I love Mason Quinn appreciating Deku's mad-lad nature. He is definitely the kind of hero to say "I see you, and I raise you..." It's one of his greatest strengths and weaknesses. The line of insanity is so very thin sometimes with greatness. Lol.

Like or dislike the dub, (I personally love both sub and dub equally), the best parts with the dub are how much the Voice Actors enjoy their roles, with All Might in his hero form, Iida Tenya when playing into the villan role (and in general), Present Mic (the announcer hero you see in ep 4, and that does the narrator voice) how much he enjoys using puns such as: Top of the charts, Listener's, Wasting airtime etc etc. Personally that brings another level of charm and humor to it. Another thing: If you haven't realised yet, All Might's catchphrase is "Fear not citizens, hope has arrived! Because I am here!" so you will hear him say that alot as corny jokes, like when he enters the classroom

I am so glad that they didn't take the fan service/inappropriate humor too seriously. Oak dying laughing at Mineta was not a all what i was expecting but really happy, because that was my one and only concern about this show when i voted it on the website and polls

Random Fun Fact: Plus Ultra isnt actually just from this show, it's a latin phrase and also the national motto of the country Spain (according to what i've read online)

Just want to clarify that Bakugo just went home straight after school cos he was mad. He did not quit the school. Also in the sub he says "I'll become a better hero than you" To All Might, not that he'll be more famous. He does actually want to be a hero.

Never done the dub before so trying along with you guys. It's fine so far but some of the differences are hurting my soul, like Aizawa without Sukunas VA, and Shoto without Erens VA, and Tokoyami without Reiner's VA. I just love hearing voice actors I know so it's confusing my brain 🤣 but enjoying it enough so far

Oak laughing at Mineta was hilarious 😂😂 I remember a lot of ppl were worried about the guys’ reactions to him, but I’m happy I had accurate expectations. You guys largely wouldn’t care or would even find it funny at times!

How are the 5 official filler episodes actually handled? Will the guys watch them? And what about the movies? I just realized again that the end of Season 4 and most of Season 5 are unfortunately pretty boring. Generally, most of the exams unfortunately drag on quite a bit. After that, though, it goes uphill again! BTW, All Might is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time!

bakugo didn’t say he wanted to be a villain he said the greatest hero of all time.. him being able to understand where he messed up in the training exercise shows his improvement as a character already

I'm definitely of the opinion that they watch it all. The movies are exceptional and include a TON of important moments. That plus the incredible animation each of them boast. Additionally, the OVAs are fun and skipping them really doesn't accomplish anything so it's best to just business as usual them tbh.

I also think it's important to remember that them watching 4-5 episodes at a time definitely changes things. Season 5 was a bit of a slog watching one episode a week, but 4-5 I think will make it a much better experience. The latter half of season 4 I actually think is great, so nothing to say there except I hope they enjoy it like I did :)

Hearing you guys talk about Bakugo has me really excited for you to see his journey. He's ultimately a character that has a LOT of layers and a lot of varying opinions about him.

Additionally, most characters refer to each other by their last names. So most will refer Katsuki (Kot-Skee) as Bakugo (Bah-koo-go) and Izuku as Midoriya (some just skip that all together and just call him Deku which works too).

Not the first time I’ve seen reactors think Bakugo is straight up leaving the school instead of just going home lol, I feel a little bad so much of the post episode discussion was dedicated to a thing not happening but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me chuckle

It wasn't even him leaving early as in he dipped out class before it was dismissed, he just didn't hang back and socialize after class with the others, I didn't see Todoroki or Koda there either.

Really loving these reactions so far. Only eight episodes in, and you guys are already touching on a lot of the show's central themes in a really thoughtful way. One thing I'll say is that this series has a LOT of depth, so by all means don't hesitate to go plus ultra when it comes to your post-episode discussions and your character analyses; I'm really enjoying them! Bakugo's character in particular has a ton of layers, as you'll continue to see.

If next next week is 5 episodes to end the season, MAN, the guys are in for something special. The second half of season one, in my opinion, is when this show goes from great to excellent. So many awesome moments.

Your misunderstanding about what Bakugo was doing at the end of the episode (leaving for good vs. leaving for the day) led to a bit of a misinterpretation about him. He openly stated that his loss that day, and his realization about his limitations, motivated him to double down and try again, not to quit for good. I assume that All Might would've tried harder to keep him from leaving if it seemed like Bakugo had actually quit the school. And yeah, like some others have said, the translation wasn't doing Bakugo any favors, unfortunately. It made his motivations seem quite superficial.

Eh, Oak laughed at first, but I couldn't help but notice that he looked kinda unamused by Mineta's last creeper moment from this batch of episodes (ogling Momo during the hero/villain exercise).

I really do think My Hero has one of the best dubs, but there are times when the way they’ve translated the original is very confusing. You’re not the only dub watchers I’ve seen interpret that Bakugo was leaving UA rather than just going home because school was over for the day. 😂 Also, Bakugo’s motivations are changed a bit in the dub, I feel like. It makes it sound like he just wants fame and money, but what he actually tells All Might is that his goal is to surpass All Might as a hero. He’s obsessed with becoming the #1 pro hero, specifically, not just a powerful or wealthy or famous person.

Clifford Chapin is one of the best dub VAs out there, but I still miss Nobuhiko Okamoto. 😂 MHA has one of the best dubs hands down, but the sub is SO goated.

Someone probably already mentioned it, but in the original Japanese, the reason Bakugo calls Izuku "Deku" is because the characters in his name can be read as either "Izuku" or "Deku," and the phrase "Dekunobo" means "useless person." But in the sub, Ochaco tells Izuku that it reminds her of the word, "Dekiru" which means "to be able to do it"/"to be good at it," and therefore reminds her of a phrase like, "You can do it!" I love the dub but I'm sad the meaning behind Deku didn't carry over fully so I wanted to share!
