I just want to let you guys know how glad I am to have found your channel. I’m 22 and suffering from multiple chronic illnesses. Basically the only thing I can do is watch TV. Your channel in particular has brought me joy and lots of laughs on even the worst of days. Thank you so much for being you and for the awesome content you provide, I can’t express how appreciated it is 🤍

Mo

Love episode 3 and getting to see Sydney try all that food! And getting some advice on working with a partner 😬 Carmy needs to lock in

Z

As a 26 year old with a chronic illness also, I relate to “only being able to watch tv” also, as I did that in my childhood when my condition was really bad. Even now when I don’t have the energy, I can still watch tv and it brings me joy, like their reactions.

Jess

I’m sorry you can relate, wishing you the best :)

Mo

This! She just wants him to communicate. They are supposed to be partners she’s going 6 months with no pay like him!! but they need to put that in writing

Badd Medicine

I do believe we mentioned this in the review. Or at least I thought we did. 🤙

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Ritchie with his daughter was great—I was wondering if we were going to see more of that, and Mason Quinn saying "aww" and him laughing at him saying it had me dying.

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Come on, Carmy. You could have told her the truth of why you gave her that fake number; communication is key. you didnt have to do sidney like that

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

"Let's forget about Carmy; let's focus on the sandwich." Bro, I was thinking the same thing. Omg, when i saw her bite into that breakfast sandwich, my mouth was watering.🤤

Badd Medicine

Thank you for your support and kind words. Sorry to see that. We hope everything is going as well as it can. Glad that we are able to bring some joy to your day. 🙏

2x3: Clarification for MQ - Claire is not Carmy's ex. A lot of the shots of Chicago in this episode were there to show some of Syd's inspiration in designing dishes - the shapes and designs of the facades of the buildings are reflected in the shapes of some of the food elements and dishes she imagines creating. After the day Sydney's had - stood up by Carmy, getting so many people in the business giving advice/telling stories that resonated with the fact that Carmy ditched her - is it a partnership or isn't it? - to get to the restaurant and find that something big was done entirely without her is what made her upset that she wasn't included even though obviously it had to be done regardless of whether she was informed beforehand or not. It was more about her insecurity about their partnership than the fact that the wall had to come down. The guy you were saying you thought you were supposed to know is Donnie Madia, who owns the restaurant (Avec) that they were in. i don't think you're supposed to know who he is, so much as just recognize that he's a Chicago restauranteur. BTW next time you're down Chicago way, definitely drop in at Margie's Candies and get that sundae Syd had - it's all made in house, down to the hot fudge that comes in a gravy boat. Just one of the many reasons I love calling Chicago my home.

In defense of my girl syd in episode three she is a partner in this new restaurant. She’s making the same sacrifices as carmy going without pay while everyone else is still getting paid during this, making her a partner was carmy’s decsion. We see that she’s been texting him and trying to get in contact with him all day and he hasn’t said a word then she stops by the restaurant and she’s not like upset the walls had to come down but he should’ve let her know like hey things are crazy here we had to take the wall out so don’t freak out when you see it. And syd is also extra in her head because of her dad’s comments and what all the other chefs she talked to were saying to her this episode.

For the Marcus bike situation, I definitely think Oak was on point in saying you’re supposed to feel a bit uneasy about a potential race issue; he’s a Black man in a foreign country, doesn’t speak the language, etc. and the situation definitely could’ve gone worse. But I also think it’s meant to highlight Luca’s advice about spending time in the real world and prioritizing both the time in the kitchen, but also having experiences outside of work also. And with the guilt that Marcus already expressed about leaving his mom behind, it also showcases how it was the right place and the right time for him to be there and save that person. If he hadn’t been there, who knows if anyone else would’ve stumbled upon that man and saved him. And Marcus is feeling helpless in the situation with his mom’s health, so being in a position to actually be helpful and save someone (and to get that grateful hug afterwards, even with the language barrier) can make that hurt a little less. But I’m with you, Diamond Dave, the score in that scene had me on edge in the worst way!

I wouldn't say it's the best iconic childhood glow-up, but Will Poulter, man, is definitely up there; man, he looks so hot for his age in this show. He's 32? No way.

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Marcus and that man he saved, and he gave him a hug after. Man, that is how good this show is—that it make a swerve like that such a beautiful moment

Honeydew is easily one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. It's so great and such a nice, calm, relaxing episode in a sea of anxiety-inducing episodes.

Counting down the days to the 2x6 fishes reaction. Master class in acting

Jaylennn

are yall still doing 2 episodes next week cuz ep 6 is like an hour long

Jaylennn

awesome, cant wait :)

Al-Anon typically offers a ton of meetings at different locations every day. Carmy was at an Al-Anon meeting, just not the same one you remember from his monologue in last season's finale.

DTGstl314

The show is set in spring 2023 in this season - the restaurants closing due to COVID are likely the ones that tried to hang on but just got hit so hard they finally had to call it quits, even though it's been a few years since the start of the pandemic in the show's chronology.

MarisoL

I think Syd was a more annoyed about being stood up by Carm than the actual walls but the advice/comments from everyone she talked to that day was getting in her head, feeling insecure about their partnership.

DTGstl314

The grey haired guy with the scarf isn't an actor - his name is Donnie Madia, he's a well known restaurateur in Chicago, and that scene was filmed in one of his restaurants, avec (styled in all lowercase letters). Sydney is a former employee of Donnie's, which you know because when you see her resume in the pilot episode, one of the restaurants listed is avec. Her resume also indicated she had worked at Alinea, which is a one of only two restaurants in Chicago with three Michelin stars (and one of only 16 in the entire country).

Jeff K.

Meanwhile I’m counting down to Forks, which is easily my favorite episode of the show’s entire run so far.

Jeff K.

Getting to the end discussion, with the fellow chef that was the MJ to Luca's Pippen and Mason Quinn saying he was waiting for the reveal that it was Carmy: it WAS Carmy. (I don't consider this a spoiler since it's never directly addressed and is in no way an actual plot point, it's just something you pick up on through context clues starting with 2x3 when Carmy mentions having connections in Copenhagen as he and Syd talk about sending Marcus somewhere to stage.)

ias

God, I cant wait for next week

DTGstl314

It's never been established that Claire was Carmy's ex - that's an assumption you made, MQ. All that we know at this point is that they've known each other since they were little kids and there's obvious romantic chemistry there.

DTGstl314

I kind of assumed it was Carmy as well when I first watched this episode, but it feels like it gets confirmed in a later episode with a picture on the wall.

DTGstl314

Yep. So much happens in the episode you're referring to, and the most "Woah!" thing about it is a thing I can't say without spoiling it.

DTGstl314

She's a partner, but at this point in the show they haven't really established what exactly that means. At the onset of the series, the restaurant is co-owned by Carmy and Sugar (she almost lost her house over unpaid taxes because she's legally an owner), but then there's the massive cash infusion Jimmy gave which obviously gives him a partnership stake. When Syd is asked what her partner share is by her chef friend, she seems thrown off by the question because she doesn't really fully know what her role is at this point. It's a conversation that she and Carmy have not yet had.

DTGstl314

Carmy definitely gave her a fake number on purpose. How would you possibly mess up your own phone number? It was in part because Carmy's not good at accepting good things in his life, but also because part of him just didn't think he had the time to commit to getting involved with Claire. But he obviously likes her.

Cristy

Most of the restaurants in this episode are real with the exception of Verdana French Bistro, where Sydney talked with the female chef. Syd had breakfast at Kasama and then met the butcher, Rob Levitt, at Publican Quality Meats. Rob is the real life head butcher and chef de cuisine there. Since you asked, the white haired guy Syd talks to is Donnie Madia and they're at avec (West Loop). Donnie once worked at Mr. Beef and borrowed money from Joseph Zucchero (the original owner of Mr. Beef) to start his first restaurant, Blackbird. Donnie is co-founder of One Off Hospitality which owns several Chicago restaurants. Syd got pizza at Pizza Lobo, dumplings at Lao Peng You, and a sundae from Margie's Candies. I love how this show highlights and celebrates the local food scene in Chicago.

Karissa M

Exactly this. Everything in this show has a purpose no matter how big or small the tell is, so was hoping for their reaction later on to the scene you’re referring to. It’s subtle, but still more of that “aha” type confirmation than what’s been presented so far.

ct

He did Syd so wrong this episode, it irked me bad!! Glad she got to try some amazing food to (somewhat) make up for it though 😙 I swear, carmys lack of communication will be the death of him

Cristy

And to think I almost recommended Adventures in Babysitting this month, lol. The fact you guys recognised it just from the song is awesome. They also played Beat City in episode 6 of season 1 which is from another Chicago movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. All of the odes to Chicago in this show are just chefs kiss.

Ana

I feel like it gets confirmed with a flashback in a later season of Carmy doing something in a kitchen and Luca trying to keep up (trying to be vague not to ruin the whole scene lol)

Ana

I travel to Chicago frequently for work, avec is my favorite restaurant. I take clients there, go there solo, I love it. Chicago has the best and biggest selection of different foods close to me. I only live about 2 hours away and will drive there just to have lunch or dinner and then drive back home

Ana

Random but love the Scout hoodie Oak!

Ron Fatica

What a balancing act between those two episodes, and the name Forks, is frankly...... chef's kiss!

Kare

Marcus/Luca <-- I ship it!

Ron Fatica

Actually, Europeans are usually much more comfortable with Black men. Just sayin'

mon._.mon

loved the reaction as always but, I gotta ask Oak where he got the AOT hoodie from!

ZuZu

Will Poulter was such an amazing addition, even just for one episode. Also, you guys really need to react to Warfare. Great movie, great cast, and he's incredible in it.

ZuZu

Yup. During the world wars, American soldiers were shown training films about how it was normal overseas for Black people to be allowed in the same places white people were, so don't be alarmed. Racism still exists there, but in general they're far more advanced and inclusive than the US, and have been for a long time.

ZuZu

So many people don't like chains in general. But come on, if they sucked they wouldn't exist! They're perfect for people like me who don't need anything sophisticated.

DTGstl314

Totally agree with your point about communication being the main issue, but I don't think it's accurate to say Syd has experience building a restaurant from the ground up. She started a catering business that she was operating out of her dad's garage. Of course that takes quite a bit of work and there's probably a bunch of red tape involved, but I don't think it's nearly as big of an undertaking as actually building out and opening a physical brick-and-mortar restaurant.

DTGstl314

I think it's probably safe to assume that all the food Syd was eating wasn't actually being paid for by Syd, but rather put on a business credit card as an R&D expense - she almost certainly spent well over $100 for all that food, maybe even $200 (she goes to a LOT of restaurants). Donnie possibly comped her meal at avec since she used to work for him and they're friends, but no way did she get all the food she tried that day for free. Fairly sure she didn't actually eat most of it, because that would have been a massive amount of food for one person in one day.

Isaiah

i understood where syd was coming from bc it wasn’t really about the walls, like yea they obviously needed to come down but it’s the fact you bailed on me, lowkey ignored me the whole day and then your making big decisions without me when were supposed to be partners.

Ryan Towell

European Vacation episode it's a really good one.
