Emily Blunt was really chasing that Best Supporting Actress in this

The Rock can do no wrong. 😂🤘 He crushed this film I mean those real serious tense scenes—man, he is such a good actor.

Man, those tense moments with Emily Blunt and the Rock were so awesome; they kept me on the edge of my seat. They crushed it

This was better than I expected. Even better the 2nd watch. Hope Rock gets the Oscar. A24 hits with the dramas. You guys are in for a show whenever you get around to Euphoria.

Does anyone have the time stamp for what they give their answers? I want to see their answers before I watch the movie for myself

We didn't give this a score since it is a true story. We all said we would recommend it to those who would be interested in seeing this. 🤙

Pain and Gain is a great film to watch if you wanna see The Rock really do some good acting. Also the movie was better than I expected and felt pretty quick. But I'm suprised the studio expected the film to do huge numbers at the box office. This to me was a good watch at home drama. Unless they expected it to make money just off The Rock name itself since alot of people aren't familiar with who Mark Kerr is.

Totally agree on A24 nailing it with their dramas. Euphoria is great, hopefully they can get to it when the new season is released! Also just want to add that Waves (2019) is another one of their movies that hits hard in the realm of drama/sports/family. I know it probably won’t get as many votes on the website but just thought I’d spotlight it since they’re watching more of the A24 catalog!

My husband and I were just talking about this. The person and subject matter is really niché. Unless you know who Mark Kerr is or have followed MMA from the beginning, your only other draw to the movie really is the actors. I’m sure people who are fans of A24 will probably watch it regardless, but they were probably banking on the Rock, and the hype generated from the film festival circuit to sell it, and it’s just not.

The Smashing Machine pulls back the curtain on a sport that was never glamorous to begin with—a world that markets itself almost entirely on authenticity. Yet Benny Safdie’s documentarian approach, built on fragmented snapshots from a passage in Mark Kerr’s life, never fully connected me to the man’s struggles or to his eventual acceptance and triumph. Safdie forces us into Kerr’s personal space, but somehow the emotional bridge never forms. The film didn’t evoke any sense of inspiration, but my central frustration lies with its final line: “This is Mark Kerr.” After two hours, my understanding of him feels almost unchanged. I can recount the events of his life and the kind of man he appears to be, but what made him that way remains opaque. And then there’s the casting of Emily Blunt. With an actress of her calibre, the film feels obligated to capitalize on her presence—but instead, her dynamic performance inadvertently derails the story from its true focus. Too much time is spent depicting a relationship that plays more like a harness around a horse’s neck, restraining the film rather than enriching it. Though this is in no way a critique or a judgement, my main takeaway is that this endeavour seemed designed to showcase Dwayne Johnson’s calibre as an actor in a career marked largely by repetition. And to his credit, he made me forget I was watching The Rock. 2.5 Answers
