't wait to see the next one for the first time as well.

Alex

Just started watchin, but Oak, how can you not recognize Begbie from Trainspotting? I'm referring of course to the comment about "two actors I don't recognize" in the beginning. You guys totally gotta watch that for the channel. I would LOVE to see that reaction. lol.

Maisie

All I can say is, if I were in an apocalyptic scenario, I'd reeeeallly hope I'm with Oak and not Mason Quinn!

MJ

Yeah, self preservation instinct is strong and all, but I think an important distinction for me is that Don doesn’t just simply run away. He closes the door, shutting his wife (and “random kid”) inside a room with an infected to improve his own chance of survival and decreasing theirs even further. That’s a pretty calculated decision in my eyes, not someone who’s thrown all logic out the window. And shutting that door seems like the only reason he did survive because the infected looked directly at him and ran toward the door right as he shuts it. So there’s no way he would’ve had time to get that window open and get out of it. So, he didn’t just run to save himself. He actively made a choice that would condemn them to save himself.

The Helicopter pilot Harold Perrineau is also the lead character in the FROM series. It might be coming soon after looking at the recommendation page on the site.

Freddie Miles

I will forever defend Don's decision to leave Alice. He had to survive... for his kids. Alice was an idiot.

Ste Rawlings

The reason he tried more to save Jacob is because the situation wasn't hopeless, there was the possibility of getting him back in the boat without facing certain death.

Ste Rawlings

Genuinely amazed at how much you guys liked this, by far the worst of the 3 imo

This has nothing to do with the actual movie but now that you guys have seen Robert Carlyle "Don" in this you must watch him in Once Upon A Time! Not only was it a really great show, would make for such a fun reaction series but he is incredible, his performance and character is worth watching all on it's own and that's saying a lot because there are so many great performances and characters in this show. And a bonus, since you guys are tending to watch more classic Disney films it would be so much fun to see if you notice any of the references or nods. It would just be a blast and I've been wanting you guys to react to more "older" shows. So please do this one!!

Sammy

I haven’t seen this movie in well over a decade, but that opening scene — Ron running from the infected with that wide-shot and score — is still burned into my memory 🔥 For those who are puzzled why France gets showed in the end: England and France are connected by the Channel Tunnel - an underwater rail tunnel (about 50 km/31 miles) 👩‍🏫

Artem Dmytrenko

I am more on Team Mason here. Don was buying them time and then tried to pull her with him. She had great maternal instincts, but zero survival ones.

Artem Dmytrenko

It's interesting to see such lively discussions 🙂

Mason quinn is absolutely correct in the intro. "You can't save everybody, sometimes you can't save anybody" One of the best quotes I've ever heard, honestly.

Sammy

I agree with Mason Quinn. When things go really wrong, primal instincts take over. (except mama bears)

4f cigarette burn

I actually do agree with Quinn. Don has shown he is quite capable and he was protecting them all, and he even did. He was fighting for them all with a crowbar. They even seemed like they made him the guy in the position of power. For good reason. It was such a screwed up situation he's in. Everything goes wrong in just a few minutes. He was clearly the best protector out of them all. It's Jacob that ran out on them instantly. He was already at the boat but even then he also tried to help the old lady before she got pulled down. I think in the situation, he definitely had no chance. He HAD to run. There's no way. I agree fully with Mason. They show it in such a distinct way that you can't actually see a choice for Don. They showed how the rage virus works, and how QUICKLY they invaded the house and how quickly everything goes to shit. It's not like a house fire, or some other potential liveable situation. It's the rage virus. I even understand when he kisses her, he loves her and always had. She even forgave him because she also loves him. He clearly feels like shit about it all that time. Apologises to her properly and even admits that he was scared. He couldn't have let her out, but the gesture of his love for her is what killed him. I do feel like the treatment of Don is a bit too harsh. He's stuck in a rock and a hard place, and he did something VERY human.

Kyle

I agree with quinn here but as a movie that isnt real it doesnt matter what the guys or us viewers say we would do as if not in that exact situation we dont know what we would do or what would happen and anyone saying otherwise is nothing but a bullshitter lol

Megan

I love this movie! Can't go wrong with Jeremy Renner and Robert Carlyle (Don). I know Robert as Rumpel from Once Upon a Time but he has done a lot of work. The intro is still one of the most heartbreaking scenes for me. Don really didn't have a choice. There was no way he could have gotten to her and with the amount of infected and how quick they were, he wouldn't have had the time to draw them to him to save either of them. He had to survive to find his children, if they were still alive (they didn't know), and you could tell how much he regretted "abandoning" his wife. Also, his wife wasn't willing to abandon the kid and jeopardized everyone. To me, that look before Don slammed the door was him processing that she would allow them both to die for the kid they met 20 seconds ago. I don't think he was in the wrong here. Realistically, had he gotten them both out, the kid would've probably took off again and his wife would've again gone after him and left Don. It sucks that he had to abandon her, and I'm sure the betrayal she felt in that moment, but I support his decision. Don tried to save everyone! He stayed back with the crowbar to allow them time to escape. His wife decided to go after the kid instead of leaving. Don went back for her and tried to drag her out and she refused. He even closed the door/shut her in to try and prevent more from getting to her. He could've just turned and walked away but didn't. Then he tried to pull Jacob onto the boat, despite being surrounded by the horde, and didn't give up until Jacob was clearly overtaken prior to turning. Don TRIED, so while he did leave his wife, she left him no choice. And to that, the intro is also one of my favorites. This is the first zombie/infected chase in a movie where I honestly didn't know if the runner would make it.

I'm Batman

I absolutely loved him in Once Upon A Time. He was my favorite in the show, his character had so many layers and was the most complexed character I feel like. Plus his performance was just perfect. Really hope the guys react to the show, despite the questionable CGI and green screens, the stories and how they intertwine with each other is worth the experience. Even if the story kinda takes a dip in the very later seasons.

NovusIgnis

Nah, I gotta side with Quinn here. The blame falls on Alice completely. It's outbreak time, we don't have the luxury of standing around wasting time crying about some kid that you just met. The same thing happened in the barn with the old lady They tried to make Jacob seem like he abandoned them too when he didn't. He kept telling the old lady to climb up, and she only started after the infected were inside and halfway to her. Then she had the audacity to ask Jacob for help as they're biting into her. That's a jerk move right there. Way to give the guy trauma for trying to help you while you still had time. Don tried getting his wife out too but she wouldn't leave the kid alone. He closes the door to the room, tries to get them out, and she's just standing there the whole time doing nothing. The only wrong thing Don did was lie to his kids and give his wife a kiss.

Zeke

Definitely agree with Quinn. Don couldn’t have done absolutely nothing in that situation. Especially with no weapon. Don made the right call if his goal was to survive. His wife was cooked when she went back for the kid. We all know Oak and Dave would do the same thing in that same scenario.

M K7001

Honestly I think I'm even colder than Quinn if you want to think of it that way. I don't think it's cowardly to want to save your own life even if it had been his own kids. It's one thing I think if it seemed safe enough to help (like the situation after with the boat) but it was basically a death sentence to try to go back for his wife. The kid clearly died and she would have died had she not been immune.. For me it's kind of like the lack of being nice isn't the same as being mean. The lack of bravery I don't think automatically makes you a coward even though I think that is actually the definition lol. Cowardice has a more negative connotation than I think is warranted essentially. I will say after the fact he definitely acted cowardly by lying to his kids about what he did. Morally it makes sense to me to prioritize the life of children simply because they're more dependent on adults in general but I wouldn't call someone awful necessarily for not wanting to do that either. tldr: Don was justified in running away but not justified in lying to his kids about what happened.
