I knew that you, guys, would love the heck out of this movie just because how chaotic and eventful (lol) it is. DD should have been there! But personally I can't join your high scores cause despite having awesome acting (Chalamet, A'zion, Paltrow, O'Leary) and great techs (music, editing, costumes) I dislike main character so much that it stopped from fully enjoying the story. Marty Mauser often says despicable things which even from 1950s POV should be perceived as offensive and gross (pulling the card "I'm a Jew so I'm allowed to joke about the concentration camps" was so cringe and off-putting, and it just one example). Telling the woman which he got pregnant that he has a purpose in life, and she doesn't maybe wouldn't make such negative reaction in the 1950s (where women obviously weren't considered as human beings enough in comparison with their abusive husbands and the whole patriarchjy status), but it made me angry and sorry for Rachel who simply doesn't know anything in her life except passive-aggressive behavior from men, and that's why she apologising to arrogant and entitled Marty who like a complete drama teenager offended by her lying to him as if never lied to her a hundred times before (continuing to deny his own parenthood in this point of the story). Like, I don't feel sorry for Marty at all, even in the end which, I think, many interpreted slightly the wrong way. Look, both things can be true: that Marty is really feeling something for Rachel and his newborn baby, and that he is not going to suddenly change for them and became a model citizen. He's still Marty Mauser, the schemer, the grifter, the loser who came back to Rachel and his child because he virtually has nothing else. The child is the only thing he ever brought in this world, it his legacy, his pride, his way to live a mark on Earth now that he's basically a failed ping-pong athlete (and I disagree with guys that the organisation will allow Marty to return and compete in the sport again, certainly not after he publicly outed said organisation for fake, staged event, he burned off these bridges, and will be a black sheep in the industry for refusing to bow his head and play by the rules as any adult would in this cruel capitalistic world). He's young so for now he'll vanish from Rachel and her baby life, will find excuses not to pay them any money; but when he gets older and older, he returns to them cause it's his child, and he'll transform into his own clingy mother that he despises so much, continue to scheme and pretend that he's in need of attention and support from his growed up child like it's a debt cause if not for Marty, this baby wouldn't appear in this world. I do not believe that Marty will be different from the ending, all these tears even if they're real, that's the tears of a narcissistic grifter who'll will exploit everyone and everything in his possession. Interesting movie, definitely not a boring one, but with an insufferable main character that I simply can't enjoy the story and root for him in any way. Good for those who can - and I'm glad that you liked the movie which means these 2,5 hours were spent well.

Wish DD was here but still great! We gotta stay in the Safdie world and get an Uncut Gems reaction 👀

fatoumata cisse

You guys have to watch Uncut Gems, it's by the Safdie brothers too. I love marty supreme but uncut gems is my personal favourite imo.

Beautiful Boy has gotta be the next Timothy flick

This was my favorite movie of last year and Timothee is my pick for the lead actor Oscar! I hope you guys will watch Call Me By Your Name soon, his performance in that film is unbelievable.

Diablos Cafe

I agree, I just voted for it on their website.

Cassandra

What about good time 👀 might be an inch better than uncut

Diablos Cafe

I took the ending the same way as Oak & Answer, I see Marty finally coming to realize with what really matters & is why he stops hiding that he’s the father and that he loves Rachel.

Maisie

I absolutely hated this movie but Chalamet was great in it. I think at the end he's crying because his dream is over.

blitzman08

Kevin O'Leary is a POS. He did act well in the movie but fuck him.

blitzman08

Uncut is better than Marty Supreme.

Matthew Glover

Yea i agree, well i wouldnt say its better because i dont like to think that way. But Good Time is incredible. Its one of those movies that grabs you by the shirt, pulls you in close and just keeps you there the entire time. Just completely suspense and tension soaked, demanding your attention and just so unique. Absolutely love that movie!

LFG! A study into a very morally - not ever dubious - corrputed, compromised character whose driving force is nothing but his ambition to be recognized - not accomplished. Yet, I was rooting for him the entire time. Timothee continues on his amazing streak - the guy never misses. He has my vote for best actor. This was my 2nd fav movie of last year.

Doe

Agree!!!

Maisie

Honestly I don’t think he was acting at all in the movie. He was good at his role because that’s who he is!

While I did enjoy the ride this movie took me on and Timothy did a FANTASTIC job. I still can't say its a better film over Sinners. Timothy definitely deserved the nominations for his performance though for sure!

I might have missed the guys discussing it, but this film was inspired by the autobiography of Marty Reisman, and Bela's story about the honey was based on Alojzy Ehrlich's real experience in Auschwitz. I'm so conflicted about this movie, in large part because the main character is just so unlikeable. There's no life lesson and the ambiguous ending leaves you feeling meh, which is kind of the point, but then you get pissed off and that is also kinda the point? It's well done, but definitely not a film I'll watch again.

Terri Cooper

I actually really enjoyed this film. I believe Marty represents people who feel driven to accomplish something. A lot of times they give up, become bitter, and feel trapped in their lives. You see many people around Marty urging him to give up and be more responsible. I believe when he beats Endo he feels he completed what he wanted which was to show he was the best. Once he reached his goal, he's no longer consumed by it. Now instead of hyper focusing on his goal he can feel his emotions and he can focus on other things, like his son.
