To answer your question: Yes, John dying happens in the books. In fact, John plays a bigger role in the show than he does in the books. Every Bridgerton gets their own season.

Sofie

I'm honestly so excited for next week's reaction! Episode 7 is one of my favorites in the entire show, and Hannah Dodd (Francesca's actress) does an amazing job. Looking forward to rewatching it with you guys

Chrissy

I was not expecting y'all to post so early but I'm here for it! XD

Ruth Miranda

Yes!! Watching this now! Love yalls reactions to this show it's my favorite season 💜

Becci

Yess and in the books Michaela (the cousin) ist actually Michael, but they changed him to a woman.

Amanda Diaz

Yes John does die in the books sadly. & Michaela is actually Michael in the books they just switched genders for the show. I’m glad he had a bigger part in the show than he did in the books.

Kickinthescience

John Stirling’s fate might be the biggest plot twist of the show

Emily G

Please consider watching Outlander after Bridgerton is over! It’s such a fantastic show and has way too few reactions to it! I would love to see your guys reactions to it! (It’s on the recommendations part of the website already if anyone wants to go upvote it)

Knightmare

The Mondrich wife is seriously so pretty it drives me crazy 😂

Knightmare

Yess I loved the John they chose. He was so sweet!

Christina

I second this! I found Outlander after I enjoyed the first season of Bridgerton so much. Outlander is now one of my favorite shows!

Lisbe Coetzee

To answer the question, yes. John does die in the books. In fact, we were quite blessed in the series with John as a fully fleshed out character as there is very little about John in the books. If I recall, the book has only about 2 chapters with John. I loved the Cressida reveal and found her redemption arch to be extremely fulfilling and worth the amount of investment from the writers over the previous seasons. In regards to Lady Penwood wearing black... It was customary in this time for a lady to wear black for a year to display mourning when their husbands pass.

Mika

You guys are delivering 🫡🫡

enyo96

yes!! such an amazing show!

r

"you know who he should talk to? two door" oh God😂😂

r

also a mistress is a woman (of no rank or "fallen") who is having intimate relationships with man (usually one at a time) and in return she gets allowance, protection, housing etc. and yeah the man can be married.

Al

After Bridgerton if you guys are interested in a fairly similar show The Gilded Age is a good one to watch. It’s about the “new & old monied elite” of New York, plus the wardrobe & sets in the show are beautiful as well.

AoifeWatches

Love this series!! Currently watching this while I get ready to go to Pitbull (with bald cap). Just girl things 🩷

Kickinthescience

Who would’ve thought Violet would have the most muscular dude on the show

V

I’m rooting for Sophie and Benedict to be together, but honestly, I agree with Anthony in this situation. First of all, their mother summoned him from his home and told him to get his brother in line.

V

Secondly, neither Anthony nor Violet knows that Benedict is truly in love with Sophie. Benedict had never committed himself to one person before; he used to move from one fling to the next. Thirdly, yes,Anthony did have a mistress, but if you recall, that relationship was a toxic nightmare with an unequal dynamic—he could walk away from her whenever he pleased—and it ended in heartbreak. Anthony doesn't want his brother to go through that same experience.

V

Fourthly, it poses a threat to the family’s reputation—something Anthony is bound to protect as a viscount. He was prepared to shoot his best friend and die in a duel to defend the honor of Daphne and his sisters, and he was ready to forgo a relationship with Kate simply because she was the sister of his former fiancée. He has always been this way; it is not a new trait.

V

Fifthly, Benedict cannot understand what it is like to grow up illegitimate because he was raised in luxury, whereas Sophie does understand. In the book, this is her primary reason for not being with Benedict: she does not want her children to live the same life she did. It turns out he does not fully grasp what his children would have to go through—something that is unfair to them—a point Anthony raised when speaking about his own son.

V

Benedict needed to hear all of that; he is too much of a romantic who lives in a fantasy world, and Anthony was simply pointing out the reality of the situation. You will see that this actually helps them. Most importantly, however, the scene demonstrated Benedict’s growth as a character: he is finally committed to something and is fighting for Sophie, rather than giving up at the first sign of difficulty—as he did with his painting and all his past relationships.

ondraya

Yes John dies in the books and I'm actually glad the show handled it this way because in the books John is like...barely a character and he dies in like the first 2 chapters. At least in the show we were able to form somewhat of a connection of John and know his as a character so his loss actually means something!

sandrinegeller

Don't forget to watch the post-credits scene in 4x08!!!!!!!!!

Kate

I think you guys would enjoy Jane Eyre when you hit the end of Bridgerton, to fill your Period Piece needs. I recommend either the 2011 movie or there is a really good 3 part miniseries from 2006

r

i honestly hate that they took whistledown from penelope (&hated how they force revealed it to EVERYONE last season too and now they're trying to undo it like this because it clearly doesnt work? lol) and i love that we saw more of John in the show but i am not a fan of the way they portrayed his and Francesca's relationship. It felt so platonic at certain moments, instead of a great love story.

Brittany R

I really love how the conflict resolution is structured in episode 5 (specificially, resolving the emotional and mental divide between Sophie and Benedict created by mistress-gate). We start the episode by seeing them having conversations with their friend/support system where it's not just a sounding board or their friend being 'you are so right, he/she is so unreasonable', but rather helping them to get insight into the other's mind and feelings. Although being a mistress is indeed demeening, Sophie's personal experience and background make her inclined to react ESPECIALLY viscerally to such an arrangement. Alfie helps her to contexualize it (being a mistress means stability, financial security, and freedom that she could never have as a maid) and allow her to understanding that Benedict probably did not mean it as a slight or an insult, but genuinely as an option for taking care of her and providing for her. Meanwhile, Will helps Benedict realize that although the social constraints that barrier him marry Sophie as his proper wife are understandable, that doesn't negate the emotional and mental hurt that being a mistress would cause.

rosie

I know they just posted but i actually cant wait for the last 2 episodes reaction 😭

Alinta_Energy

4x5 Diamond Dave resting his head on the mic is a new level of stressed 🤣

LilithCain

Oak...that was his wife. He was promenading/holding hands with his wife when they ran into his mistress.

Lisa Clark

"He went the quick route." "He went the SHIT route, is the route he went."

Lisa Clark

Also, I agree with DD about Benedict. He was so presumptuous in that moment: "I expected an answer." DUDE.

Ellie

Every time Oak says, "swing on her!" it gives me a good laugh 😂 Also Dave's microphone wilting at exactly the right moment was comedy gold! "It happens to some of us" lol. These reactions are always so entertaining, and I love how invested you are!

Becci

Yes he died of an aneurym

Lisa Clark

I'm going to need the Wisconsin Uncs to have a monthly dining club of their own with ~~imported cheeses~~

Knightmare

I mean it wasn't even a great love story in her book because he died in the first 15 pages lol. I sooo agree about Whistledown. I'm pretty sure they're setting up Alice to be the new Whistledown too but I really don't like it. I really would've preferred if at MAXIMUM the only person who it got revealed to was the queen. That would be fun imo

Mahnoor Ahmed

There’s an end credit scene in episode 8 of season 4. Please don’t miss it!

Sofie

In my opinion it was platonic, at least on Francesca's part, but that doesn't make it any less of a great love story. John was the first person Francesca felt truly comfortable being herself around, and she obviously adored him, just like he adored her. I understand that it's different from the books, but platonic love can be just as powerful as romantic love, and I personally really liked the way they handled it.

r

Yeah but at least in the book you can have a character's thoughts. And as much as i remember (tho it's been a while ngl) john & Francesca had a great marriage and intimate life right? I just dont think the pinnacle storyline was necessary, and more often than not it felt as if John's love for Francesca was more than hers for him, but that's me.

r

I mean yes, but if you're aiming to tell a story about how a person can have two great loves then no. It just feels as if it's opposing to what they made Francesca stand for last season aka love doesnt have to be loud and chaotic, quiet love can be as powerful too. Again, that's just how i felt though

LilithCain

If the boys didn't catch it... When Lord Penwood (Sophie's father) passed, the title went to his cousin, who became the new Lord Penwood. Araminta became the dowager (widowed) Lady Penwood. This is very similar to what happened with the Featheringtons in S2, when Cousin Jack became the new Lord Featherington and Penelope's mother became the dowager Lady Featherington following her husband's untimely death. You might notice that Violet is also frequently introduced as the dowager Lady Bridgerton. As stated in the show by the servants, the new Lord Penwood liked to live in the country, so Araminta and her daughters were permitted to live in Penwood House. But when the new Lord Penwood recently married the new Lady Penwood, they moved into Penwood House and kicked Araminta and her daughters out, which is what Lady Featherington was worried about during S2. P.S. Araminta wears black because she is a widow.

umhw77

Violet doesn’t necessarily know that Benedict is in love with Sophie, of course she sees that there is definitely affection there (love those moments btw how Mama B sees all) but especially given Benedict’s history, Violet feels extremely protective of Sophie as both her employer and finally some sort of caring mother figure in her life. So without knowing Benedict’s true intentions and the fact that Benedict in the past had never been one for commitment, I think there is fear of him blowing up Sophie’s life as well as the entire Bridgerton family’s lives and reputation over a “dalliance”

r

Also about Alice... Yeah i totally agree 😬 I feel like they maybe needed a reason to write nicola off and this was the way? Idk it just makes no sense otherwise lol

Brittany R

I actually think the new Lady Whistledown is Hyacinth. We know she's clever and articulate so that would translate into writing, she's obsessed with society and the social scene and was very enthusiastic about Whistledown (and visible distressed at it's ending), and thanks to Eloise and Sophie, she now knows how to be "invisible" to society people (by dressing up as a maid) so she could overhear secrets. Plus, since she's the youngest Bridgerton, her season will probably be last and thus the perfect time to wrap up Whistledown.

mae_annabelle

when araminta talks about her 37 shoe clips its like a call back to HP and dudley screaming "36! But last year, last year I had 37!" anyone else catch that??

Brittany R

Honestly the Modriches are like the HOTTEST people in the show.

Mina E.D

Yeh thats how it seems to me too. Its not like she thinks of Sophie as some random "harlot" for a lack of a better term. She actually thinks of her as a suitable match for him if it weren't for her status. We can trust that she's looking out for her and not (just) Benedict

Nina

In the books, we barely meet John. Francesca is married but in Scotland. When we get to her book, she's already a widow. So if you're a book reader, you know from the minute he's introduced what's going to happen. It's WAY sadder in the show because you know him and you see how they are together. You also know from the minute Michaela shows up that she's Francesca's pairing, replacing Michael in the books. It's also worth noting that in Scotland there were titles that could pass to a female relative, unlike in England. I'm wondering if the show takes advantage of that because book Michael is the new earl.

Jane

Guys once you are done with Bridgerton since you will probably be in a Cinderella mood pleeeeease react to Cinderella 2015 live action

Mina E.D

I really didnt think they'd go there fr

Bee

At this point I don’t know what I enjoy more - your enthusiastic reactions and detailed reviews of the Bridgerton series OR just watching Mason Quinn and Diamond Dave’s amusement at Oak’s passionate takes about true love!

Bee

Oak’s your remarks about “society telling two people who love each other that they can’t be together” means you guys should watch the 1967 Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner - released just six months after the Loving v. Virginia case was decided. Spencer Tracey’s final film, Katherine Hepburn, and Sidney Poitier. Or the film Loving 2016 with Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga. Celebrate Loving Day (June 12th) an annual celebrate of the freedom to love and create a family/life with whom you choose. Or Belle (2013) starring your favorite…Sam Reid. (Apologies if you’ve already watched these)

Manny D.

I am desperate for them to watch The Gilded Age. They would love it.

Mina E.D

Benedict this episode was really like "now BEFORE y'all hate me...."

Tara ✨💫

Since you three have been watching romance and drama with Bridgerton, I'm hoping you will check out "Off Campus" in this time slot when you finish. Like Bridgerton and Heated Rivalry, Off Campus is a book series that has been adapted into a show, but only one season of 8 episodes is out. They are currently filming S2 for next year. Like Heated Rivalry, it's about hockey players. You could knock out S1 in a month and then move on to a longer show.🙏

Tara ✨💫

Just a reminder! There is a post credit scene at the end of episode 8!

Tara ✨💫

Oak - keep in mind that Cressida was blackmailing Penelope last season. If Pen didn't reveal herself as Lady W, Cressida would have.

Paige

Yeah they gave us more time with him in order to rip our hearts out for the show. 😭

Paige

The actors are so fun in interviews. Apparently John’s actor was on the bed trying to make Franchesca’s actress crack while filming THE SCENE and it makes me feel better knowing that haha.

Paige

For real. It’s like bi panic all the time with their scenes!

Amanda Diaz

they are, it was in the July trailer they posted =)

Lisa Carr

One of the best reactions ever!!!! Loved it

Tara ✨💫

Thank you! I missed the trailer

FD

This season really does rip your heart out. The only other season that had as much heartbreak imo was QC. Also MQ mentioned the queen’s neck hurting because of her wigs, funnily enough the actress who plays her said that some of the wigs are so heavy that she has to wear a neck brace with them so you’re not far off

Ailene Evangelista

Oak’s rant at the end of episode 6 was epic. Lol 😂 what am I gonna do when these Bridgerton reactions are over? They’re absolutely the funniest.

Fee

I’m so sad next week will be the last Bridgerton reaction for a while. I’ll definitely miss Oak’s crash outs. I feel like nothing gets him so fired up like this show 🤣🤣

Hathor

4x5 @ 1:18:00 > @Mason Quinn, I thought the very same thing my first watch of this season. 😀

Stacey Stewart

I hope the guys read this for 3 reasons: 1- the black widow gets her karma in the next two episodes. Also, the black widow was Cho Chang in the Harry Potter series! 2- in episode 6, there is a mid (or post, I forget) credit scene, so keep watching! 3- John dies in the book, however, Netflix decided to gender swap Michaela. In the book she is Michael and he and Francesca fall in love after the death of John and they live happily ever after. So, it will be interesting to see how it plays out with a lesbian couple given Francesca’s life long desire to be pregnant and have children. 4- It is strongly hinted that Sophie’s mom wasn’t just a house maid. She was a lady-in-waiting to the Queen. They show Sophie playing with a handmade doll in green as a child, then the shots of the portrait of the Queen with her LIW, there was one dressed in green that looks similar to the doll and arguably has similar features to Sophie.

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

The boy hyacinth was dancing with when he went to get them some lemonade and just fucking got some for himself, I was like, "Is that a young Mason Quinn?" 😂

Ha'ane Rose 🦋

Sadly you don't get to know John as well as you do these past two seasons. So giving his character more screen time really does make his death more impactful when it comes to Francesca's grief because her book picks up a few years after his passing.

Cristy

My fave part is when MQ teases Oak and DD just sits there quiet but smirking. Great reaction as always, I've been loving rewatching this season with you, fellas.

Alanna Meyers 🍌

He has. A few episodes ago he talked about comments letting him know and he was like “I can’t believe I missed that”

Alanna Meyers 🍌

They talked about Black Widow being in HP a few episodes back

Cristy

They pulled up IMDB after the first two eps I think and noticed it was her too.

Marie RammGirl

Quinn/Oak's banter at each other was golden entertainment again 🤭 DD's microphone & what he said during Benedict/Sophie's 'Party Time' gave us such a burst of cheeky laughter 😈 Queen Charlotte shouldn't of been so adamant in finding out who Lady WhistleDown is if she wanted the same scandal/gossip as before, as we've seen the effects of how difficult it's been for Penelope continuing her 'Dirt Sheets' but interested to see how this new style of writing goes. Your pop reactions for seeing Cressida again was great, maybe there is some redemption for "Cressida The Reformed" mayhaps? ;) That scene of Queen Charlotte/Lady Danbury, no words spoken, just conveyed through a look in their eyes was perfectly done like that, thats pure friendship right there & noooo they CANNOT break poor Francesca's heart THIS early on in her marriage!. 😲

Isolde

When Michaela & Francesca were arguing and raised their voices, it kinda reminded me of Anthony’s & Kate’s arguing scene in early ep of s2😅

Sofie

Just looking at the show, I think they’re going a bit of a different route with Francesca. I got the impression that her "desire" for children was mainly a result of John’s wish to have them, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Francesca ends up without children. I honestly think that would be great, and different from everyone else. In the books she wasn’t even meant to have kids until the author was pressured by some readers into adding it in the epilogue.

V

They are clearly doing a little bit "enemies to lovers" with them and I love it

V

Also death scene is portrayed exactly like in the book, so accurate

Donna Rossi Youngblood

At 1:15:21 in the Ep. 6 reaction O repeats previous comments about the fact that "you just have to be OK with your choices and tell the world to "eff" off." But even if they are okay with being shunned by society themselves, the Bridgertons are a close knit family and the larger implication for Benedict is the impact it will have on his sisters. His choices don't just affect himself in this society. Everything was about climbing the ladder of social status and influence, thus Arimenta wants to "live next to the Bridgertons" and Lady F in Season 3 is obsessed with "being connected to the Bridgertons." Family's did not want to be associated with families connected to scandal and for Benedict to shun society and live out of wedlock would have vastly impacted all of the unmarried Bridgertons, to the point that if Hyacinth actually fell in love with a nobleman, it is unlikely that nobleman's family would accept the marriage. And as Sophie was trying to explain to him, they could love the children who resulted from their union all they want, but by being illegitimate in that day and age, all of their children's future job prospects and opportunities would be severely limited as well.

Donna Rossi Youngblood

Second point, Dave mentions that Benedict had a right to pull punches on the staircase discussion with Mom. Dave, you are comparing apples to oranges. Mom has NEVER in the history of her life since Edmund been with ANYONE, even a very plutonic male friendship. On the other hand, Mom has found Benedict in bed with multiple females and has seen him do nothing but flit from one hobby, girl, idea, etc to another, over and over again. They build his reputation for inconsistency from Episode 1. Mom grows to care for Sophie and doesn't want to see her hurt or ruined, especially by her one of her own children while Sophie is living in her household, and she has no reason, at this point, to think that he is seeking anything more long term with Sophie than he was last season with the blonde. This is one of those times in theater when the audience sees a character's heart, when those in the story don't, especially his mother.

umhw77

Exactly. The audience is privy to a lot more than the characters as perceptive as Violet always is. I think that scene was a low moment for me too on Benedict’s part because of all the guilt Violet had felt surrounding starting over with someone besides Edmund after 12-13 years and you can see how that interaction with Benedict brought some of that up again (ie the beginning of Episode 6 when she is upset and pacing and looking at the portrait of her with Edmund)

zy

I love how you guys are very emotionally invested in this, super love your reactions ❤️

JC

I definitely did! Very funny! 😆

rosie s

Disappointed in you Oak. Antony was trying to escape his responsibilities running away with Siena ( which he would never have done)he also asked Siena to the ball but he would never have married her. You have completely forgotten how traumatised he was until Kate. Antony was also quite correct re their conversation in the library. Benedict would be cut off from family. No money, no job, no friends, family but mainly the harm it would do to the sisters prospects. Tut tut Oak expected it from Diamond Dave but from you never😅 Apart from that how great was that scene between Jonathan Bailey and Luke Thompson. Still love you guys you are all hilarious 🤣

SaiSaivipa

Wonder if you guys caught the fact that the actress playing Lady Penwood - aka Black Widow - is Cho Chang in the Harry Potter series!

Jessica Rose

Lady Penwood wears black because she is in mourning. It’s traditional for widows in society after their husband pass.

Liloo99

THANK YOU OAK for pointing it out about Anthony being so hypocritical when he was going to do the same thing! it was my fist thought too!

Knightmare

Also, let's not forget that Violet is a GROWN WOMAN. A grown, WIDOWED woman. There is no reputation she needs to uphold the same way all the unmarried siblings do. Benedict can actually ruin the family by going around like he does.

Rawaby 1204

The oak being all pissed and yelling is so hilarious i love it

Rawaby 1204

Yeah they figured it out on screen actually, on the discussion of one of the early episodes

GEMsMama

That is amazing🔥😅 Hope it was awesome!!!

Nina

It's like an opposites attract, now that they're friends. It's like the puzzle - Francesca and John are the ground/grounded. Michaela is sky/chaotic.

Miya

I totally agree with this, but also agree with Oak's take that Anthony was condescending and haughty af especially in light of the shenanigans he pulled during the first two seasons. I think it would have come off better if he took the "I understand what you're going through" approach and then put his foot down.

GEMsMama

To be fair tho, Two Door could not get it together and the opera singer was not gonna take it anymore. Then she dropped his ass like the bad habit he was. 😅 He was left a single man, big difference between the two brother’s situations. And I really believe that was the wake up call Anthony needed to become the man he is ment to be, and step into the shoes of the Viscount with purpose. AND! Benedict is 100% right, He is not the same man that he was when 2 Door left for India, But Anthony is still treating him like he is.

GEMsMama

Benedict’s growth this season is everything! Luke did an amazing Job!!! I do think he needed to have this conversation with his brother and stick up for himself. I do also think the part about, “I should disown you…” Really Scared Benedict. He’s never known life without means and how would he be able to take care of his family with Sophie if he was disowned? That part of their conversation I think really changed his perspective on what their life would look like.

Miya

Your reactions to this series truly just keep getting better and better. The way I shriek-laughed at DD's mic joke and Oak’s rant at the end of Episode 5. “MF’er you’ve been divorced twice already!!” 😂 I don’t know if Oak is going to make it through the rest of this season y’all. Prayers up. 🙏🏽 As for these two episodes: I don’t care about the mistress and the cheater husband. They’re honestly both pretty awful for being spotted everywhere and embarrassing the wife and kids. I also was confused as to how they were supposed to be “so in love” but then the mistress mentions saving up money for when Cheater Husband inevitably drops her? Mmmk. Hyacinth's middle school dance was absolutely adorable and I’m kind of glad Benedict clapped back at Mama Bridgerton. It really showed how he genuinely cares about Sophie and wasn’t about to let anyone stand in his way when it came to seeing if she was okay. I know Bridgerton is a bodice ripper so I’ve come to expect a steamy sex scene, but I’m still a little shocked that Sophie slept with Benedict?? I mean, girl, I *get* it. But that decision put her in such a precarious position and I found myself being scared for her character. I'm so glad she ended up not being pregnant. Anyway, I’m also happy that the Queen let Penelope and Lady Danbury go. Great character growth for her and it made for a lovely moment between her and Lady D. RIP John. 🕊️

Miya

He really did have a point there. My issue with Anthony is how haughty he comes off during these conversations when he was in Benedict's position only a couple of years ago.

GEMsMama

Literally an, “Okay, Hear me out…” Moment 😅

GEMsMama

💀💀💀💀💀

Gabby

“Young man” “young female” well

FionR

I’m really glad that the show lets the viewer see some of Francesca and John’s story. The books tell us that they had a wonderful love, however, John is very much a secondary character in the ultimate Francesca / Michael(a) romance. Her’s is a story of love after loss and acceptance of things beyond our control. Book Violet never even considers a second act™️ for herself and the contrast is poignant.

Hira Memon

Outlander next pleaseeee

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

Ep. 5 notes “Did you at least make it clear that you wish, in some fantastical world, that the two of you could be together legitimately?” Oak: “THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID!!!” I love his enthusiasm so much! 21:45 Sophie and Benedict have a moment for the first time after his fucked-up proposal. MQ: “Don’t fall for it, Sophie.” Oak: “SHUT THE FUCK UP, DUDE!” That cracked me up 🤣🤣🤣 The way DD leaned forward with a disappointed “Benedict” at 22:14 was so entertaining to watch! 29:56 Sophie: “Do you have feelings for her?” Benedict: “No. I did. Until I met you.” Oak in an ecstatic state: “OH SHIT!” And by the end of the episode, when Benedict gave that passionate speech to Sophie, Oak was in heaven 😍 His constant “Oh shit!” and “This is what I said!” were peak reaction! And your reaction at 59:32, when Benedict swept everything off the table, was priceless! I didn’t even realize how absurd that scene was the first time I watched it, considering there was a bed right next to them… and the party was still going on downstairs! And then DD’s microphone wilted 🤣🤣🤣 I also loved how, in the post-discussion, Oak said Benedict’s recovery from “I want you to be my mistress” to everything he said in this episode was a monumental and historic comeback 🤣🤣

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

Ep. 6 notes 7:09 — Your cheering when Anthony and Kate appeared was so real! Oak’s relieved reaction at 15:59, when Mama Bridgerton said she believed Sophie didn’t steal the shoe clip, was adorable! And I was looking forward to Cressida returning to your screen, and your reaction didn’t disappoint! The scenes between Benedict and Anthony were hard to watch because I love them both, and seeing them argue and end up on opposite sides was really painful. The heat was really heating and the drama was really drama-ing if even DD, completely distressed, admitted, “I can’t take this roller coaster anymore” at 54:59! And starting at 1:01:17 he looked completely done 😅😅 It’s honestly rare to see Diamond Dave more stressed than Oak. “Please do not call what happened between us a mistake.” — That line really hurt me 😭 Poor Benedict! I was also waiting for your reaction to John’s sudden death because I knew you’d be completely flabbergasted and unprepared. Up until now, there hadn’t been any deaths in Bridgerton, so it felt like the show would always give its main characters happy endings. But then… here we go 😭😭😭 Oak’s “WHAT THE FUCK?” at 1:04:05 came straight from the bottom of his heart! “THAT’S HOW WE END THIS?!” when the credits started rolling was such a relatable reaction from Diamond Dave! I love how all three of you were so stunned by the ending that you could barely speak and were just trying to process what had happened. And I love Anthony, but I was LIVING watching Oak absolutely roast him in the post-discussion 😅😅 I agree that Anthony was being a hypocrite at certain points during his conversation with Benedict and was trying to manipulate his brother!

Gabby

“Sometimes people just need to be swung on” - Wise words from Oak

Nat 🌸

Please don’t forget the post-credit scene after episode 8!!!! 🫶🏻

Nat 🌸

I know I’m super late commenting but just something I’d like to point out what Diamond Dave said about how maybe there’s nuances that you guys missed in the puzzle scene with Francesca, John, and Michaela. There is actually a lot more to this scene and it’s so beautiful. Not a lot of people pick up on the first watch (me included). The puzzle acts as a metaphor for Francesca’s relationships with both John and Michaela. John completes the ground and Michaela completes the sky. Michaela says, “You cannot have one without the other.” Both relationships are essential parts of Francesca’s life and they’ve impacted her and will impact her in different ways. John completed the ground, showing how he’s her foundation, the ground she builds on, made her feel loved and safe. On the other hand, Michaela completed the sky, which represents her future, how she transforms her, brings out her carefree and fun side, while taking her out of her comfort zone. When they complete the puzzle with Francesca standing in the middle of them, it demonstrates how they make her whole. Also in the end of this scene, there’s John, who stands in the doorway looking at Francesca and Michaela with a smile on his face. To me, this is demonstrating how he’ll always watch over them with love in his heart and that he knows both of them will be okay without him because they have each other.

Add some beer samples as well. The amount of comments about how the Tartan Army shouldve been sent to Wisconsin instead of Boston these past few months makes me curious how much the cheese heads can drink.

Loved loved Oak's reaction going through Benedict's speech. Sadly even USA at the time had negative views of illegitamte children and while lots of those children did set foundation for many businesses and families in history at the time frowned upon. Then the whole blue collar vs white collar issues has been going on even today. Also, they said Americas so could've been North, Central, or South or even to the islands at the time. ep6- old people are the biggest gossip mill you can find they have their children and grandchildren then friends with similar networks. Benedict had been drinking a lot the night of the ball, Violet even smelling gin on him. Alcohol isn't great with remembering.

Rewatching this for the umpteenth time. But missed this the first few times because I didn't watch the entire after show analysis. I appreciate so much what Oak said about the way that we become emotionally invested in "fictional stories" even though we know they aren't true. We tell ourselves that it is fiction, and we shouldn't, but these are real things, that happen to real people too. I am a Theater Teacher and I tell my students that this is exactly what the art of storytelling is, as it is done through TV/Movies/Live Theater. The perfect quote that reflects what Oak is saying here about Episode 6 is from the great playwright Thornton Wilder, "I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being." These stories (if they are good, real, and well written) helps us to "walk in another person's shoes." (Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird), and that is when we begin to understand empathy, and empathizing with fictional characters impacts and helps us grow to become caring people in this world. Whenever I hear of school districts deciding to eliminates arts programs, theater often being one of the first to go, it hurts my heart because reading, writing, and arithmetic are useless if we cannot also teach students to function as caring human beings in society.

Even worse, Anthony would have married Kate’s sister if it wasn’t for her calling off the wedding first.
