I'm very much looking forward to seeing y'all's reaction to who's dating Richie's ex (not gonna say the actor here so as not to spoil it for the people watching along for the first time). Also, from episode 3 when they're talking about Orwellian butter from Vermont, that's a real thing, from a real dairy (Animal Farm Dairy in Orwell, Vermont - a town I've never heard of despite living the first 18 years of my life in Vermont), and I'm SO curious to try it to see if it really is that good. It's supposedly, essentially, the best butter in the world. Which is why Carmy insists on using it. Also not surprised Mason Quinn immediately went to "Wisconsin is the best" in the episode, given Vermont is basically a mini-Wisconsin combined with a mini-Canada.

AllyBoo124

When oak said “nicotine gum” in the review I actually burst out laughing, seeing y’all get stressed is just so relatable to how I felt watching this show

AllyBoo124

3x3 might be my favorite or one of favorite episodes from season 3 personally. It’s shit beautifully, the music, the dialogue, i still quote so many of the funny lines from this episode randomly throughout my day

AllyBoo124

3x3 as sugar says though it’s not so much the issue of changing the menu everyday but carmy is buying super expensive shit and using it once and then it eventually goes bad and they have to throw it out, like you can obviously use the same ingredients in different variations or iterations but he’s not using the stuff soon enough. So it’s becoming extremely wasteful and cutting into the budget because then they have to but completely new things again. And also my poor baby syd😭 she’s doing her best trying to handle carmy and handle carmy and Richie. Such a fun episode

AllyBoo124

Y’all have no idea how much I look forward to your near reactions every week, and a trip to the real beef and a vlog would be so so fun!

Cristy

Best day of the week! To say I'm excited for 3x6 next time is an understatement, my fave episode of the season.

Cristy

Carmy's expectations are unrealistic, this isn’t The French Laundry and most of the staff have no experience in fine dining. Also, you can’t get a star if you’re not open because you bought too much ‘dystopian’ butter, lol. I love the "show don't tell" approach used in ep 3. I think actually seeing what's happening is so much more informing than having the characters tell us about what's going on in the restaurant.

Jeff K.

Such a great episode, with probably my favorite needle drop of the entire series. (So as not to spoil it for the guys, I'll just say it's a song with one of the best music videos in history.)

Dylan Hearts

Richie's reaction to "Auntee DD coming to the wedding" was pretty hilarious lmao His comedic delivery always so on point, Ebon Moss-Bachrach is easily the MVP!

Jeff K.

With Oak talking about going to Chicago to check out a fine dining restaurant: Ever, the restaurant where Richie went to work in Forks, is a real place, and they actually did shoot in the real restaurant. (Obviously, the real chef isn't Oscar winner Olivia Colman.)

Jeff K.

Also glad y'all appreciate my guy Pete, and after hearing Quinn refer to him as the MVP, I think I'm just gonna go ahead and refer to him as MVPete from now on.

I think Oak is right on the money with his opinion of Carmy modeling the kind of behavior in a CDC that he hated working for. And we know from ep 1 of this season that Carmy trained under many different leadership/teaching styles, but whenever he is stressed or overwhelmed, he defaults into that hard to please, barking orders type of leader. And it’s really modeled in the scene where he is yelling at Tina for taking too long and then transitions to watching Sydney teach Tina how to cook and plate the dish while running expo and she is calm, patient, and is able to help Tina lock in and get the food out when his way wasn’t working

Ste Rawlings

On Oak's point about everyone changing but Carmy. Season 2 was largely about Carmy helping all the people around him and putting them in a place to level up professionally. Now we're seeing that he himself also needs to make changes to succeed.

Ste Rawlings

Guys when thinking about the "it didn't hurt yet" line it's worth considering the glimpse we've had into Carmy's family life and also the fact that his brother killed himself. And also the reason Carmy gets so stressed over serving people food and can't switch it off when he gets home isn't simply because he loves serving people food.

Mason Quinn: "I feel like richie gonna become the MVP." What are you talking about? He already is! As soon as he put on that suit, he became an upper-class badass. He always had it inside him; he just needed to unlock it and forks showed us that. 😂🤘

Katie

idk oak kinda makes it hard to watch the rest of the reactions to this show

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

"What grows together goes together" is a very common saying in cooking, whether it's home cooking or restaurant. The flavors of ingredients that come from the same terrain/temperature/weather tend to taste good together.

Aubrey

You know Oak is stressed when the eyebrows come out! Ultimately, Diamond Dave is right--this team is not ready. What really frustrates me is that this is all self-imposed. Sure, they have a responsibility to Uncle Jimmy, but the rest is all Carmy. Are they unable to create a 5 year business plan to get them to a Michelin star? Could they not do a monthly or quarterly menu to allow the newer chefs to hone their skills? Heck, how long did Marcus spend learning to properly place a slivered hazelnut or whatever the heck it was? The interest is clearly there from the public. Why not scale it back, increase the profit margins, allow the staff to grow their confidence and skill, and then shoot for the stars (literally)? They can still deliver excellence, they can still deliver experience. Practice like you play, right? Mission, vision, values, baby. They must have them to create the bones of the legacy they want to build. It doesn't matter what kind of talent you possess, toxic culture and bad business practices will kill a business faster than anything. And then what? What will Carmy do with a crap reputation, a bad attitude, and total alienation from his friends and family?

DTGstl314

I thought S2 was largely about Carmy getting distracted by a new relationship and leaving the people at the restaurant to largely fend for themselves. Just to be clear, I'm not one of the anti-Claire people. I think she's great, and I think she could be great for Carmy, if he could only learn how to practice balance between his work life and personal life. I don't hate Carmy, but if there is an antihero in S3, it's him, without question. He said himself that he still hasn't really dealt with Mikey's suicide in a healthy way when he was talking to Marcus about Marcus's mom's passing in Ep2.

DTGstl314

Head's up, it ain't cheap... the tasting menu is $325 per person and the wine pairing is another $195 per person (or $345 per person if you want the premium wine pairing). Non-alcoholic beverage pairing is $115 per person. A couple dining there with the regular wine pairing is gonna spend right around $1,200 after you factor in tax and gratuity.

DTGstl314

3x8 was my favorite, but 3x6 is a close second. And while 3x5 isn't quite on par with those episodes, I'm very much looking forward to this crew's reaction to a very specific reveal in the episode (IYKYK).

DTGstl314

The extent to which it is about changing the menu everyday is that it leads to a lot more food waste, because if you're only serving a particular item once that week, there's a good chance the excess that they bought to ensure they had enough is going to wind up in the trash. When you maintain the same menu for at least a week or a month or a quarter, there is a lot less waste. You can also buy your perishable ingredients in larger quantities, which will lower the price of those ingredients on a volume discount.

DTGstl314

The premium butter at that specific creamery, when it's available, sells for $60/lb. It is used at both Per Se in New York City and The French Laundry in Yountville, CA, both three Michelin-starred restaurants owned by Thomas Keller, one of the most famous fine dining chefs in the world. https://saxelbycheese.com/products/animal-farm-butter?variant=31137435680823 It's currently unavailable, but the website says they should have some in stock on December 19th, which presumably will sell out immediately. The current average price for run-of-the-mill grocery store butter is about $4.80 per pound, so the dystopian 1984 butter is insanely expensive relatively speaking.

DTGstl314

Ep3 takes place over the course of several weeks. For reference, Sugar indicated that she was two months away from having a kid in S3E2, and by S3E4, she's only two weeks away, which means at least six weeks have passed since the beginning of the season and where we are in the timeline at the beginning of the fourth episode.

Cristy

3x8 is my second fave hehe. Yeah, the guy's reaction to 3x5 will be one to watch.

Knightmare

Carmy has been terrible these past few episodes my god 😭 love seeing more of the other character's lives due to this thought I won't lie

DTGstl314

Woah... I just discovered that Edwin Lee Gibson, the actor who plays Ebraheim, is not in fact a Somali (I also just discovered that "Somalian" is not the correct word to describe people from Somalia). Gibson was born and raised in Houston, Texas and has no noticeable accent when speaking in his natural voice. He plays Ebra so convincingly that I just assumed the actor had to be a Somali immigrant.

DTGstl314

Yes, Adam Shapiro was the chef in S2E7 (Forks) who came out and yelled at the entire Ever staff about the smudge on a plate, and then ended his rant with "Now get back to work. Fuck you, Garrett!" We also see him in the first episode of this season working in the kitchen at Ever alongside Carmy and Luca. The actor who plays Adam Shapiro is named... Adam Shapiro (he is an actual actor and not a chef).

Anaïs

his accent is amazing wow
