Perfect timing. Also: watched episode 6 last night, and I think it's my favorite episode so far. I've been enjoying the show but for some reason, I hadn't felt "hooked" until watching last night's episode. I'm all in on this show now, and for more reasons than just, "Rhea Seehorn is the absolute best."

I really hope it's not people - that's been done several times (as you guys mentioned both Soylent Green and To Serve Man) - the only thing that makes me think it's not people is that it took Carol a span of time to recognize what she found - if it was obviously people she would have had an instantaneous reaction to what she was looking at. Of course, I could be wrong, but I hope not.

Jeff K.

By the way: Vince didn’t tell Rhea beforehand that it was going to be Patrick Fabian’s voice on the recording. Those two and Odenkirk lived together while filming BCS and are incredibly close (Odenkirk basically says they’re the reason his heart attack didn’t kill him), so Vince liked the idea of having Patrick completely catch her off guard and surprise her to get a great reaction the first time she heard it and realized it was him.

With that ending, I'm thinking about watching it ahead but I know I can't watch it without my guys. I really hope it's not human because that would be kind of basic with how this show has been going; it has to be something other than humans.

“To Serve Man” … GREAT reference from the Answer 🔥🙌

Jeff K.

Loved that when they said it. I don't know why, exactly, but for some reason I didn't peg the guys as the types to pull classic old school Simpsons references out of nowhere.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

That's a Twilight Zone reference - "To Serve Man" is a famous episode of The Twilight Zone - it aired in 1962. The Simpsons parodied it.

Jeff K.

Oh I know, but the quotes they were throwing out were directly from that Treehouse of Horror episode, so that’s why I went with Simpsons.

I'm on the "They're telegraphing it being humans too hard, so it's gonna be something else" side of the fence. Especially since Carol was confused at first and didn't realize what she was seeing. if it was a dead body she would have clocked it quicker. So I'm not saying it's impossible that it's people, but I'm not convinced. I didn't put the pieces together until I saw somebody else say it, but the physical work Carol puts in to protect Helen's grave by hauling around all those pavers with her bare hands the entire day, and then the emotional work she puts in by painting a gravestone for her, both contrast to the inhuman way the Hivemind seems to be treating their dead (Even without going into 'people=food'). We saw the Hivemind stack them in a truck to (presumably) bury in a mass grave somewhere. Nothing more than public sanitation, it was industrial and uncaring. Carol BURIED Helen and MOURNED her, which is a very human thing to do. We have indications of funeral rites from pre-modern humans going back hundreds of thousands of years. it is one of THE base indicators of civilization, and one of the points that people argue about when we stopped being "animals" and started being "people". if the Hivemind have lost that, it's another indication that they're no longer human.

I'm genuinely scared to start the next episode 😭

Knightmare

My guess is synthetic glowing alien embryos LOL.

MarisoL

I'm not sure why Carol was being petty by just not ignoring the wolves going through her trash? Once it comes Helen ok but trash?

Jeff K.

I mean, it makes sense to me. When you allow them to just chill in your yard, you’re essentially allowing predators to basically mark territory in your home/personal space. If you want to ever leave your house, why would you want to just let very dangerous animals lay claim by not challenging them as they try to move into the immediate area?

Jeff K.

The next episode is fantastic, and a super fun episode. Go ahead and start it. It's my favorite of the season.

Katie

I wish I could binge ahead but I don’t have apple tv. Can’t wait for the next episode. What a great show. Glad I started it with you all

Karina Alarcon

Next episode is amazing, about what Carol saw, we had a hint in episode 2 in the first scene with Zosia 👀

Ryan Holmes

Arthur Morgan? That's a legendary pull

Aria Isara

What Jeff said makes sense but I think it's also just Carol's personality. She's a Karen lol

Aria Isara

Yeah but with 900 million dead tbh you wouldn't be able to do normal rituals. You'd probably just lump corpses and cremate. As to the Joined, it's really just one consciousness inhabiting different bodies at the same time, with no individuality, so mourning wouldn't make sense for "them", as it's more of an "it".

Aria Isara

Also there has been human cultures who eat the dead, you can't claim they're not human. In high school we were taught about one, it might have been in Oceania, where they ate the elders who passed away as they thought it's a way to absorb their wisdom.

Alex

What I'm thinking is what if the wolves are part of the hive mind. I think you guys forgot that the rats in the first episode were the first to have the virus and it worked with them.. They shook a lot and then they woke up and first thing they did was spread it. So it works on animals which would mean that the animals are part of the hive mind, at least the ones that are infected.
