Oak 5 mins into episode 1: What the fuck is this?!?! Funny part is that I always think the first episode is the most tame one because of how ridiculous the whole premise was. I've only seen the first couple seasons so this is gonna be a fun, depressing, dark ride with some lighter stories in between. I hope

The second episode is one of my all time favourite episodes of anything ever. It gets me sobbing every time. Abbi being forced into being a porn star breaks me every single time, and Bings speech. The fact it's from 2011 is wild because I have no doubt the world will be similar one day. We're already almost there.

Have been meaning to watch the full Black Mirror series for years, but hesitated because it's so dark from the few episodes I've seen. Watching with a blankie and my internet big brothers. xD

The entire point of the whole series is how we are impacted by technology. Re: Episode 1 - The pig is merely a premise, if you notice, everything else in the episode is about technology: uploaded at what size, where they are talking about it, can they use tech to put someone else's head on him, she's using a camera phone to take pics to send to him to get him to leak. Camera phones only became universal around 2003-2006, and this show was broadcast in 2011 which means it was probably shot in 2010. It was still fairly new to be putting people sending nude selfies to bribe people for info in a show. So yeah, this is my first time rewatching and now knowing that it is about tech I am seeing it everywhere and how much they are focusing on it, while using the pig as a magician's trick to keep your focus elsewhere. It is interesting to rewatch with that knowledge.

I honestly hate how not one person is worried about raping an animal. Everything is "gross" "humiliating" for the PM. But no concerns about the pig. That is truly the one big statement in this episode for me.

It really is. I honestly don't remember it, "USSR Calister " and "Play Test" and "White Christmas " are the 3 I remember most. But your right it gets worse with a lighter episode now and again, this is literally existential crisis the TV show, I'll never forget the first time I watched this show lol

All episodes of Black Mirror reflect real life - that's why it's got "Mirror" in the title. It's showing ourselves to ourselves. Each of the episodes ends in such a way that you can't help but ask "What would I have done in this situation?"

Black Mirror is a reflection of our uneasy relationship with technology (the black television screen reflecting your face to you, as you say in the first episode). Every episode is about how technology rules our lives, and each episode (if it does its job correctly) should end with the viewer asking themselves "What would I have done in this situation?" I'm so excited for everything coming your way - there are some episodes of pure genius in this show. this is the first time I'm even touching back mirror and I wish the first episode surprised me but there have been so many real life cases of people sexually abusing animals. I wish I could be shocked . Im not even shocked at the enjoyment from people eager to see an animal get r worded

I disagree that all of them reflect real life. There are definitely a few episodes, won't say which ones, that heavily reflect our reality right now. But outside of those specific ones, the rest of the show is pure sci-fi fantasy.

Before Episode 2 happened, in 2003 there was a "game" called Second Life where you had an avatar and people owned land and hung out and would DJ and have parties and such. It was way ahead of its time, and it was peaking in 2009 so it is highly possible that it impacted this episode. It still is online to this day - it has never really had more than a million users, but it also predated the time period where people talked about selling virtual land in the "Metaverse" - which was a phrase coined well before Facebook changed their corporate name. Second Life is considered to be a pioneer in the concept of a Metaverse, as you can create your own items there and sell them to other players and even cash out your excess in game money into your paypal account. Some people have made a bunch of money from offering certain services inside Second Life.

Great reactions, thank you. I just wanted to say two things about the third episode. Yes, I agree with Mason Quinn that the main character lost his eyesight when gouging out his grain, as that is confirmed as a possible risk of pulling it out. Secondly, an important point for me in the third episode is that it's not the technology making their relationship a dysfunctional mess. Rather, technology can make it easier to engage in problematic behaviour, such as by allowing someone to act on their excessive jealousy by obsessively rewatching their partner's body language with someone else.

I’m so happy they are finally watching this. I knew ep3 was going to hit hard, and bring a lot of discussion. Imagine if we had the grain, and you could hack politician grains 😂 Like imagine if you got it, and it was able to download old memories, and we could see historical events as they happened without retelling bias and rose colored glasses. Or even current events like Ukraine or Gaza, someone uploads their grain to the web or share’s it. And then personally. Every bad decision, every lie you ever told, every corner cut objectively and fully accessible and on display. It would completely fracture our society as we know it, and really change how people act. Also the black market of stealing or copying people’s grains and selling them would be a crazy marketplace. Ep3 is one of my personal fave episodes because it really does make you think. My friends and I discussed this ep soooo much in college when the show was added to Netflix. One of my fave shows ever!

2026-09-18 14:00 Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but episode 1 is based on a story about David Cameron an ex prime minister who allegedly did certain things with a pig head in a Cambridge university society initiation. It was an anonymous claim from a member of parliament and was never proven. But it’s interesting.

This is my favorite show of all time. "Shut Up and Dance" and "San Junipero" are my favorites but overall the show is great. It's so different than anything I've ever watched. Every episode really makes you think, and it's great for discussion afterwards. Yes sometimes the topics are very out-there and uncomfortable but that's why I think it makes for great discussion!

I've been meaning to give this show another try, I was honestly bored with it. I skipped episode 1 because my coworker, who recommended it, gave me a heads up. I don't know if I made it through s1 but I did watch San Junipero (I think in s2 or s3) because another coworker said it was a fan favorite. And she was right, I LOVED that episode. So I'm ready to give this show another shot!

The disturbing nature of Eps 1 ramped up the shock value to the max to get viewers talking about show, the looks on people's faces watching THAT act being performed was like, this is wrong, but they couldn't look away sort of thing, what a twist in end with the Princess, it was certainly a power play by the blackmailer, just wanted total humiliation for someone in high power career. Eps 2 I think was the favourite out of all 3 Eps, very interesting concept, since we're never told properly, it's up to us viewers to use our imagination to Summarise what's truly going on, I thought maybe a futuristic Dystopian world of where people either chosen this life or forced into it, good symbology of exploitation & consumerism. Even though he accumulated a more easier/luxurious life, Bing ended up being part the very thing he despised. Eps 3 Showing the effects of what obsession can do, especially with advanced technology like an eye implant memory chip, it has it's pros/cons, but he definitely abused it, yea she did something wrong, but that obsession cost him everything. Interesting watching the dangers of technology throughout these 3 Eps & liking how it's a different story with different characters each time. Answer's "Entirery" & Quinn laughing over it was amusing 🤭 & Oak is correct, in UK it's called a "Waistcoat" if you ask for a vest in UK, you'll be given a Tank Top. this show is a 1st time watch for me too, so I'm gonna enjoy taking this wild ride with you great guys, look forward to more. ❤️💙💚

My all time favorite show, boy are you guys in for a wild ride. Tales that are horrifying, tragic, uplifting, hilarious.. but every one of them a warning or a reflection. Charlie Brooker is the GOAT. Oh.. and there's some episodes on par with Episode 1 for shock value. One in particular made my stomach plummet through the floor. Have fun! One thing to look out for, they like to Easter Egg their own show. So keep an eye on newspapers, news headlines, books and objects that connect certain episodes together. Its a fun hunt.

My favorite episodes are White Christmas, Shut Up and Dance, Nosedive and Common People. I can’t wait for their after episode comments on those. But I really love all the episodes. These are the perfect guys to react to them. They have great first reaction comments and thoughtful after episode discussions. I would pay extra for another Patreon episode of just their thoughts on each episode. Like an “after the fact” reaction.

Everybody was watching the broadcast at first. which is what he had counted on. When she passed out in the middle of the bridge, that would be out of the range of the CCTV cameras unless there is also one in the middle of the bridge.

I'm going to give it another try because I like the concept of the show and I've seen a few reels from newer episodes that piqued my interest. But I went in to the show expecting it to be on par with The Twilight Zone and it just didn't hit the first go 'round.

It was CCTV that picked her up half an hour earlier. I get that the general public may have been interested in what was happening on TV, but I just don’t buy that British authorities would stop monitoring central London, or that central London would be completely empty, broadcast or not. That part was a bit of a stretch for me. 😂

just wanted to relate the first episode to the NFL with its players. More and more we are seeing players with CTE and their lives just completely ruined from this horrible disease. Even now with the guardian caps the players get clowned on and made fun of for wearing a piece of equipment that could save them from a serious brain injury. Yet every week millions of Americans tune in for the last 50 years and they give the programs the views that justify their players derailing their future

I think the first episode had to be shocking to drive the point home. If it had been anything else, people wouldn't have stopped their lives to watch. The more extreme and grotesque gets people's attention. Think about the "Two girls and a Cup". I've never seen it, nor do I want to, but even I've heard about it because it was talked about THAT much. Also, when this episode first came out, before I saw it, people were talking about it just like the people portrayed in the episode. It was perverse, unimaginable and sickening, and still people were compelled to discuss it and not shy away from viewing because, "There's no way a show would go that far," or "In what context did they do this and why? I need to watch the episode now to see for myself." Viewers in real time became just like the viewers in the episode. I think artistically, the episode was brilliant in the aspect that while we are disgusted by it, the episode ended up imitating peoples reactions in real life. Also, I think the end scene during the credits isn't discussed enough. I believe it portrayed that while that moment in time happened, it was the most talked about event. And then, just like all things socially shared, scandals, etc, life goes on and people are talking about the next big event. The family still has to live with the event/tragedy even if the world has moved on.
