Badd Medicine

Hello folks! If you’re using the watch-along option, we recommend watching with us on Disney+ or using the uncut versions to avoid the new commercial breaks they’ve added. Right now, the best way to watch along with us is on Disney+. Our options are pretty limited when it comes to working around those inserted ad breaks, but hopefully this helps you choose the smoothest way to watch.

Let's gooooo!

Jeff K.

I don’t know why, but during the opening title sequence, when Oak was getting incredulous toward Mason and looked to Answer for backup, Quinn’s delivery of “He’s doing the drums!” while Answer is doing air drums absolutely killed me.

LaLa

WOW! Spoiling us with this early drop. 🥰

Ads

I would definitely say this is the weakest of the episodes. So if you still enjoyed this episode you'll love the rest.

Gem

Ha no - to 'get off with someone' still means to have sex 😂

Chris B

For sure, all uphill from here.

carrot

On the UK versions we don't have any hard cuts to black screen/commercial breaks throughout the episodes as the BBC dosen't have adverts. It'd be better.. maybe to sorce the UK versions as it flows better when watching.. less distracting!

ZuZu

Appreciate the advice on that! It's not on Disney+ in Canada so I'm stuck with Prime, with ads, which makes it interesting. But I'm nothing if not adaptable, and I'm getting really good at syncing it up after every ad break, lol.

HYYHwithNesh

Everyone hates this episode but I loved it!

Lauren

Most of the episodes are based off of the original stories. I do agree that this episode is the weakest of this season, if not the entire series. I think you will really enjoy the next one. And season 2 gets even better.

Lauren

Absolutely! This episode is one I usually skip on a rewatch.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

Definitely the worst episode of S1, pretty much for what you said (and one or two other issues), but you've got next week to look forward to big time!

Shannon

Where I’m from it’s always meant kissing/making out..maybe it’s a regional thing? 😅 (South West UK)

Jeff K.

I feel like it's a testament to how much the show - in my mind - went downhill starting during season two (there's one episode based on probably the most famous Sherlock story that I found supremely disappointing, personally), that you're dead right this is the weakest of season one but it'd be arguably the best of both seasons three and four (again, just my personal taste).

Jeff K.

It was the same when it aired in the States originally, too (which makes sense since it aired on both PBS and BBC America, so with PBS in particular, obviously there were no commercials; can't remember if there were any on BBC America but I don't believe so).

Isaura avalon

This is definitely my least favorite episode and one I don't watch back when im in a sherlock mood. It'll get more fun from here on out and more with a general storyline woven in. Can't wait for the next one! (Trying not to binge watch it again now but waiting a week is torture lol)

Jecxxy

Well I think the episode 2 of each season are not that great.

CallingCollins

This is my new favorite thing to watch you guys react to

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

I have a... complicated relationship with this show. I'm trying to keep all comments either positive or neutral - it's a shame we can't do direct messaging on Patreon with other members.

Zoe S

Yeah it’s weird that it's hard cutting like that, in the uk people pay a TV liscence for the BBC channels, so it doesn’t have commercials (or as we call them “adverts”) so not totally sure why the hard cuts are appearing since Sherlock didn’t have adverts when it was broadcast🤔

Zoe S

Hi, loving the Sherlock reactions😁 I agree that the second ep wasn’t as good as the first and although I have rewatched a few times (since I love the series) this one hasn’t been as many times as others but still a fun watch and especially fun watching with Badd Medicine😁 want to reassure that there are others that have more of first ep vibe😁 also about the book… I was thinking maybe it was a book all from China or those not originally from London would have since they weren’t locals they wouldn’t know know their way around, so that was why all involved had a copy of it possibly wasn’t exactly a book everyone would have but one that people who weren’t originally from London would ( I guessed Sherlock noticed it when he saw the tourists with it) I don’t know but that’s kinda what I took from it when I first watched lol 😊

gen

While I think this episode is weak, I wouldn’t say it’s the weakest in the entire series. There are definitely others lol without giving too much away

Lauren

I think I know which one you’re talking about!

Gem

It might be regional! I'm from the South East. I guess when I was a teenager I would say it meant kissing etc, but if an adult says it, I assume they mean sex.

Alina B

I love all the episodes from the first two seasons. This episode is based on the novellas: The Sign of the Four, The Adventure of the Dancing Men, and The Valley of Fear.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

They're inserted for broadcast on American channels and streamers that do have commercials. When it was originally broadcast in the US, it didn't have those breaks - they were added after.

Jane Avery

MQ I tend to agree with you on tech things but I LOVE self checkout! "Even the escalators go the wrong way." 😂 ahh Oak This ep is very loosely based on "The Adventure of the Dancing Men" For me, this is the worst ep so I'm glad it's over and I'm so excited to get into the rest!

Tobias Keezy

The cop who arrests Watson for the graffiti plays Laenor Velaryon in House of the Dragon

Kary lit et mijote

I liked your reaction ! Like many others who commented, I think this episode is the weakest of the whole show. The next ones (plural) are PHENOMENAL. Enjoy! :) Can't wait!

BecauseBeca

Don’t worry. In my opinion, this episode is one of the weakest in the series which says a lot as it’s still a great episode. From here, I think every episode is excellent.

Isaura avalon

Haha yep, I found the strength to not skip ahead today. Here's hoping I won't watch tomorrow🫡🫣

Zoe S

Same although will admit I've rewatched all eps (apart from this one and a couple of others) hundreds of times😁 I tend to rewatch eps they won’t be reacting to for awhile 😁 Just love the Sherlock so much😁

Zoe S

Ahhh right k, I messaged saying if it was possible to do, maybe try downloading the episode and then do the reaction on the downloaded version offline since in theory it shouldn’t be able to add the commercials (or adverts as we call them in the uk) if it's not connected to an internet source, don’t know if it'll work but could be worth a try😊

Alex

The blonde woman with the hair pin "Amanda" was Cumberbatch's girlfriend at the time

Mari

I love this series but this is also my least favorite episode out of all the episodes in all seasons total.

ImaKatPerson

Re: the double racking of the slide: it’s Britain, they know jack shit about firearms lmao.

YuviOnPatreon

Yeah this episode was weaker, but the 3rd episode more than makes up for it!

YuviOnPatreon

Oh my GOD the PHONEBOOK THING! Yes, it's like someone planned for it to be the book (having it outside Soo's building, Sherlock saying "not a lot of Van Coons in the phone book") and then forgot about it. This episode is all over the place with the script, it's like the first and second episodes were written by 2 different people! The dialogue is less sophisticated, lots of information dumps, a LOT of explaning things the characters already know (Sherlock saying "we need to split up so we can find information" instead of just "you take this side, I'll go there", Soo pouring her whole life story like it's a soap opera) and the entire first half moving at a glacial pace story-wise, a lot of scenes feeling "accidentally helpful" instead of having a good explanation for why they even happened. This felt less like a mystery and more like a "oh look the information we needed is conveniently found in this object I just stumbled upon!" Ugh

YuviOnPatreon

Okay I checked. This episode was written by a different guy, who did not write anymore for the show after it. Ep 1 was Steven Moffat, Ep 2 was Steve Thompson, then after that Mark Gatiss (Mycroft) or Steven Moffat, or both.

TallTyrionLannister

Weakest episode of the next few seasons. But still fun. The next handful are all BANGERS

Fenland Ringo

Not a Londoner so happy to be corrected but as a Brit who STILL owns a London A-Z, I would say yes: In 2010, absolutely everyone would have one if they lived in or ever visited London. Just like everyone used keep a road atlas in the car. Look at the phones they are using to take photos with. Smart phones with Google maps were not common place. Even if you lived in London you are not going to know every nook and cranny.

Megan

My biggest issue is the continuity. Sherlock can fight and we saw that in the beginning. Yet he gets strangled twice and not only can't get out of it...but doesn't even try. Even if we pretended he couldn't fight, he'd at least know basic maneuvers to get out of it. Being super knowledgeable/quick witted is his schtick. Secondly, they're this big bad Chinese syndicate yet they got Holmes and Watson mixed up. They heard the "ticket for two" but not the rest of that convo? Watson didn't have an ID in his wallet? No one verified anything?

Megan

I can see why that dude wasn't brought back. The set up was so interesting and then after the title card, it was a different episode. Halfway through I was like wait, what about the woman with the teapot because now we're dealing with a bank. It felt like they filmed 4 different stories then threw them together in this episode.

Saphthings

Me, a left handed person that shoots with my right lol

Tina

I think I've seen the A-Z in every London household I've ever been in. By 2010, phone books not so much.
