So Tired

11:53 When it comes to Vecna taking a total of 12 kids, I believe he’s doing the same thing he did to Will, giving them powers and basically creating an army. Remember at 1:16:14 Vecna said " why I chose them to reshape the world? Because they are weak." So basically similarly to Pennywise in the sense how it's much easier for them to control and manipulate kids. I also think that back in Season 1, when El was running away, the same thing could have happened to her just like the other kids. But instead, the Demogorgon took Will, and the only reason he escaped was because he kept singing his favorite song, “Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash, to himself in the Upside Down. It’s similar to how Max would have been able to escape by listening to her favorite song in Season 4 ep 4.

BiggestOttoFan

In 4x7 El beat Henry using the power of her love for her mother. Her love overpowered his hate. In this episode Will overpowers the Hive Mind using his love for Mike, Joyce and Jonathan. Love has always been the key to stopping Vecna. Will told Mike that he was the heart and Mike stepped back into the leader role. Mike told Will that he was a Sorcerer and that pushed him to take control of the Hive Mind. They've both inspired the other to be the best versions of themselves. And I have a feeling Will's love for Mike is going to play a big part in volume 2 and the finale.

DKMT Show

My one problem is that I didn't like how Miss Wheeler broken wine glass did more damage to the monster than the army with automatics gun did.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Fun fact, the teacher on the school bus (and the playground when Holly was talking to Vecna), is the real life drama teacher that the Duffer brothers had. They gave her a small part in ST because they credit her for helping them to become who they are. I think it's really sweet.

So Tired

Have anyone noticed that it has been 8 years since Stranger Things season 2 was released? The same season where they introduce El sister, Kali and we get the reveal of El's sister this season, who is 008? It can't be a coincidence right? 👀 El powers = The Hands Kali powers = The Mind Will powers = The Eyes

PhatBoySteven

I cant be the only one who thought Vecna looked like groot walking out of that gate 😭

Alex

So when he's talking about driving through the gate, I expected Oak to say "You're not thinking 4th dimensionally. When you get up to speed you'll instantly be transported back to 1885 and those Indians won't even be there!"

Kickinthescience

Vecna came through like Vader and Will looks like Harry Potter and had his Harry Potter moment

alesha

Regarding the cave, check out Stranger Things: The First Shadow (the canon prequel play)

Jeff K.

Had the same thought. Leave it to us Iggles fans to come to the same conclusions.

Elena

There are so many Harry potter similarities when you look back, it's insane !

Elena

Will is basically a horcrux, like Harry Potter.

Joshua Johnson

Demogorgons have always been bulletproof though and they’ve always been able to be damaged by fire or sharp objects. Demodogs on the other hand can’t handle gunshots and can be killed by them.

Ally

To me the strongest message in Robin’s speech to Will is when she says that the healing he’s looking for cannot come from someone else. It has to come from himself. You can’t be healed, be accepted or loved if you don’t love and accept yourself first. We can’t look for that in others. We’re free only if it comes from ourselves. Then whatever people are gonna think it won’t matter. And we won’t be scared anymore. And I think it’s so powerful.

Alex

I like this style of cuts to different storylines. I remember hating it in season 4 when I'm waiting for you guys to find out that Vecna is One. But after rewatching The Walking Dead, the Stranger Things way of doing it is way better than TWD where an episode end and you think Glenn is dead, and then there's 4 episodes of other stories before you get back to Glenn. etc. TWD does this SO MUCH, it's annoying. I saw Mason said Groot when Vecna killed the one guy with arm tentacles but to me Vecna seems very inspired by the Tyrant from Resident Evil. The Tyrant has the larger left claw like that, and the other creatures from RE2 or RE3 (can't remember) that can launch their limbs like that stretching out and peircing through people.. The Umbrella guy from the RE2 or 3 movie (can't remember) does that to kill the one guy who questions him about betraying Wesker.

ElmSt Reactions

That was some episode and what an ending. I dont like the way they have Steve acting to dustin this season and the part with the truck, I've seen one do alot worse and stay on its wheels lol

Ally

I also think it was a good point that maybe the fact that Robin came in later gives a different point of view, especially when it comes to Will. For everyone else that knew him from the beginning, he’s always been this fragile creature that needed to be protected. But Robin doesn’t see him that way. She makes him feel a resource, that he can help and doesn’t have to hide the whole time. And I like how when Joyce is talking about “delightful Derek” says sometimes people just need someone to believe in them and they can do amazing things. Cause to me it’s actually what happened with Will. Robin believed in him and he started to do amazing things.

patrick

Man I wish I had a Robin when I was growing up. Her speech, no matter how many time I hear it, never fails to make me cry. So powerful🥲🩷 That ending was so crazy. And I LOVED your reaction to it, especially Oaks! Also, not gonna lie but Will looked kinda hot there at the end lmao Christmas really can't come soon enough 😩

roz

exactly!! the fact that they showed mike being the first person saved from a demodog and then they show mike's reaction to will's powers first, before even joyce is so interesting! "you're the heart" - i mean! and that being not long after will is testing the waters right before they dig up into mac-z. i'm so intrigued for how love will play out for kali/eight as we know so little about her backstory comparatively, but it certainly appears to be the driving force for their powers in the most intense moments/standoffs.

DKMT Show

Ok, that make sense now.

autumn

All of the reveals in this episode and season have been amazing!! I can’t wait to learn more about Henry’s past. I’m trying to decide if I’ll watch the play or if I want to be surprised when vol 2 is released. Alsooo I am SURE Holly the Heroic is going to be important in the following episodes. Ughhhhh Christmas needs to get here nowww

MarisoL

I've always rooted for Will, he's been through a lot so seeing him like this at the end was so gratifying! LFG!!!

MarisoL

Yep, and that's what worries me about his future. If Vecna is killed I don't know how he can disconnect or come back from that.

diamond frazier

I hear The rock and the high school scene is explained more in the stranger things play which the duffer brothers said will play apart in this season.

thefatfurret

Am I the only one who doesn’t think this season has been that great

Badd Medicine

I think there might be some others. What didn't connect with you so far in these first 4 episodes?

diamond frazier

Is there a way to watch that on a streaming platform

thefatfurret

It’s more so been a running gripe, for me it doesn’t feel like the stakes are there bc they’ve only killed off characters they introduce that season. For example, it doesn’t really make sense to me why the wheelers parents werent just killed when the demogorgons had no problem sliming out all the military. So I feel like we just have too many characters at this point who are there bc we like them but don’t serve any specific plot purpose like in the earlier seasons

elena

This is Will's season and I'm so here for it

bethannie

i also saw someone mention that you need to think of the fights in D&D terms. so think along the lines of Karen rolling a nat 20 for that attack. and then she has Holly, who Will has made a cleric, in her party boosting her attack with magic 😃

enyo96

Man I am loving this new season! I'm so glad Will finally gets his moment

Lauren

So I read that the memories that unlocked Will’s power were the same memories that his mom and friends were telling him when he was under the Mindflayer’s influence in Season 2. Such an awesome detail!

Lauren

I also have a theory that Henry relates to Will because they may be similar…I remember the dad saying Henry was a “sensitive boy” and “different,” and maybe that is somehow related to the cave memory.

Steven W

Rewatching the last 10 min like 10 times rn 😂😂😂

Esther K

Fun Fact: Akers plays Dr. Brenner on the stage performance of the play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow on Broadway ... which btw is canon to the tv series. Saw it twice. The play is like watching the show live. Special effects are magical.

Tyler Daigle

I like the idea that Vecna taunted Will on purpose and put him in a traumatic situation that could unlock his powers, and Will chaneling Vecna’s powers is somehow a step in his bigger plan

Mister Lou

What did Joyce tell Will again? "You can't save the world if you get the sniffles"? And the last thing we see is Will wiping his nose? Epic!

Cristy

This episode was an absolute cinematic experience, especially that last scene. Absolutely freaking epic. Also, how badass does Vecna look now?

MJ Eid

The only thing i really dont like is demagorgan biology doesnt make sense. Hopper blew away a demo dog with a 9mm shot to the head, then he went on to chop off 1s arm and head with a sword, and karen wheeler severly injured one so much it was "slowing down and bleeding alot." But hundreds of bullets and a 50 cal do nothing....come on. Thats the only thing ive never liked about these creatures.

Aprille Morris-Butler

The play is canon to the show, the way Henry's presence at school is explained is that, Papa would allow Henry out (to school and events) before he realized JUST how dangerous he is.

Ailene Evangelista

Will being the heart of this show, literally the reason the plot begins, and yet he was seemingly sidelined and underestimated by fans, often described as weak and useless...to seeing him step into his power and unlocking what was always inside him? Damn, that's some good shit! Absolutely eating his character arc up, and I'm incredibly moved by what the writers are doing there. I'm so excited to see how the story progresses in v2. Volume 1 was awesome, I LOVED every minute. Praying Stranger Things really sticks that landing... it's completely deserving of being called one of the best shows ever made.

Maisie

woahhh that last point about Will singing his favorite song to himself blew my mind. I never made that connection before!

Ginger

The stage play explains the cave that Vecna is too scared to go in. The memory scene where Max walked in the high school where she saw a teen Joyce was taken from the play. The Duffers are behind the play, so the play is a background story for the Netflix series. If you want to understand what these episodes haven’t explained, you can read the plot at Wikipedia… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stranger_Things:_The_First_Shadow

I'm Batman

I was thinking the same thing as well

I'm Batman

Man, what a mid season finale. To have Will finally get some love by the show runners is awesome and long overdue. As for Henry's memory and the cave, someone already mentioned this but I suspect the same thing, I believe Henry and Will are alike in a certain way. Henry's dad explaining him being sensitive and "different" was a huge clue on his difference from all the other boys. But man, perfect episode. Great reaction guys. Got no idea what the cave is all about, guess it's in a play but I'm not gonna check any of it out because I wanna witness these final episodes 100% completely blind. I don't want any lore behind it or anything so I don't start to speculate and potentially spoil myself.

Steven Jump

I was so eager to see you guys reaction to this ep and you didn't disappoint! I hope Will will be able to use his new powers from now on and Vecna can't end up controlling Will. I need to point out that the rift between Steve and Dustin is a 2 way street. Dustin has been a real DICK to Steve this season. Always putting him down. Steve is just giving it right back to Dusty. I hope we get more Dr Kay's story and he connection what's happening in Hawkins. I had hoped that they would have given Will a possible love interest this season, I know some fans what him with Mike, but I doubt that's going to happen. Plus it would piss off the El & Mike fanbase which wouldn't be a good idea. Waiting till Xmas for more eps is going to be torture!!

Jan T

I think Robin made a powerful point to Will, that just as she had to stop looking for validation for her identity from Tammy, and accept herself for who she is, Will needs to do the same with Mike and be true to himself on his own terms without the validation he thought he needed from Mike. I also hope they do introduce a potential love interest for Will before the end of the season. I’m sure Dustin and Steve will reconcile at some point. I just hope it’s soon. I hate seeing them at odds.

Jeremy Burch

I loved the scene with Will and Robin, I also loved the ending with Will. But one question that was in the back of my head the whole time was, what's up with Derek's family? Last we saw them, they were all in the barn with hoods over their head, are they still there. It's been, based on the day and night changes, close to 2 days at least. Is anyone checking on them, did we at least give them water? Also, is Tina good, because that needle really shouldn't go in the neck like that.

Steven Jump

Dustin and Steve fighting is the only sour note of the season so far.

Brittney Alvarez

Great reaction! I got chills when Will was finally able to tap into his power. So awesome. So the part with the cave and the memory with Joyce in high school are all parts of Henry’s past that were revealed in the First Shadow play on Broadway which the Duffer’s said is canon - if any of you have the chance to come see it in NYC at some point you definitely should it’s great. If you look at the school playbill you’ll see some familiar names of characters we know on there including Henry. Seems like they will dive into it more in the show but if you want you can probably look up someone on YouTube or reels explaining what happens in the play.

Eboe Thrasher

Jan, you are right on target on what she's doing for Will regarding his relationship with Mike.

Eboe Thrasher

I think that the writers tried to include a lot of what fans have complained about in the story... Will being weak and useless, they had Vecna call him that, and as a result, he became more powerful. Fans mocked him having a bowlcut and he made fun of it to Robin. Fans didn't like the Sisters episode so they are showing how 8 can factor into the story and actually contribute something and be important.

Eboe Thrasher

Maybe they level up over time? Perhaps Henry was more able to be involved in driving them for that purpose right at that time, whereas at other times, he had other things to do at the time?

Eboe Thrasher

Who isn't serving any plot point? Also, who do you want killed in the first 4 episodes? Nobody gets killed that fast who is not a brand new character to that season. Any characters that mean something to the show are killed later on in the season. And who says that people have to die? That isn't a rule. The stakes are saving everything and everybody, preventing Vecna from taking more children to fulfill his plan. Which is clearly related to a clock, 12 kids.

Eboe Thrasher

Dustin has flat out lied about what happened to him rather than just be honest with his friends who are there for him no matter what. I get that he is hurting but pushing away assistance isn't gonna help him.

ElmSt Reactions

That is in no way an excuse for the way Steve is being towards him, its like they've turned him into a younger brat

thefatfurret

yea what i said is all my personal preference. im not saying anyone needs to die but considering everything theyve been through it wouldve been more impactful for me if some from the original cast throughout the seasons besides new characters added that season to be killed off. i think at least comparing to season 1 the characters had more defined arcs and with so many to keep track of i dont think everyone is as fleshed out. just my 2 cents

Xoe Miller

*In regard to the rock wall* Answer: “He (Vecna) probably fell off and hurt himself.” Mason Quinn: 🤨🤨🤨 “It’s VECNA. He probably pushed his best friend off this cliff or something.” I’m dying😂😂😂 Great reaction!

Kai

late to the party but THANK YOU!! So tired of everyone always calling out Steve like Dustin hasn't been an ass too, and I'm talking before Eddie died. Dustin got close to Eddie in S4 and I immediately clocked the difference in how he treated Steve (which, honestly is kind of interesting considering Eddie's stance on jocks and Steve being a former jock, but I digress). I understand that Dustin is still grieving but to be this hostile a year and a half later to the guy who has consistently had your back and been a friend.... I get why Steve snaps here and in vol 2
