YEEEEEES!!! LET'S GO!🏴‍☠️

Knightmare

Sanji and Usopp are quickly becoming my fav Straw Hats

Angel

every second i see miss all sunday (purple hat cowgirl hands) in live action the more i fall in love and get excited like i cannot waitttt for more seasons omfg

bien

YAY!!!! you guys mention a lot that we get more time with these characters to get attached but it’s funny cause for me i feel more attached to them in the live action. in the anime laboon is only in two 20mins episode. the giants in 8 short episodes. they were more memorable to me in the live action.

Ginger

I don’t understand the reason why they switched it to Brogy being hurt by Mr 5. In the anime it was Dorry. But nothing in this story seems to explain a reason for the switch, unless it’s for Usopp’s benefit since he’s struggling so much with the concept of fear and bravery and developed a friendship with Brogy. Miss Goldenweek creeps me out the most out of the Baroque Works casting choices so far.

Ginger

I definitely like them a lot more in the live action than I do in the anime.

DocteurNS

You guys don't have to worry too much about missing out on secondary characters. The anime/manga is much longer, but as good as it is, it has a lot of bloat. Mostly in the form of gags, side quests and delay tactics for manufactured tension during the fights. We don't get very much more Igaram on Whiskey Peak as what we got in the live action, for exemple. Nor Smoker, Crocus, or the giants. Instead, it's more side-stuff like an extended hunting competition between Zoro and Sanji to bring down the biggest dinosaur. Navigating between islands. Or Luffy being stuck under a rock for two episodes... If anything, the live action gave us far more Smoker, Garp, Coby, Helmeppo, and Miss All Sunday as what the anime gave us early on. Miss Valentine also has a lot more to do in the live action. In the anime, she's mostly just a giggling idiot. And Mister 9, Vivi's partner... the live action actor really elevated a mostly forgettable character to a whole new level. Of course, some characters get the short end of the stick. In season 1, it was mostly poor Nojiko and the people of Kokoyashi village. But the characters they really don't have time or budget to expand on mostly just get cut out entirely. RIP Jango and Hatchan. Sad face. Anyway, rambling. But my point is, don't stress out too much about missing out on "time spent with characters" that may or may not have been in the source material.

bien

THIS. ty for taking the time to type all that lol. mr 9 stood out SO much for me here, miss valentine too. & i’m loving mr 5.

Carbon

It’s exactly that - to give Usopp better character development earlier on.

Ari

I think it’s just cuz ussop was closer to Brogy and they wanted to focus on him during this arc

hex1c

The "Semla" in this episode is a Swedish cardamom wheat bun, cut in half and filled with almond paste and whipped cream, topped with icing sugar. Invented in the mid-1500s.

Chiparoo

I really hope we get Hatchan in the future 😭

Chiparoo

Omg Miss Gildenweek is so much more creepy aged up.

TheMilkMan

Don't worry about the compression of the source material. As the manga and anime fans have said, the Netflix One Piece isn't a one to one adaptation but a retelling of the story with decades of planning, drafting, worldbuilding and foreshadowing that the anime nor the manga had. I have heard the anime has pacing issues so what we see here could be it but spanned over multiple 20 minute episodes. Mason, you may have not been attached enough to Brogy knowing him for one episode but the show has done it before, Zeff was a memorable character and he was only here for 1 and half episodes, Laboon was in one episode but live action watchers still grew attached, granted an animal character is easier to sympathise with.

Chiparoo

Oh so on the subject of the look of the dinosaurs, they did a fantastic job. And it was awesome because instead of giving us what dinosaurs would actually look like, they gave us dinosaurs that LOOK LIKE HOW ODA DRAWS DINOSAURS. Love it!

TheMilkMan

1. Usopp is more attached to him, this change gives Usopp's character more depth much much earlier than the anime. 2. The show runners have said that the actor for Brogy had a better delivery for that moment than the actor for Dorry.

Chiparoo

They treat Usopp in particular with more respect than in the source material. He was basically just for goofy laughs then, but he gets actual growth and arcs now

bien

@Chiparoo haha she’s 16 in the anime but looks 12

bien

zoro is my fav in the anime but sanji & usopp are mine in the live action. they can get too much for me in the anime. OH & i love live action buggy!!

Tania R

Princess Vivi was such a beautiful addition -- her speech really stayed with me. I love that the actress is also in Bridgerton -- she has such a warm, intelligent presence on screen. So lovely seeing her here too.

Aaron Dimech

Don't worry DD. Regarding the T-Rex, it wasn't a CGI Thing. In the Anime he got the same screen time Hahaha

Brooksie

Yh Zoro and Sanji have superhuman strength. The T-Rex means nothing to them even in the anime. I think it's more shocking for you because it is live action, so you don't have the chance to use anime logic.

Marie RammGirl

Answer doing 'martial Arts' on Quinn during intro hehe, LOVED your reactions to Luffy's "give me back my hat!" & Nami's "keep it in your pants, she's the enemy" hehe, they are portraying Sanji/Zoro's 'sibling' rivalry down to a perfect T in this Live action & visually, they got 'Number 3' spot on, I just wish he had the more flamboyant high pitched voice he had in the (dub) Anime, also all Giants have a unique/amusing laugh like that, but poor Brogy. :(

SUKUNA SIMP

can't wait for the next episode ^^

Lauren

I love how smart they are with their practical versus CGI effects. It’s so refreshing to see.

Rhanzel

What you guys aren’t understanding is that this story is not compressed whatsoever. The source material was never meant to be that long and there are a lot of things that didn’t need to be in there or were thrown in for no reason. This series is never meant to adapt the whole story, just a part of the story that’s gonna get a good conclusion. Oda the author is also not just using this as fan service, but also a rough draft to a remake of the anime, (which is also currently in the works) for the new generation of fans that want to get into the story.

Zanni

Mason Quinn really got his knickers in a twist 😂 Lmao, now I realize we probably should’ve told y’all beforehand to watch Episodes 4 and 5 back-to-back. It’s like a part 1/part 2 setup. Ep4 also clearly has a ‘to be continued’ vibe, so this particular arc hasn’t even ended yet! But y’all are huffing and puffing, jumping to conclusions already 😂 Don’t be so negative 🫶🏽

Mimi

Espescially in one piece since it's so long SPOILER and iirc it took like 400 episodes for someone to actually be dead dead (flashbacks not included).

Altariel

This early in the story the pacing wasn't really an issue yet. Little Garden gets roughly the same amount of time in the anime as it gets in the live action.

TheMilkMan

I wouldn't know I didn't watch the anime, I'm waiting for the remake though, would love to get into the original series I just don't have the time for it, heck I can barely get through two short animes I started currently.

bien

i 100% agree with DD in the discussion. it doesn’t matter if you love or feel anything for the characters introduced. they give you enough where you know what they’re about. whatever danger they run into isn’t going to wait around for you to get to know them more before offing them lol.
