Great! I really need a pick me up after work. And maybe some tears <3

Pop n Lock

Off topic from this post but you guys should react to the new Punisher trailer!

Emily G

Yay! I’ve been waiting forever for you guys to watch this! I’m so excited thank you! I highly highly suggest THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for a future musical reaction. I love the direction and cinematography by Baz Luhrmann! This movie is one of my all time favorites! I can’t wait to watch with you guys! 🎉💜

jelitaashley

we need Phantom Of The Opera next!!

Lord W.

Fellas still have a lot of catching up to do before that though 🙃

Badd Medicine

Website has been correct. Everything is good to go.

Amaia

Haven't seen this movie, so I'll be watching for the first time with you. I love Baz Luhrmann's cinematography in The Great Gatsby. I'd love a reaction to that too if any of you haven't seen it yet.

Gem

MQ egging Oak on with his lack of music knowledge is so funny. He's so exasperated and Quinn is just like 😃

Gem

I would love them to react to Phantom!!

LilithCain

Fun Fact: Audrey is played by the same actor who played Faramir. He is also in Van Helsing.

Gem

SHUT UP THAT'S NOT HIM, IS IT?!?

Jo

I love Baz Luhrmann's movies. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I just adore everything he does. Have you guys done his version of Romeo + Juliet yet? If not, it's a must see.

Megan

I'm not a huge musical fan, there's maybe 5 total I like. Moulin Rouge is one of my favorites and I only watched it because my older sister bought it, on VHS, and I got to stay up late to watch it with her. I'm not even a Nicole Kidman fan but I think she did well, for the most part, in this movie. Even with Christian (Ewan) telling us what happens in the intro, the ending still hits extremely hard. "Come What May" and "El Tango de Roxanne" are two of my favorite songs from this movie but I still listen to the soundtrack periodically. Who knew Ewan could sing? This movie has captivated me since I was 7 and that's 100% because Ewan gave his all to playing Christian! And The Duke is played by Richard Roxburgh who played Dracula in Van Helsing and the main henchman in Mission Impossible 2 (Ethan puts his face on him/he had his pinky cut by the cigar cutter). I always crack up when I rewatch this movie now that I know him from other films.

Maggie B

Christian is singing "Your Song" by Elton John in the elephant. Also, some context, there was actually an elephant structure in the courtyard of the Moulin Rouge back in the day. It was a bar and the buildings surrounding it had themed rooms to rent. So the gothic room where the Duke was staying was a real place as well!

Karina Alarcon

Appleton giving it a solid 5... amazing... I love Moulin Rouge with all my heart

Ally

I vote for a video where Mason listens and react to the Queen! I loved this movie so much and after so many years I'm still obsessed! Nicole was outstanding! Also love everything Baz does

Maria

Appleton Oak gets it 🫡 one of my favorite movies of all time ❤️💃🏻

Megan

And on the official soundtrack, David Bowie does the cover!

Ailene Evangelista

One of my favorite musicals of all time. It actually introduced me to a lot of different songs and artists cause I was only 11 when I first saw it. Your Song, Elephant Love Medley and El Tango de Roxanne just blew me away the first time I saw them. Brilliant performances by Ewan and Nicole. Love it so much.

unreliable narrator

Moulin Rouge is so fun! I went to see it on broadway this summer and Tay Diggs played the duke! it was awesome!

Tasia Barrett

I know right! It's crazy how different he looks with all that makeup! I didn't know either till someone pointed it out to me. Once I went back, though, I can see it lol.

Joonbugxx

Ahhhh Burlesque would be a great follow up to this! Christina Aguilera kills it

Crystal

I love how MQ rides for Dream Girls lolol so thought when they watched it he wouldn’t like it, but every musical after he mentions it lol

Magda Chonillo

I love Moulin Rouge! it’s honestly my favorite musical. Baz Luhrmann’s style is so unique… it’s chaotic, over-the-top, super colorful, but also so emotional. It really feels like you’re watching a live theatre show instead of a movie, and that’s what makes it so special. The way they use modern songs is just genius. “Your Song” is one of my favorites, and the Elephant Love Medley + Roxanne tango?? SO good. Also, this movie was literally nominated for multiple Oscars, so it’s kinda wild to see it get lower scores from MQ and Answer 😂 but hey, to each their own… still, Oak, I’m really glad you gave it a 5 😌✨

Angelina

This was so much fun!!! 🤩 One of my favorite movies & even saw it on Broadway. Y’all should definitely watch the clip of Aaron Tveit (Enjolras in the Les Misérables movie) as Christian singing Roxanne. Regarded as one of the top performances of this decade, if not all time.

Colleen Scott

Agreed! I have watched that clip so many times!

Colleen Scott

I remember seeing this in the theater and I had never seen anything like it! It ended and the lights came up and I just sat there, speechless. It is so wonderful and emotional, and beautiful. It’s one the reason I went to film school. I wish we had watched this like Answer did in school. I would’ve loved to write an essay on this film!

Izanne

Omg I love Moulin Rouge so much!! Baz Luhrmann is a crazy genius. As a huge Queen fan, I was so happy to see Oak get so excited about “The Show Must Go On,” which is honestly one of my favorite scenes and Queen songs. I’m a huge musical fan but Moulin Rouge will always have a special place in my heart. So happy y’all reacted to it and enjoyed it, thank you!!!

Kiss the Librarian

I've seen this so many times, but damn it always hits me

Kiss the Librarian

Yes! His theme was exploring language: Strictly Ballroom - romance in dance Romeo & Juliet - romance in words Moulin Rouge - romance in song

Aria Isara

I'm a Queen fan too! 😊 I agree that Luhrmann is a genius. This movie is a masterpiece!

Aria Isara

Not just a bar, an opium room!

Aria Isara

MQ scares me 😭😭 How could a millenial not know The Show Must Go On, it was on the radio ALL THE TIME in the early 90s, I was like 6 and I remember. Or was he sarcastic? Because I'm like Oak I can't tell at this point... Now I fully understand why Shania calls MQ "caveman" 🤣💀

Aria Isara

Anyway 😅 This is one of my absolute favourite movies (others are The Matrix, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, we def need a reaction to it, an old French classic called Children of Paradise, and also Chaplin's The Great Dictator, that's for western top favs). Happy to see the guys weren't thrown off by the intensity of the first 45 min. The Moulin Rouge was one of the first places to have electricity in Paris, and it was, well, a red windmill with a fake elephant in the courtyard with an opium room inside + provocative dances so the movie does a great job at capturing how wild that place felt for people at the time. The visuals are never gratuitous. The details in the set pieces and the lighting are incredible. I especially love how it starts all dark and gloomy when Christian begins to write but at the end when he's done blue skies are back, as if writing was therapy and cleared his mind.

Aria Isara

At the end when they do the play, Satine's song has a part that goes "chamma chamma...", it's a real Bollywood song from the 90s, here it is: https://youtu.be/1ZnPY1c3u_0?si=tgl0IT7s0XeOvKJV Lurhmann is a big Bollywood fan. At first when Toulouse says he wants the play to be set in Switzerland (he even says "exotic Swirzerland") I think it's also a reference to Bollywood because during the 80s and 90s, even the 2000s, there was a big trend of shooting at least one song of a movie, especially a romantic song, in Switzerland, because basically for the Indian audience Switzerland is indeed exotic 😅

Aria Isara

Another fun fact about all the details in this movie is that several of the MR dancers are modeled on real MR dancers of the time. The black dancer called Chocolat, the brunette called Nini (full nickname Nini Pattes en l'Air, meaning legs in the air), the chubby one (called La Môme Fromage) were all real people. And of course Toulouse is based on Toulouse Lautrec the very famous painter, but also the pianist with him is based on the real popular composer Erik Satie.

Laura

I just saw this the first time as well. I am in shambles, sobbing and crying 😭. Omg. Why did i sleep on this musical?!

Boris Kopp

Couldn't be more happy about you reacting to my favorite musical. You really made it special and so funny at times. I knew I'd be an emotional wreckage at the end but it was so worth it. Would love to see you react to Romeo & Juliet with Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio as well. It's from the same director Baz Luhrman. Again, thank you so much for this reaction and I'm happy that you all enjoyed it. ❤️

Boris Kopp

Baz Luhrman was lucky to get a reunion of two actors from Moulin Rouge for the Elvis biopic. Richard Roxburgh played Elvis's father Vernon Presley and David Wenham (Audrey) was the country singer Hank Snow.

Juley

Strictly Ballroom would be a great one to react to!

Juley

Burlesque is one of my guilty pleasures. Maybe it’s not great cinema, but Christina and Cher absolutely kill every number!

Juley

I’m gonna put in another shout out for Cabaret. I really think you guys will appreciate it. Bob Fosse, Liza Minelli, Joel Grey…you just can’t go wrong!

CapitalTrymesWithP

Seven brides for seven brothers! Great musical with a great male lead singer

Marie RammGirl

That intro with Quinn/Answer & Oak/Answer's head bopping to 'Can Can' music had me in stitches 😂 The Nirvana song was cool catchy remix & I was giggling along with Oak at this version of 'Like a Virgin' & it's always funny when Quinn gets Oak all riled up over mis guessing songs hehe, also "oh that Duke, I don't like his moustache" 🤣 well you was definitely right not to trust him with those Quinn-Stincts of yours!. First time watch for me & recognised some of these well known songs, but my favourite musical you guys have ever done is STILL DreamGirls too, don't think anything will top Eddie Murphy's 'Jimmy Got Soul' song, but an enthralling forbidden love story with a tragic ending.

Knightmare

Not even Baz Luhrmann could save this boring musical 😭 the leads (not actors) are just such nothingburgers

James

You recognised Kylie Minogue! Bonus points!

Terri Cooper

One my favorite Baz Luhrmann films. I got to see a screening of his new Elvis Concert Documentary and he was there. Someone in the back row got up and started dancing during the credits and it was Baz! He said he couldn't help himself. You can tell how much he loves music. He did a wonderful Q & A after the film. His first film Stictly Ballroom is one of my favorite feel good films. Hope you guys watch it someday.

MadBone127

Wait, Audrey is Faramir?? No way. I didn't know that. Now I have to go back to the beginning of this film to look closely at those opening scenes!

Sammy

I absolutely love this movie ❤️🎵 And I feel you, Oak 🫂 I once went to a Hans Zimmer concert with a friend who doesn't watch movies and while I was feeling the orchestra in every part of my body and seeing the scenes of the movies in front of my eyes, my friend was just sitting there nonchalantly and clueless most of the time 🙈

Bella H

I feel like Across the Universe would be right up Oaks alley.

Bella H

He really picked up on the song right away. The music had barely even begun as Harold said his first line, and yet Oak was all over it. I rewatched that bit of the reaction a few times because I loved it.

Mari

I believe this was the first musical that I watched so it's one of my favorite. I'm so amazed with Ewan's voice. Rock of Ages next? Please?

Logical Dreamer

This is part of something called the "Red Curtain Trilogy," which consists of the first three movies directed by Baz Luhrmann. It consists of Strictly Ballroom (Which I highly recommend, it's a fun film), Romeo + Juliet, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and, of course, Moulin Rouge. This movie also has a stage show, and they incorporated a lot of modern songs, which makes it even better. If you thought the Elephant Medley was long, the Broadway one is even longer. Fun fact: In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, they named a character "Satine" as a nod to Ewan being in this movie.

Bee

Speaking of….have they SEEN Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo and Juliet!!!!!!

Anna Jig

loved the reaction!! this has been one of my favourite movies for years and years 💜 Now if you want more musical films and Ewan McGregor you can watch Velvet Goldmine!! It has an amazing cast and more bangers. Also, The Vampire Lestat tv series has drawn influence from it 😉 Vote for it here https://www.baddmedicine.com/recommendations?share=k0pn19heç

Amaia

I also like Coyote Ugly

Fen Zhao

I loved Mason Quinn not recognizing the biggest lost songs of our age. It’s nice to see such a variety of reactions! I’m an Oak. Loved this movie. Loved every song. Just went to see the Broadway stage version

Jasmin

I love this movie so much. Can't believe it's been 25 years already. I was obsessed with the soundtrack back then. Little fun fact Harold Zidler is played by Jim Broadbent, Professor Slughorn of the Potter movies. I thought someone might caught that. I think It’s time to pull up the soundtrack again. I'm glad you all liked this one.

Lauren

Since you guys didn’t automatically recognize “Your Song” by Elton John, I recommend watching “Rocketman” soon!

Lauren

How does MQ not recognize Queen?! I’m shocked and dismayed. Lol.

Brianna Blackfire

A beautiful movie. Masterpiece in my mind. It’s been on my top fave movies list for years.

Aria Isara

They should watch Bohemian Rhapsody too, at least MQ lol

Javier Padilla

A little fun Fact. Satine's necklece is one of the most highly valued pieces of jewlery in movie history. It's made of real dimonds and white gold. It's worth around 1 million dollars and it needed special security and bodyguards on set.

Victoria

Guys I get the jokes, but I dont know what I feel about the beggining. You are watching a movie that clearly starts with a dramatic intense scene, you should be more into the vibe and less into your own jokes :( I love you, I hope noone takes this as just critique. You are my favourite reactors and I watch everything on your channel. It is just that the reason you are my favpurites is that you take things seriosly and pay attention and the beggining here just threw me off.
