Can't decide which I'm more excited about: 3x6, which IMO is the best episode of this season, or meeting another certain Fak brother in 3x5. I mean, assuming you can actually see him.

Jeff K.

I can’t decide if I was more shocked when he popped up in this, or Pluribus. I was definitely giddy for both though!

Jeff K.

Oh and also: if you guys have ever watched Rounders or Ocean’s 13 or Runaway Jury, or the TV series Billions, the guy who plays Computer is one of the writers for all of those. He’s big in the podcast world too, he’s part of The Ringer’s podcast network. He’s also produced a bunch of stuff including some 30 For 30 stuff for ESPN.

Mathilde

Sammy feels too natural of a Fak to be adopted, this man has their sweet chaos in his DNA!

Badd Medicine

I say that in a fun manner 🤜🤛 their banter was great

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

When I realized you'd be seeing this episode in the same timeframe as the Pluribus episode, and a few other things this year, I was so amused at how much John Cena you were getting in 2025!

So Tired

Man I was not expecting John Cena to appear on this show 😂😭😭

Jeff K.

Just watching 3x6 now, not sure if y’all look it up in the post episode discussion but Tina’s husband in this is David Zayas, who is most famous for playing Angel Batista on the show Dexter. He’s also Liza Colon-Zayas’s (Tina’s) real life husband.

Cristy

"If you f**k with Marcus I will kill you." The relationship between Nat and Marcus is so underrated, I loved that scene between them. I knew you'd enjoy the John Cena cameo. The regular cast had all good things to say about working with him. Matty Matheson (Neil Fak) said he showed up really prepared and never looked at a script on set. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Richie) said he read a medical book between takes and "has a serious brain on him."

Cristy

Agreed! 3x6 is definitely the best episode of the season. A Tina episode was long overdue.

Jeff K.

Oh and one more comment and I swear I’m done: the “Sabotage” needle drop in 3x6 is hands down my favorite needle drop of the entire show so far. I mean, it helps that I am an unabashed stan for the Beasties, but still. And the conversation between T and Mikey is one of my favorite things this show has ever done. Bernthal just absolutely bringing the heat in that scene.

Jeff K.

I remember reading that interview with Ebon talking about Cena. And yep - not just like, general knowledge books. Like actual medical textbooks, just for fun.

DTGstl314

Did you guys catch who directed episode 3x6 in the closing credits? Our girl Sydney (Ayo Edebiri).

Cristy

I love love love 3x6, it's such a tearjerker for me. That scene between Mikey and Tina is one of the best in the whole show (and I'm glad Liza won the Emmy). We found out so much about Tina and also Mikey which was an added bonus. Watching 3x6 definitely puts Tina's behaviour in the first few episodes of the show in a new light too. Ayo directed the sh*t out of this one, girl is multi talented. It was decided in Season 2 that Ayo would direct an upcoming episode and because she had no scenes in Fishes, she shadowed Chris Storer during the filming of that episode. This was her first time directing and she joined the Directors Guild of America and took some of the courses they offer in order to prepare. She also received an Emmy nom for directing the episode.

DTGstl314

Yep, Brian Koppelman. He was actually the creator of Billions. Also, the two dudes working the counter at The Beef with Richie in 3x6 both come from the restaurant world, more specifically, the sandwich shop world. The short dude with the heavy Chicago accent is Chris Zucchero, the real life owner of Mr. Beef in Chicago who has already appeared on the show a few times (and will appear again) and had never acted in anything before this show - he and show creator Chris Storer have been friends since they were in kindergarten together. The taller dude with the neck tattoos is Paulie James, who owns a really popular sandwich place in Los Angeles called "Uncle Paulie's Deli" - a lot of Hollywood celebrities frequent the place. James has brought Zucchero out to Cali a few times to do popup events at his sandwich shop to sell Italian beef sandwiches, and whenever they do one the line is a mile long.

Jeff K.

Totally forgot to include his name. Oops! And yep, Chi-Chi is the real life Richie, basically. And the guys keep saying they wanna go to Chicago and get an Italian beef, they’ve GOTTA go to Mr. Beef. There’s a solid chance they’d see him there if they do.

DTGstl314

Yeah, you can definitely pick up on the fact that the affection between them on screen wasn't just acting.

3x6 hit home. I was a baker for years, and a month and a half ago I got fired. The store changed the system for bakers and it gave us a lot more work but ZERO extra time to do it, so I'd been working off the clock to make sure I got everything done. So they found out and fired me. I sent out 15 applications and the ONLY place that responded was Target, so now I'm back in retail. 44 years old and now I'm working with mostly 20 somethings. I feel like a massive loser because I have all this experience and I'm starting at the bottom,AGAIN.

DTGstl314

This show is like a Mt. Rushmore of big name cameo appearances. There's one we'll meet down the road in S4 who I won't say much about, but when you see them first appear it will definitely pull at your heartstrings a lot (IYKYK).

LilithCain

I've never realized before now that their names are Neil Geoff Fak, Theodore Geoff Fak, and Samuel Geoff Fak.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

You are not a loser and you are not alone. I'm older too and job-searching, and it is simply a different planet compared to what it was when we were younger. And they don't want us, no matter how much experience we have.

DTGstl314

I don't think the issue with the restaurant is that people don't want fine dining (the place is pretty packed every night), it's that Carmy is so adamant with his "change the menu every day" game plan that he's lost sight of the fact that it's costing them a fortune and is extremely inefficient economically, because they're wasting a ton of very expensive food items. They showed him messing around with that pork roast dish (I think it was pork?) and just tossing it in the trash when he would get stuck on how to plate it. He's basically operating the restaurant as if he has an unlimited budget and doesn't need to worry about product waste.

DTGstl314

Ironically, the Emmy Liza-Colon Zayas won was for S2, not S3. The timing of the show's release every year in late June puts it just outside the current year's Emmy eligibility window (June 1st - May 31st), so when Emmy nominations are announced each summer, it's for the season that was released the previous summer. The Emmys in which S3 was eligible were held this past September, and the S4 Emmys will take place next September, even though S5 will probably already have been released by then (assuming they continue the late June release schedule). Better Call Saul intentionally split its final season into two parts so that the first half released in May would qualify for that year's Emmys and the second half released in July would qualify for the next year's Emmys, even though there was only a six week break between the two parts.

Oak nailed it when talking about Mikey and how episodes like 3x6 really make you miss him as a character, knowing the way he went out and how much of a hole that left in everyone's hearts. It's bittersweet whenever Jon Bernthal is back because even if it's for just one episode a season, he does such an amazing job at giving you a glimpse of Mikey through different lenses, and in this case, Tina's perspective through their incredible conversation. Even though it shows Mikey's more positive characteristics by taking the time to talk with her, you can really see the layers of hurt/disappointment he might have had in his life turning out the way that it did, not knowing exactly what to do or finding his so called ‘purpose’ while also being totally self-aware and still making the most of the situation at The Beef. Definitely one of my favourite episodes of the entire show.

Jeff K.

Yep. Was gonna say something about the season four one but didn’t wanna risk accidentally spoiling anything by even hinting at it, so I very much appreciate your phrasing on that. I had honestly kinda forgotten that person was in season four until very recently. Legend.

3x6 has hit me so hard as well… for the past 6-7 months I’ve been working a typical office job, just boring, nothing special, and also not much work to do, felt completely useless and pointless there. This job also was one of the reasons I got deeply depressed recently. But last month I got an opportunity to go back to hospitality. A company contacted me directly and said they wanted me. Actually wanted me! I was needed! And also it’s a job I really enjoyed in the past, so I know what I’m signing up for. It took me a bit to think about it but I accepted, starting next month. It’s challenging, but also very exciting. Not my dream job, but I feel like I can make a difference and feel needed there.

Annie Baylin

I cried towards the end, the conversation with Mikey and Tina. I've been in Tina's shoes so many times, man. Those scenes of her looking for a job hit me like a ton of bricks.

Knightmare

It's crazy how provable competence is treated in the job market. 15 years of accounting at a legitimate company is more than enough time to prove you can be a secretarial accountant without the degree. Unless there are extraneous new legal practices she needs to learn, she should be qualified enough to do it again at another place. Insane! Loved seeing John Cena as a Fak. I really think we need a Fak episode to make the main Faks more endearing though 😂

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Fucking John Cena, I literally almost throw my computer laughing when i saw him because I couldn't believe it. 😂🤘

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Oh my god, getting john cena was one thing but getting another episode with John Bernthal—I'm literally losing my shit right now. These two episodes were so epic😂🤘

DTGstl314

I had to think very carefully on how to write that without giving anything away to the folks who haven't seen it yet. But everyone who has seen S4 knows exactly who I'm talking about.

mdl

Also fun fact: the actors who play Tina and her husband (Angel from Dexter) are married in real life 😀

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Now when you think about it, it really makes since why tina didnt really like sydney in the beginning, saying she's a kid she doesn't know what it takes and how tina has been there for how many years.

Ste Rawlings

My favourite thing about this episode is we learn that Carmy's perspective of Mikey isn't always necessarily accurate. He says in his monologue at one of his meetings "He was loud. And he was hilarious. And he had this amazing ability. He could just, he could walk into a room, and he could take the temperature of it instantly. You know, he could just, he could dial it." But in this episode we see he's initially uncomfortable and doesn't know what to do about Tina when she's crying. Obviously he absolutely nails the situation eventually but Carmy always speaks as if being a people person and making others feel good about themselves came easily to Michael. Here we see that's not the case, it's something he had to work at and not ignore or run away from when he felt uncomfortable or was unsure what to do. Something Carmy will need to figure out how to do himself if he's to make progress.

DTGstl314

Can't wait for your reactions next week, with what I think was another one of the best episodes this season, and like Napkins, it is very focused on a particular character (two characters, really).

Aubrey

"This place f-ing sucks. It's insane, and there's so much f-ing yelling here, but there are days when, I swear to you, it is so much fun" sounds exactly like me trying to make sure someone reallyyy understands what they're getting into before I hire them. I think we've all been Tina, but I also have a 22 yo daughter that graduated magna cum laude in May who's navigating the workforce for the first time. Holy cow, you could not pay me to be that age again. It's rough. I've been in my career field for 26 1/2 years. I've been the youngest in the room, I've been the only female in the room, I've been the only single mom in the room--I know how to work my tail off. So when I say that the workforce our young adults are entering into is not the same as what we or our parents experienced, it's an honest assessment of the monster I helped to create. It cannot sustain the American Dream. That's the reality of it. I literally don't know a single person who isn't fighting apathy, regardless of age, where they work, or how long they've been there, and this episode captures that in every single scene with such raw clarity that it's kinda hard to watch.

Ryan Towell

Man, this Tina episode I've seen this before when it first came out and watching it again.. Serious panic attack/anxiety.. Spent about 12 years going through that. Horrible. Thank God every day for my job. Side note Tina's husband in this you might recognize him from Dexter and he's been in many shows. But he is the real life husband of Liza Colon-Zayas (Tina).
