Oak missing Armand! He’s coming to the dark side. Guys, please don’t tell them anything about Devil’s Minion, I need to see their genuine reaction if/when it does happen 😏

rin

Lou_Lou

Jennifer Ehle who plays Lestats mother, is in the BBC Pride & Prejudice. It is a must watch!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give it a WATCH!!!! Keira Knightley cant even come close to Jennifer Ehle's level!!!

Levy

Fun fact: the name Thomas Pitt is meant to be a reference to Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt so in the scene with the lawyers, they refer to Louis as 'Mr. Pitt'

Abiola Adunni

Whoa whoa whoa. Let's not get it twisted. There is no side of the story when it comes to Lestat's abuse of Louis and Claudia, but most especially the drop scene in 1x5. And this is the problem with the promo and narrative being pushed this season by showrunners and Lestat fans that everything Louis said is a lie or he's an "unreliable narrator". Even in the mediation scene, Louis takes a crack at Lestat when he says "Sam (the DJ) didn't get on a boat and rehearse lines for a play" that was a setup for him and Claudia's murder. That was him directly calling out Lestat for the part he played in that and if you remember in the trial, Lestat mentioned he was sorry for dropping him and it was one of the most regretful things he'd ever done. I don't know why all of a sudden only Lestat's telling the truth like he didn't evade telling Daniel he had a stutter in S3E1 or even in this episode mention that the conversation between Daniel and Louis was made up entirely by him since he was not there. I'm going to need a little more critical thinking and examination on why we should take everything Lestat presents us with at face value and not Louis. And this is coming from someone who watched your IWTV reactions when it first started and enjoyed them, but there has been a weird turn and not to call out anyone but it seems it's been about Lestat or solely Sam Reid's performance like Jacob Anderson didn't heavy carry S1 and S2 along with Assad and Delainey

Abiola Adunni

Also enjoying the show for what it is does not mean we as the audience cannot critically engage with the themes or perspectives thrown at us. Incest is still incest and it's gross and the parent is the one in the wrong, in this case Gabriella is f***ing gross. She was no strong or positive female presence in Lestat's life.

Macie

You don't have to trust Lestat's POV, but there is a reason that he narrates all but two books (TVA and IWTV) in the Vampire Chronicles. Anne Rice and the producers of the show says that Lestat has a sharp memory and anything that he doesn't immediately come forward about is because he doesn't want to face his own trauma. Louis is an unreliable narrator and this is a fact from the books and the show, but it also doesn't mean he lied about everything, so I get not wanting people to start believing him less but you still can't be too upset when people question him. His mind was tampered with by Armand and he was led to beilieve a false idea of what happened at the trial so it is not surprising that some of the story he told would be disproven later on. Also everything that actually happened at the trial has yet to be revealed and probably won't be until later in the series, so Louis saying that to Lestat is only proof that they have yet to have an actual discussion on anything which is what is driving each of their actions this season.

I would love to see your guys reaction to the show Big Little Lies it’s only two seasons! I think you guys would enjoy it!

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

OUTSTANDING reaction, as per usual, guys! I'm thrilled that we still have so much more story to come, but also sad that we have so few episodes left! Re: why Lestat calls Gabriela Sofia - in this episode, Lestat and Gabriela came up with a cover story for who they were to each other so that they could avoid awkward questions about their relationship. They decided her name would be Sofia this time around, and that they had met in Italy. Per Quinn's question about the song at the piano: the song Lestat was singing in French was a setting of the Baudelaire poem "La Fontaine de Sang" (The Fountain of Blood) to music we assume was composed by Lestat. There are several English translations, but basically the speaker says he feels as though his blood flows out of him in waves, even though he can't find the wound on his body where it is flowing from. It "turns the color of all nature red."

schwoopsie

I love how excited you got for I BET! Loved the episode, Sam Reid is fucking amazing as Lestat

Grace G

I'm so obsessed w/ this show that I've watched other channels react to IWTV (even though I don't watch reaction channels normally), but you guys are the only team I've found that I've enjoyed watching!! As someone who watched IWTV and then read the books before this season started to come out I absolutely love watching you go into it mostly blind. Great discussion of the Gabriella/Lestat dynamic, which is certainly...complex. I wanted to shout out that one scene in particular had dialogue taken wholly from the book: the scene with Gabriella tending to Lestat's wounds. Her monologue is basically verbatim from the book! And Appleton Oak saying "that's an interesting story to tell your son" -- yes!! 100%!! You guys always pick up on that stuff while remaining open-minded about the dynamics the writers and showrunners are trying to portray (while keeping in mind the biased perspectives of the narrator) and it's such a breath of fresh air to watch. Thank you as always!!

Abiola Adunni

I was going to respond and refute some of the points you made regarding Louis, his POV and his agency regarding Armand, but then I realised I'd be wasting my time. He's about as much an unreliable narrator as any of us telling our side of things. What I wrote is what I wrote

Grace G

also praying for your editors because I can't imagine the amount of editing this reaction needs to be acceptable for youtube lmao

Kayla

Louis is an unreliable narrator, but so is everyone else. Nothing that Macie said is wrong. No one is saying that Louis is a liar and that he lied about everything; but there are some things that weren’t told correctly (which is okay) for various different reasons which does play into the audience questioning what’s real and what isn’t which is the entire point. You’re supposed to question things. Louis’ version of things isn’t 100% accurate and Lestat’s version of things isn’t going to be 100% accurate.

Abiola Adunni

OK but how's that different from what I said in my original comment or response? And there are people saying Louis is a liar, lots of people including reactors think he lied about everything on purpose and that Lestat never lies or evades. The point of my initial comment was to caution them about saying Louis lied about Lestat's abuse and dropping him from the sky. That's a dangerous precedent to set on believeing abuse victims. I'm not playing the did "Lestat abuse Louis or not game", thats triggering AF. I'm also not going to engage any further with this post, because it seems like y'all just want to argue or champion Lestat and I don't have the patience for that

Seu Oz

Great reaction guys 💗

Seu Oz

But we don't know yet what's wrong or not, let us question the facts until we have some anwers, will you ? It has nothing to do with being a fan of a character. I love Louis and his layers. The more the better actually ! Also the guys are always praising all the actors for their job, they did it again in this reaction. I genuine don't know where all of your criticism is coming from.

stephgza

‪I always appreciate you guys’s analysis on every video‬ & the open mindedness about the disturbing topics on screen (even now) but on this specific one i’ll have to (respectfully) disagree! I dont think Gabriella was a good/positive influence on Lestat at all personally. In the Lioncourt family scenes it may seem like Lestat and Gabriella are “partners in crime”, i believe thats what Lestat really wanted from her as well as comfort, but we can see that illusion quickly shatters, at least in the viewers’s eyes, when his brothers start beating him & she just goes back to reading & ignoring him even as he tries to reach for her for help. I also believe their vampiric relationship isn’t supposed to be viewed as “normal” even as vampires & its supposed to make us uncomfortable.. A few clues of this could be Lestat saying on his narration how we’re being “very patient” about the whole incest situation, & in a later scene a specific acting choice by Sam Reid, who i believe to be very intentional with his portrayal, when Gabriella refers to their sexual encounter, Lestat swallows and, to me, looks visibly uncomfortable & tries to establish their “pact”, a boundary for no more encounters like those between them. Later Gabriella is the one to break the pact (boundary) Lestat had tried to establish between them. I also dont think of their twisted relationship as “justified” because of their vampirism, because this started before they were. Gabriella started that dynamic with his own son when they were both mortal in that scene after Lestat killed the wolves (if not before), so I dont believe their dynamic even as vampires can be dismissed as “monsters being monsters”.

Marie RammGirl

Yay for Answer hissing at Quinn again hehe ;) YES!!! PLEASE CAN WE SEE ALL 3 OF YOU IN SOME FORM OF IWTV/LESTAT GEAR FOR FURTURE REACTIONS PLEASE THAT'D LOOK SO GOOD!!!. Really liking Lestat's narration throughout these eps, Quinn's right it's sooo easy to get sucked in on their amazing acting & way they deliver their dialogue just completely immerses you into the story, had a cheeky chuckle over Answer's giggles & Quinn's bashfulness over the strip club scene 😈 & we knew it was coming, but I didn't expect the iconic "I BET!" scene so early in series, your pop reactions for it were just the best! 😊 very interesting backstory of Lestat's family, they got what they deserved in the end!.

T

Also a BIG theme for iwtv 1/2 was Louis learning his truth; which meant having to go through all the stuff in his brain that was shut off from him by external forces *ahem Armand ahem* and internal forces (grief). As a character he was sincerely trying to get to his truth and just understand what the hell happened to him in his life because he knew something felt off. So he was never lying intentionally but rather because he was trying to make sense with the belief that Lestat never loved him because he didn’t save him in the trial (that’s why there’s such a huge shift when he finds out it was actually Lestat that saved him). I think learning that really helped Louis acknowledge his grief of losing a daughter better because he finally had someone he could share it with/also take some accountability and standing in his identity as a vampire ‘I own the night’. Lestat on the other hand has no issues with memory being manipulated but he’s just VERY scared of going beyond his own surface to acknowledge that’s he’s ever been a victim. He can’t handle misery so he pretends like all the abuse he faced from his mother etc isn’t actually abuse but some profound complex love and support. So his struggle is going to be him having to reconcile that a lot of the people he held dear in his life that seem kind on the surface did the worst to him and also that Claudia would’ve genuinely been good for him and Louis had they both treated her right/done things differently.

hypocritex

Guys.. Sophia is the name Gabriella told the band her name was. They don't know who she is. They are making a running joke with calling her that. Lestat being a Rockstar.. is absolutely a temper tantrum he is throwing because of the book. Louis' book GREATLY hurt him.. ironically.. It was it's original intention.

Seu Oz

I actually agree with you ! But to be fair, there's so much information in each episode, I had to pause and rewatch to set my mind on Gabriella. Like the way Lestat is looking at Gabriella is very confusing and I could see the guys were as confused 😆

hypocritex

You're wrong. As others have already noted. Louis even shows his toxicity in this episode. Taking joy and poking and prodding Lestat. Louis was toxic AF to Lestat. Accept it. Some of us have read the books and actually know the truth.. And know Lestat. They are ALL toxic. The show has REVEALED this. You refuse to accept it because of your bias. But it's the truth. Lestat DID drop him. Louis DID goad him into finally attacking after restraining himself. He was not inherently abusive to Louis. Predatory at times.. Perhaps abusive in that moment where he dropped him. But not inherently. Withholding information. Yes. Predatory at times. Yes. Abusive? Eh.. Not as much as Louis was emotionally to Lestat. Louis WAS emotionally manipulative and abusive to Lestat. Regularly. Because he was miserable. . And the train thing NEVER happened with Claudia. They've made it very CLEAR in the show Lestat's memory is MUCH better then Louis.. whose mind has been tampered with. Accept it or don't. I don't really care. Just telling you the facts. Should we trust EVERYTHING Lestat is saying. No. But he actually KNOWS the truth. Also.. we ALREADY know that Louis' originally interview was filled with lies about Lestat. Purposefully.. To hurt him. The second retelling had some.. purposeful.. Maybe.. Some because he likely forgot... Or perhaps some planted by Armand.

Anaïs

*when (let me dream pls)

stephgza

It’s definitely a looot to take in, the episodes are so packed with information. This full conclusion took quite a few rewatches of some (very uncomfortable) scenes for me 😮‍💨

Seu Oz

Exactly ! And now that i can see it, Lestat is so uncomfortable and NOT OKAY with this situation. He looks like a little lamb around his mother, I feel so bad for him. And Gabriella can rot in hell.

Earthling777

How you don’t understand that we still haven’t seen everything that happened between Lestat, Louis, and Claudia blows my mind. And like another person says there is a reason Lestat narrates all but 2 books. You talk about critical thinking then don’t use any yourself, for example why would he at the start of the interview talk about something as vulnerable as his stutter? He’s had his story bastardised by Louis messed up retelling but he didn’t say no he don’t have a stutter did he? He may stay quiet but he’s not going to outright lie.

Abiola Adunni

If you come under my comment with any of that BS about Lestat being the perfect narrator or him not being abusive and then turning it into "Louis was emotionally abusive and goaded him into dropping him from the sky" (crazy thing to say/write btw), or playing any sort of abuse apologia, I'm blocking you. If you don't like my comment, don't engage. Because I will not change my mind or opinion, and neither will you if you disagree with me, so go b***h about it on your own

Mari Vaz

Common Armand go teach Daniel a thing or two, break the cicle! (Seriously because Armand is ancient and Daniel is his first fledgling, based on how power is passed down in the books Daniel has the potential to be super strong)

Knightmare

I love how Louis says he "hates himself" in Daniel's book for being a liar but then immediately after Daniel asks him if he's felt the way about Armand that he does about Lestat he immediately lies again 😂 "Sometimes it feels like me and Armand are the only two people in the world. Do you ever feel like that." "No, go get checked out. That's crazy." LOL!

Knightmare

I was expecting to be more disturbed by the relationship as it unravelled, but weirdly I didn't find myself to be. It's like I still have a feeling that I should find it weirder, but I don't actually find it that weird since they are both vampires. They have (literally) lost the mortal connection of mother and son. I think Lestat seems a little disturbed by it because of what happened when he was human, which actually did disturb me more than the correct relationship they do have. But then again, not that much. Because growing up--like Lestat said--these relations between family members weren't necessarily criminal culturally (morally), physically, or in the mind--especially in families like his with power. And he was already 30 when she hit on him. Of course, adults can get groomed too in some situations. But I really can't tell if he's uncomfortable because of internal or external factors. He has had a lot of time to rewire his 1700s mind and watch the world and its morals changed. He would have been around when laws banning incest came around and when psychology explaining grooming came around and when all the things he was feeling and experienced had been dissected and looked at by new generations and defined in plain, undeniable terms. I don't think Gabrielle is a good person OR mother. This is an absolute for me.

A

The way you all cheered at I BET really made my day 😂 also you’re so good at picking up all the themes on a first watch! Some of this stuff I had to watch twice to catch

A

Yes! Well put, especially Lestat trying to set boundaries with the ‘pact’ and Gabriella just dismissing and breaking it almost instantly

stephgza

To me he’s clearly uncomfortable by the fact that all he wants is company & comfort from her, & she completely disregards this and escalates even after he tried to stop it from happening again. She only ever shows up for him when he’s at his lowest (wolves, after New Orleans & now his tour) and she seems to always escalate it. So just the fact that Lestat has tried to stop it but she didnt respect that is enough for me.

spok

dw oak i'm obsessed with armand too

Saphthings

Fun fact!! The redheaded dancer that kissed Gabrielle, she's Claroos! A reactor! Her channel with her hubby is Nerdy Nightly on youtube lol. It was so shocking to just suddenly seeing her there! Happy for her!

Emily Rose

Lestat has always been a badass. Killing 8 wolves with his bare hands AS A HUMAN. Love that you guys react to this 🧛‍♂️

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

Bruce’s bombshell at the end of the episode was so good! I didn’t expect that 😱 And yes, Lestat’s family was so fucking weird that his relationship with Gabrielle didn’t even shock me that much 😅 Oak’s analysis in the post-discussion was awesome! Though I definitely didn’t see “I miss Armand” coming out of his mouth 😱

Miya

Aw that's awesome! Congrats to her! ETA: Omg I just looked up the channel she has with her husband and I definitely have watched some of their videos before haha. I didn't even recognize her!

Miya

I took that entire scene to be a figment of Lestat's imagination so Louis confession about not liking the way he's portrayed in the book and also stating that he's never felt that way about his maker, Lestat, tracks.

Miya

Yes! I also noticed Gabrielle's monologue was lifted directly from the book. I love when they do that.
