Well, you have to remember, he's not a skilled fighter, so I didn't expect for him to just whoop his ass; it was going to take him a while with a skilled fighter. But man, Mason Quinn is right; he was taking those hits and fighting dirty and not giving up. I love that he fights dirty, and even though he is not very skilled, he makes it work and looks badass.

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Shit, I would have been fighting dirty too. I would be biting, scratching, hitting him in the nuts, etc. 😂

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

I remember Mason Quinn saying this on God of War Ragnarok Part 35; it really spoke to me, this episode. “Part of battle is being able to take hits.” “It’s not about how hard you get hit; it’s about how many times you keep getting up after you get hit.” Damn right it is, MQ. i feel that. 🤘😂

One of the best episodes in the entire series, no notes. Shi-eun's words at the end really messed me up with so much guilt and grief (for friendship broken because of stupid fights). I also have to say that while villains in The Glory were all pretty disgusting, pathetic people, Seong Je as a villain is entertaining and we love to hate him (you're right, Mason, K-dramas do villains very well lol), but strangely there's some level of respect for him (only regarding him as a fighter, mind you; of course, he's despicable guy in general): I disagree about Seong Je being arrogant, that's not the reason why he threw away Shi-eun's pen and why the whole time he fighted Shi-eun without any support group; to me he seems a weird combo of a truly lost in his own madness person (that unforgettable laughter after being beaten up) and a strict fighter who wants to win fair and square instead of cheap tricks or dirty play. It's very interesting to me that they depicted him this way: before him every enemy was dishonest - just remember how Soo-ho lost the fight in the ring because of unfair involvement from people outside the ring and that MMA fighter was totally okay with that. Seong Je is definitely a crazy character, but he has his own set of rules for fighting. Fascinating character, and Lee Jun-young played him perfectly (no wonder he was nominated for Blue Dragon awards - South Korean film and TV award - for this performance).

I think the fights in schools talk is interesting. I went to a private school in NY and we didn’t really fight inside the school buuut outside - away from the school it was common. Even fighting other schools, including public school students. During my time there I remember the police being involved maybe two or three times though.

I will also say we did really dumb things as kids. We were straight assholes, I’ll own up to that

I love how you guys are invested into this show. Oh Oak lol. Your curiosity is valid and I want to touch base on it. Just like anywhere else, fighting in school is very common and there are all types of parents that would react differently to their kids fighting. There are dads that would say "did you at least get in a blow" or the over-protective ones, or ones that don't tolerate it at all. As for the school gang-level violence, of course it wouldn't be acceptable to any normal parent lol no matter what culture they're from. Unless their relationship with their kid is at the point of parents giving up on their trouble-maker kid which is probably the case for almost all of the kids in the Union, or they just have no idea. Also want to add that I'm not entirely sure what some ppl have been telling you guys but from what I've seen there will be some ppl in the comments that don't know the actual culture aside from what they've only learned through watching k-dramas trying to feed reactors information on the Korean culture when they didn't even grow up in the country lol. While some K-dramas do use some real-life references like how The Glory used the curling iron incident from many years ago it doesn't make it a common incident or "part of the culture". Just like any other TV show, even if some k-dramas are meant to be a social commentary they're not always entirely real and can be exaggerated haha. Yes, hierarchy is a big part of the culture, and school violence is real, like anywhere else - just won't always be the same form of school violence if that makes sense. Just know that while there are cultural differences, people are ultimately people with the same human instincts no matter where they're from.

Park is not a part of Seong-je's name. His family/last name is Geum. The only character with Park in their name is Baku (Park Hu-min). So you'll either have to call Seong-je by Seong-je (his first/given name), Geum (his family/last name), or maybe "jay"? Since you call Baek-jin just "jin". 😄 hope this helps!

I have to ask... is it just me or so much in this show seems BL coded??? (I love it, not a criticism btw 😄) For those who don't know, BL refers to fiction (originally in Japanese manga) with gay or borderline gay male relationships. (Before someone comes at me, I'm not saying this or that character is *actually* gay, just that it is very easy to read as a possible BL, whether on purpose or not)

Aria Isara

Just out of curiosity, who are you fav Kdrama actors? How many kdramas have you seen? I started watching them a year ago but I still have a lot to discover. I've seen around 30.

Aria Isara

At some point during the fight I said out loud "bite him!" 😅

Ashley K

😂 no it’s not BL

Aria Isara

Ashley... did you read my comment up to the end? I didn't ask if it *was* a BL, obviously officially it's not...

aureo

you're onto something, you just have to hear what the cast has to say about this matter ;))

Ashley K

My bad! I must've misread your initial comment. But I wasn't coming at you at all :)

Lauren

Season 1 got me invested and broke my heart; Season 2 healed me.

Rena Unnie

Now he gotta fix his foot and glasses lol. Si Eun is indeed a little stabber.

Since you guys love the intro song so much, there's 2 bands I think you'd enjoy called Hyukoh & Se So Neon. These two bands are GOLDEN. Check out The Wave by Se So Neon. That guitar solo is so so sooo good, especially live. Anyways, I've been waiting for y'all to get to episode 4, so I'm excited to watch this. <33

I have not seen that many yet, I also discovered Kdramas only last year. I liked When Life Gives You Tangerines and Extraordinary Attorney Woo and I hope that BM soon or later will get to these examples of Korean excellence in storytelling. It goes without saying that I loved every Kdrama BM watched so far. My fave Kdrama actors are Gong Yoo (Train to Busan, Squid Game, The Trunk), Park Bo-gum (When Life Gives You Tangerines), Lee Do-hyun (The Glory, Sweet Home), and, of course, Park Ji-hoon from Weak Hero. But I never met a bad actor/actress in Kdramas, the entire ensemble in each of them worthy of recognition.

I went to high school in Korea for about 2 years so I feel like I can answer some of your questions! Yes, fights are way more common than in the US (the education/socio-economic system puts kids under a lot of stress). And because these fights in schools are more normalized, adults/law enforcement take it less seriously. In general, there is more of a hierarchy in everything, including academics, sports, and fighting. Most schools have students who are known to be the top fighter and you shouldn't mess with them. Not even necessarily because they are good fighters, but just because people don't want any trouble. It is important to mention that although school fights/gangs are more common than the US, it doesn't mean very extreme incidents are common. Of course, there are serious cases that happen occasionally, but they are just as frequent as the US. The only difference is that the US has school shootings rather than extreme bullying.

Kaitlyn O'Hare

I went to public school in WA and it was the same. There were in-school fights but for the most part people would just meet up off-campus to avoid being written up or suspended.

Jenn Matsuoka

Well... in the comic everyone at school thought Sieun and Sushi were dating. The whole story is very BL coded indeed without being explicit.

Would you guys ever consider watching this interview? https://youtu.be/XixkTyJQkiU?si=-HSZlE8LKPpAM2dt its the director and the cast. Its famous in the community for the director saying suho was sieuns "first love", it also adds a lot of context to certain scenes that might've seemed out of place and gave a lot of information about the thought process behind small things, like Easter eggs and such! Overall its super fun though a little long :)

Do you also watch BM's reactions to Indian movies? I've been into Indian content way longer than Korean content (over 15 years) and I've always loved the acting performances too in Indian movies, as well as the stories of course. Funnily enough I started getting into Korean stuff in 2008 but also discovered Indian stuff around the same time and got totally into it, so only got back to Korean content in 2024 😅
