So Tired

IT'S HERE!!!

So Tired

I remember when I first watched Episode 7, I didn’t realize it was all done in one shot until I saw people in the comments talking about it. Then I rewatched it, and I was shocked.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

Been anticipating posting this since you guys started the show. This is how the tension was ratcheted up so much in just 20 minutes: it was one take. They shot the whole episode, beginning to end, in one shot. They did it four (or five?) times, and that was it -- I don't remember which take is the one that aired, but they literally shot 20 minutes without a cut, did it five times, and that's how we are where we are. ‘Holy Shit, Have They Not Cut Yet?’ How The Bear captured 18 frantic minutes at The Beef in one take : https://archive.ph/GvdtR

dave saying carmy needed to text syd to center himself … yeahhh

Dee

I couldn't wait for you guys to see the chaos of 1x7. When I say I was STRESSED watching this episode 🍺🍺🍺😅

Jeff K.

Jeremy Allen White is so good on this show in general, but that monologue in episode 1x8 is unquestionably what won him the Emmy for this season.

Sharrod Wolf

18 minute one shot is insane especially with that much tension in a small area like that

Violet

I love how long you guys take to talk about the show after it's over the post show discussion is my favorite part of these reactions!!

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

None of these are spoilers; all of this is stuff you have seen in season one and the implications of what you've seen and heard re: your questions about why Carmy is closing The Beef and opening The Bear, and how Mikey could have known Carmy *would* do it. Carmy mentioned in his sharing at Al-Anon that he and Mikey had had a plan to open a restaurant together - they had a name, a vibe, etc. You've also seen, over the course of this season, several shots of a sketch of the interior of an upscale restaurant pinned to the wall, and a stencil of a face of a stylized bear - you just may not have noticed because of course they don't draw attention to them, otherwise it would be lampshading the whole thing - but the hints have been there all along that Mikey wanted Carmy to inherit The Beef and transform it into The Bear, and that Mikey was taking Jimmy's money to give to Carmy so he could do it. BUT - the missing piece of the puzzle was the card in the envelope, that Mikey fully intended for Carmy to get on day one, but as Mikey was such a mess, it didn't get handled correctly, and then when Richie found it, he purposely didn't give it to Carmy out of spite - so yes, the whole thing could have gone all wrong. But lucky for them (and for us, and for the show, natch), it didn't. "Let it rip" = go for it, and the info on the back of the card for how to find the money to open The Bear. (Meanwhile, MQ out here writing fanfiction for S2 🤣🤣🤣)

Man oh man do I love this show. Episode 7 is truly one of the best episodes of television ever in my opinion. When I watched it, it never did the blackout commercial cuts so I was just on the edge of my seat the entire time I think holding my breath. There is SO MUCH to be said. I agree that Sydney went too far with Richie, I think it was actually very out of character for her and just so so so bad. However I still love my girl and I can see how she got to that place. Richie has been pushing her and blaming her over and over again for months. And now carmy said they were good about the risottos but then yelling at her about the risotto, and then when she said we agree he said your idea but yes. Like he keeps putting her in charge and giving her responsibility which is great, but he also keeps leaving her out to dry by herself. They work better when they’re talking. And the risotto thing was an accident syd didn’t know he was a critic, I never even thought it could’ve been on purpose, we see her just hand it to the guy. With Marcus, my sweet angel baker baby Marcus, I also might’ve slapped that donut out his hand I fear. I know you hear the chaos going on and your job is cakes, the donuts are not going anywhere and either way like no way you took carmy away from the chaos to tell him to try food that isn’t on the menu rn WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US. I felt bad but like sir pleas not right now. And y’all are right about Richie seeming to thrive in the chaos and that being he was seemingly the only calm one in episode 7. Great reaction as always, love this show and you guys and can’t wait to watch your reaction to the finale!

According to Google, here’s why Mikey put the money in the cans. Didn’t even think about the cans protecting it from fire. Pretty clever. Cannot WAIT for you guys to get into season 2. “Mikey hid money in tomato cans to provide a secret financial safety net for Carmy to start a new restaurant after his own death, as he was a longtime drug addict and believed he would ruin anything good he had. He also borrowed money from Uncle Jimmy with no intention of paying it back, knowing the cash would be hidden to be found by his brother later. The cans also provided a way to protect the cash from a potential fire at the restaurant, as the tomato sauce would surround and protect the money.”

The end of this season always makes me tear up. Also remember the first episode when Carmie tossed that can into the trash because he didn't want to make the spaghetti? LOL!

DTGstl314

The nickname Bear comes directly from Carmy's last name, Berzatto (pronounced Bear-zah-toe). It's used mostly for Carmy, but all of the Berzatto kids (Mikey, Sugar, Carm) call each other Bear. Richie referred to Mikey as "Mikey Bear" early in the finale episode.

Ok gonna be real here Syd and Markus are the biggest assholes in the kitchen here. If this was reality after working multiple kitchens myself neither would be allowed back even if they wanted to come back. Let's explain why. 1. Markus already blew the previous mixer and power after he got preoccupied with his donuts not doing his actual job with the cakes. He was given a second chance by carmi while he was sad. Not long after the same thing happens he is asked by carmi nicely to make sure he is ontop of cakes today and he isint doing that even before the orders. Later when Syd calls him out to say hey WE NEED cakes he gets mad at her when he is the one LITERALLY NOT DOING HIS JOB. He then goes back to doing donuts fucking over everyone on the staff including his boss then has the gall to say hey look at my donuts ive been playing with all day not working. Carmi has had it and calls him out for fucking him over as now no cakes are ready besides the fridged ones and pre done ones. Markus gets mad and instead of just finishing his job then quitting at the end of the day he screws everyone and storms off. 2. Syd has a history of doing too much too fast as noted by her bosses. She self admits she is in debt because she did the same with her catering buisness and went too fast. Since episode 1 she has tried to push carmie to do more and more faster than he is comfortable with and he mentions he wants to stabilize the buisness first. She also cant let things go. With the risotto carmy says its fine let's get through the day then talk about it. She proceeds to still question him on it. She constantly pushed for mobile orders and when carmie finally says sure let's do it she fucked up royally and left pre orders on for all the orders to come in at once. Carmie tries to handle it as the more experienced chef in this situation but Syd again just doesnt listen he calmly asks her to leave the expo as he needs to organize the orders in a way he believes is correct. She refuses to after being asked multiple tims till he yells at her. She then proceeds to be a ass to Tina for 0 reasons and to Richi but when Richi is actually being a better worker than her she jabs him constantly. She then blames everyone and quits mid service also. Let's also get to Richi yes he is a ass and he constantly is cracking jokes and thinks Syd is changing the place with the risotto sneakily. But watch what happens when the order go off and its all hands on desk. RICHI IS WORKING IN EVERY SCENE. He is making fries, he is getting orders, he is assisting with the vegetables to speed things up, carrying food around (which yes Syd fucked up not cornering). When things are bad he works. Meanwhile Syd gets into a pissing contest about the veggies because she doesnt want his help when she is clearly overloaded mentally and does need help everyone does. She then brings up his kids and stabs him in her argument with him. In a real kitchen leaving during a rush is not only a ass thing to do to your boss. But also to every other cook and staff on that line that has to pick up your slack. Neither would never work in this kitchen again likely becuase they could very well sink the team again. People love to defend these 2 because they like their characters but in reality they were the worst here.

DTGstl314

I don't know if you caught it or not, but the voice on the Ballbreaker machine that was talking back to Fak was Paul Rudd.

The last episode will never cease to give me chills. Man what a twist.

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Sydney took it too far; she should have never brought up his daughter. I would have acted the same way Ritchie would have if you said something about my kid. And Marcus, come on, babe, you have to get with the program. His face when Carmy slammed the donut on his hand kind of broke my heart.

Jeff K.

There are two episodes in season two in particular that I cannot wait to see y’all react to. One for obvious reasons for the folks who have watched the show and know exactly what I’m talking about (especially since the guys referenced something multiple times in these reactions that directly, little do they know, tie into that episode), and the other because I think it’s easily the best episode of the entire series, centered on a character who I think is the absolute heart of the show (trying to be vague and as non-spoilery as possible).

Jordan_Sal 413

the money wasn't from drugs guys, it was all Uncle Jimmies money that Mikey was hiding in the cans for Carmey because he knew he was gonna... go away.. Ep 7 was all one take btw

Ashley K

I honestly don't know how I feel about our characters in episode 7 because I can empathize with all of them. Marcus working on that damn donut, great, but prioritizing his project over work? If I was in that moment, I probably would've exploded at him to some degree also if he came to me with it while I'm running around with a bunch of steam coming out of my ears. Sydney is talented and a big asset but I still had the biggest issue with her in this episode. She doesn't take responsibility even when she's actually wrong which isn't that often, but the pre-order option was entirely her fault which is what caused the chaos in the kitchen. Richie is a clown and it's best to just ignore people like that but she stooped to his level and decided to engage with him during that chaos with personal attacks, stabbed him, and then quitting 15 minutes in was immature. And btw, who tf holds a knife in the kitchen with the pointy end forward? She literally was holding it out and even took a step towards Richie. I know pressure can get to one's head but still... she should've known to call out "knife behind" or something. Carmy dumped management responsibilities onto Syd while giving her no support so her build-up was granted, but releasing it all in that chaos was just irresponsible. At the end of the day though, Carmy is to blame bc he's the head chef and the kitchen and staff are his responsibilities. I do understand him losing his cool during the heat of THAT moment, but his aggression was still too far. If he was a bit more collected without the extra aggression, he probably could've controlled the kitchen better. Seeing how Richie can stay collected (along with all the other "OG's") while telling Carmy to calm down makes me think maybe Mike was able to handle a chaotic situation better.

Mo

Ep 7 is insane. People give Sydney a lot of flack but she's allowed a bad day and to make some mistakes just like Marcus. I feel for everyone in that situation tbh

sarina

The first time I watched episode 7 I don’t remember blinking or breathing. The whole episode does soooo much character building and storytelling

Mo

You guys are so observant. You noticed how whatever the mood is in the kitchen it all starts with Carmy

Cristy

What I love most about this show is that it's so unpredictable, like you never know what's going to happen. Episode eight is such a great example of that. I get teary every time I watch it (and I've seen it a lot). Carmy's monologue won JAW the Emmy and it was so well deserved. All of these characters have all been through so much and it's nice to see them finally get a win. Cannot wait for season two, it is the GOAT.

JG

I think their reaction to Fishes just might be my most anticipated reaction from this crew...

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Oak: "God, I wouldn't even remember anybody's phone number to call." I felt that when he said that, I remember my mom's phone number. I know that shit by heart. That's the only one I need to remember. ❤

DTGstl314

Everyone who has seen this show all the way through knows that some of the post-show speculation about the future episodes is completely spot-on, some of it is pretty close, and some of it was just dead wrong. IYKYK.

Cristy

“If those notes were on her phone he never would have found it.” Oh MQ the man that you are, lol.

Cristy

FYI Christopher Storer and Joanna Calo are co-showrunners of The Bear but The Bear is really Chris Storer's story. Not sure if it's already been said but he had a close friend commit suicide, he's in Al-Anon, his friend owns Mr. Beef, his sister is a chef and he grew up in Park Ridge, IL.

Ryan Towell

It'll explain the money next season. And we don't know if it's all hundreds either. Can't wait for you to start next season. So good. This season just sets the stage. but enough can't be said about everyone's performances in this show. I've mentioned this before but Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ritchie) is such a great actor. First really saw him in The Punisher and he blew my mind in that show. I kept thinking who is this guy and why isn't he a big star? I know he had a lot of "bit" roles prior to The Punisher but he is one of those guys that just grabs you and brings you into his world. I know he's won some awards for his role here and has been nominated for even more. But this guy can't say enough about his acting skills.

Ste Rawlings

Mikey cut Carmy off because he was an addict and he was ashamed and didn't want Carmy to see him like that

P.A.

No, Sydney didn't know that the man she gave the risotto to is a food critic.

Aron Fellowes

Godamn I love this show so much. It makes me nostalgic for a bad time 😅 Episode 7 reminds me of my worst (and final) shift in the kitchen which was Christmas day 2021. Me and the head chef where doing prep until 4am and came in at 8am to find everyone had called in sick, so it was just me and the him. We had around 300 people in from 12pm for a 3 course Christmas dinner. I had already handed my notice in and Christmas day was always going to be my last shift, but I remember finishing that day and all of this weight and stress and tension just evaporating knowing I would never have to go through anything like that again!
