That conversation about actors taking roles against type ties right into part of what makes Ordinary People a worthy watch, and why I recommend it. Mary Tyler Moore was America’s sweetheart, beloved for warm and sunny roles. Beth was a complete departure, and it proved she could be so much more than the parts she had become known for. Add Robert Redford’s Oscar-winning directorial debut and Timothy Hutton’s Best Supporting Actor win, and you have a Best Picture winner that earned it. I’d argue it paved the way for the kind of quiet, devastating family dramas that followed. Manchester by the Sea, In the Bedroom, Marriage Story. They all owe something to what Ordinary People did first. It also put therapy on screen as something life-saving rather than shameful. Good Will Hunting owes it a debt for that.

Idk if you guys have noticed it yet, but the actor who plays Jaqen is also Enzo from Stranger Things! it took me a while to catch it at first, because they're both SUCH different characters lol

I'm Batman

So next season (episode 4 to be exact) we get a MAJOR SPOILER on events of House Of The Dragon and how it ends. Is there any precaution set for when that happens so y'all don't get spoiled or are you guys just gonna listen to the dialogue and hope you forget it when the season this event happens and hope you've forgotten it?

Jeff K.

I had totally forgotten just how early in the series the Hound decided he'd had enough of the Lannisters.

I'm Batman

One of my favorite quotes from the show. When he said that the first time I saw it I got so loud and pumped up, had me pacing back and forth in my living room clapping my hands and cheering lol.

Jack Warne

2x9 is top 3 GOT episodes for me

Raymond Terry

I was as giddy as Oak was to see the wildfire sequence again.

Kadence

Its wild Answer thinks Cersei would use her kids as a human shield

Aub

I feel people tend to not understand the pure intentions Cersei had with the nightshade. Obviously it’s still tragic and awful, but with the battle seeming to be lost and Stannis the victor, she is doing everything she can to prevent her baby son from having a viscous painful death. I really don’t feel there should be any shame in it personally 🤷🏻‍♀️ her other actions however? absolutely 😂

Eboe Thrasher

One of the little things nobody notices is that there are premonitions of things to come in future seasons strewn about in visions.

MarisoL

Mason mentioned how Jeoffrey at first firmly maintained to his oath with Sansa and in contrast to Robb who is not. Nice character detail when Robb is so much more likeable than Joffrey but Joffrey behaving more "honorable" at this moment.

JG

I'm just realizing House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres the same day as their upload of 3×9 and 3×10. What an epic night of GoT content that will be.

Marie RammGirl

Your reactions to Joffrey this entire season have never failed to amuse us 😂 That wildfire scene is always visually spectacular no matter how many times you see it. Yay for the "M'Lady, I'm off to go kill a man" & Answer's hiding behind Quinn as a 'Shield' impression hehe, great reactions of yours to what the 'Cat Dragons' did in captivity, still fierce even as babies 🔥 Theon Greyjoy's annoyance over the horn blowing was quite amusing on this rewatch (as was your reactions for it) "Whoever kills that F' N hornblower will stand in bronze above shore on Pyke" WAY he said it 🤣 & yea imagine our pain of impatience having to wait over a year after that massive reveal of what Sam saw, eagerly awaiting your reactions for season 3 whoooo.❤️ (yay for classic Arcade 'Dragon Slayer' title of Quinn's & William Regal references & the way way Answer signed off with those nickname titles hehe)

Unholy Tater

I haven't gotten around to watching the reaction to these episodes just yet, but in case it hasn't already come up: Oona Chaplin, the actress who plays Talisa Maegyr (the field surgeon Robb marries), is the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin! She was named after her grandmother.

Unholy Tater

Another thing! The actor playing Hallyne, the head of the Alchemist Guild, is Roy Dotrice. He was a personal friend of George RR Martin's and was the narrator for the A Song of Ice and Fire audiobooks.

Unholy Tater

Episode 9, Blackwater, was written by George RR Martin himself!

I hate that Sansa is still waiting to be saved by her knight in shining armor. Given everything we have seen thus far, I'd 100% take my chances with the Hound. He's already saved her once before and no one will mess with the Hound or survive if they do so. She literally had an out but she's convinced she can't save herself, someone else (of her stature) has to do it. This entire episode (9) I wanted Cersei to shut up. As far as I can remember, this was the only time I wanted her off the screen. 🤣🤣🤣 Episode 10, I knew that vault was empty the first time it was brought to our attention. Dude kept making a big deal out of his wealth AND no one being able to break into it yet never showed Danny any of that "wealth." Then when her handmaiden disappeared with the dragons, I knew. I think their comeuppance is one of my favorites because of how brutal it is vs a quick death.

Megan

She would use anyone but them. I think if it came down to it, she'd probably choose to die with them before she'd ever use them as a shield. We see how awful Joffrey is, she acknowledges it, yet doesn't do anything to stop it or get control of him.

Megan

Wildfire is my absolute favorite thing about GOT.

Unholy Tater

Haven't finished the rest of the reaction just yet so apologies if any of this already comes up, but regarding some things in the finale: - I don't think it's explained in the show, but Qhorin Halfhand is called that because he threw his right hand up (in the past) to save his face from a wildling axe and lost all the fingers but the thumb and index finger. It's possible they didn't delve into this in the show because of the similarity with Davos Seaworth (the Onion Knight), who had some of his fingers chopped off by Stannis. - In the book version of events, Qhorin and Jon attempt to flee the wildlings together (rather than Jon breaking off with Ygritte and falling into a trap). During this time, Qhorin commands Jon to swear his Nights Watch vows again before telling him he must join the wildlings if they are caught. When the two are caught, Jon does as he was told but must prove his sincere defection by killing Qhorin. Qhorin, who is both feared and utterly despised by the wildlings, knows he is either going to be tortured or killed and so accepts his fate, forcing the duel with Jon the way he does in the show. He attacks first so that there's no risk of Jon hesitating and the wildlings realising he's not genuinely defecting to their side. - In the books, Xaro Xhoan Daxos is strongly implied to be gay. He still makes his proposal to marry Daenerys, but shows no interest in her beyond her dragons (a wedding custom in Qarth would allow him to claim one of them after marrying her), and he is surrounded by what are implied to be his male lovers at all times. - In the book, Dorreah (the woman locked up in the vault with Xaro Xhoan Daxos in the show) has already died before Daenerys's company reach Qarth. She died in the desert from natural causes/sickness. - In the book, Xaro Xhoan Daxos does not get locked up/killed by Daenerys. He actually survives far into the books and is officially still "alive" as of the latest book (published in 2011...). - The book version of events in Qarth are roughly similar to what we see in the show, but there are some major differences too. For instance, the Thirteen aren't killed by Xaro and the warlocks. Regarding the white walkers, they look fantastic in the show but not really as I personally imagine them from the book descriptions (and interviews with George RR Martin) we get. George calls them strange but beautiful, says they look like sidhe (Irish fairies/elves) made of ice, and describes them wearing highly reflective armour. There are also stories about a Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who fell in love with a beautiful "corpse queen" (implied to be an Other/white walker).

RabidRabbit

"Missed opportunity to do something they did in HOTD!!!" I admit, I laughed at that. As for the moment when Tyrion’s bandages come off and y’all are all “Well, could be worse”? …yeah. In the book, he doesn’t have a nose anymore.

Djp

i fuck with bronn but The hound is snapping his neck so damn fast he has no clue what happened bros lookin sideways. tywion just shit on the KINGS doorsteps n bro aint do nun about it XD bro aint dare

I'm Batman

I'm having trouble remembering, do you know what season and episode has these premonitions for HotD events?

Colton

Ive mentioned it a couple times but im not sure if they already had prior knowledge. So hopefully they have it figured out.

I'm Batman

Fingers crossed, would hate for them to get spoiled.

Victoria

I cant with the fact that men dont understand Cersei AT ALL lol.

Victoria

It is hard for people to understand complex characters because sadly most people only see things in black and white and that is what they like. If they think a character is bad they will not pay attention to anything else. I've seen 7 episodes of this reactions and there isn't a single reaction of Cersei where they (Answer mostly) show any consideration for her motives, her backgroung or her position as a woman "in power" and what are the options you have. Everyone likes to criticise Cersei for EVERYTHING. At least in the first seasons I ask myself "where would they be if they were a woman in that universe? What would be their lifes (if even they were alive) if they were so righteous and good as they claimed everyone has to be?

Laura Murray

I agree, I'm not a fan of Cersei, but she's a fascinating character. I feel like as a whole, if a character does not have traditionally "masculine" traits, people tend to be suspicious of their motives, or character traits, regardless of if they exist out of circumstances. Like Sansa being villainised for acting like how she was brought up to act. Cersei is obviously evil in so many ways, but she clearly loves her children, and in her position, in this circumstance, you don't have many options. Female characters that tend to be more inclined towards traditional femininity, are never given the benefit of the doubt by people. So many reactors I see demonise Margery for being politically smart, and with ambition, but still being very feminine. They automatically don't trust her, while praising other men characters for having the same traits.

Victoria

I even find that they accept more Margery's character because she is more femenine. The whole thing about Cersei since childhood is that she wishes she was born male. That says everything about this world to me. We also lack a lot of clarity about how Cersei views the world and the safety of her children because in the show they don't tell about the profecy when she was a child but that's another thing. I agree with you honestly. It is very tiring to see people don't understanding Cersei and Sansa. Those are the two for me.

Laura Murray

I completely agree with you about Cersei. I was more meaning characters like Arya, that are given a lot more grace by male fans. Either way, it's frustrating to see people be so willing to understand some characters, and then act completely clueless about women. When we're just people, literally just the other gender majority. All nuance goes out the window
