been waiting for this one!

Pratish aka Pratley

I can’t wait for next week personally I think it’s the best episode of the series!

Hey folks, you guys just watched The Parent Trap. The bald guy on the secret government panel at the beginning is played by Martin Kunz, who played the butler Martin in The Parent Trap.

Its alllll gonna make sense guys, just hold on🙂🤭

That one and the last one for me! :D

iirc, Martin and Amanda (Mary) were going through (or had just gone through) a divorce at that time. I always assumed the episode ending (trying to keep spoiler free) was linked to the off-screen relationship breakdown.

When John said “you made a vow” to Sherlock, he really was talking to himself. He betrayed his own vow. By the way, the original story is based on The Six Napoleons, and the reveal WAS the Black Pearl of the Borgias.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

I don't think you need to withhold any plot points from this episode in the comments section for the episode, but yes, they split up (not a divorce -- never married) before filming of 4th season began.

if you remember in the initial episodes, John had a lot of girlfriends and in a short period of time too, also would mix them up and flirt with the women who came to pick him up in the jaguar (easier cause thats his weekness). so the flirting and texting the ginger women (E) was unfortunate but not really out of character, i would say. its just that we forget how he was in the first season!

The first time I watched it, it upset me too but overtime rewatching it I see all the previous relationships as signs😂

I've hated John for years for what he did to Mary. I haven't seen these episodes since they came out, and I must admit I don't feel as angry as I did toward him, but I'm deeply sad because Mary died never knowing. Even if there was nothing physical going on, John still emotionally cheated...and then him blaming Sherlock for breaking his vow when he did the same. Honestly, if and when Sherlock finds out what he did, I think he would be angry on Mary's behalf. Mary died in the books. I just hate that it came in the same episode as their child's birth. It would have been fun to see her a little longer and see them as parents.

I just LOVE your reactions to our terms for stuff, yep we call Popsicles "Ice Lolly" in UK there's a slogan "often licked never beaten" if ya buy them from an ice cream van hehe ;) & agree, Ginger Biscuits are the BEST! especially with a nice cup of tea, LOVED all the expressions on your faces when "Dragon Slayer" & smug look Quinn gives Oak when "Memory Stick" is mentioned hehe & 'lip biting' banter gave a cheeky giggle ;) With the amount of fake outs we've had on this show so far (especially with Sherlocks 'death') not convinced if Mary truly gone, poor John has been through enough grief, thought he lost his best friend & now his wife, also agree with you that was out of character regarding woman on bus, it started so randomly/stopped so quickly is what made it jarring too & the plot certainly thickens with Mary, be interesting seeing how it all unravels in the next few episodes.

Uhhh...GUYS! Is it just me or did they miss the SUPER important after credit scene!?!

Everything in this season is intense and intentional.

Mari

This is the first time I'm rewatching this since 2017. I'm one of the many who didn't like it very much. Idk if I'm ready now.

Brandon Reacts

Yes. And they also talk over quite important sentences (I know it’s a reaction channel, but I like the fact Quinn realises this and says like ‘oh that’s samara’ or whatever to assure the audience he is actually listening 🤣

Mason is forgetting Sherlock is based on a story by Doyle. So Moriarty dies on Reichenbach in the story, so Moriarty died in the Reichenbach episode of this series. So is Mary dying the story, so Mary died here as well. It is based on a story. I accepted it as it is. On the other hand, I did notice there was few scenes of Benedict and Martin together and if there was, it didnt last long. I believe this was filmed in 2016, at the time where so many things has happened between Martin and Benedict and Martin and Amanda.

There was a reason to be angry at Sherlock -- the reason why I was/am still angry at him, and it wasn't breaking the promise to keep them safe. It was Sherlock being so full of himself, so sure, so confident that he made Vivian angry and unpredictable, hence him asking Mrs. Hudson to say "Norbury" if he ever gets cocky like that again. And though a valid reason, John wasn't really there to see it/know what happened. One might argue he knew Sherlock enough to assume or he was told, but.. seems a stretch to me. That is the only reason I would accept for John to be angry.

If there’s one thing us Brits do well, it’s a crime drama - once Sherlock is finished I’d love to see you guys react to Line Of Duty, Happy Valley, Broadchurch or The Fall

In Conan Doyle's stories, Mary dies of illness and Watson returns to Baker Street. I don't know why they killed Mary in the series. The producers clearly love the novel The Sign of the Four - elements of it appear in every season, as in this episode. For this episode, the writers also used the short stories The Adventure of the Six Napoleons (in which a black Borgia pearl was found in a bust of Napoleon) and The Adventure of the Yellow Face (in which Sherlock was wrong in his conclusions and asked Watson to remind him of this case if Watson felt that Holmes was either relying too much on his abilities or not investigating a mystery thoroughly enough). I did not like the storyline with John's affair at all.

It’s not out of character for John, he is addicted to action. The domesticity of fatherhood and being a husband was boring him. Remember that boredom sent him looking for trouble in a drug den before. He’s like Sherlock that way.
