Folks, WOW what an episode! This was the fastest 1h 20m ever! This episode was a fantastic kick off in our opinion. So much happen and if have played the game, a lot of things played out in here. We feel that with Neil and Craig, this first season is going to be in good hands.

Hey guys! I loved the reaction and really enjoyed rewatching it with y'all, but Diamond Dave needs to chill. I get that he's excited because it's such an amazing story, but he gave away so much, both verbally and nonverbally.

Wow I'm blown away at how well this show is made but expect nothing less from HBO. Dave I'm sure you caught this but the actor who plays Marlene is the same person who did the voice acting for Marlene in the game. Thought that was super cool!

i was expecting a car the whole time during so the plane really caught me off guard, but wow this episode really blew my mind. I dont think ive ever seen a game adaptation be done this perfectly, the casting was amazing and it really kept me on edge! and the fact that it only gets better from here.

Great episode! Definitely added so much stuff, expanding on the beginning, and changing a lot of the interactions/characters intros. I do wish we saw Tess and Joel interrogating Robert, with breaking his arm, smashing his knee, and finally killing him, but the makers of the series did say the violence was toned down a bit compared to the game. Cant wait to watch more with you guys!

Yeah actually the fastest hour twenty of my life, maybe because when playing a video game every moment is more drawn out because of combat. Kinda upset they aren't doing the Spores in this version since the underground gas mask levels in the game are so tense but overall I would give it a 9/10. I can't give it a 10 just because I feel like the video game did better in certain scenes. I also love that not all of you guys have played or watched the game, makes for a very interesting reaction.

Very tempted to check this show out for the channel, haven’t played the game tho so idk if that would make it harder for me to understand

Game elements discussed below. It was pretty good, things are expanded upon here, shuffled around there, and tweaked every now and then, but a fair chunk of the changes seem to feel like an even trade: truck vs plane crash, handling the neighbors; or have practical elements to them: particle effects don't play well over live actors and tendrils are fairly clear and horrifying in their own rights, Robert's segment is a game basics tutorial which is unneeded in the show so they spend the time giving background on the smuggling and the fireflies that players get via reading collectibles. I really enjoy how they follow the cinematography of the game by focusing on someone sleeping for a hot moment then snap cutting to X hours later. I sort of wish they had put the intro sequence after Sarah's death because processing the event over that music is such a key memory from playing the game, but if that is the worst I'm asking for then they're doing pretty well.

Honestly, you should and gameplay doesn't really matter. They did great in the ep to explain stuff and more to come as the layer are pulled back.

I'm a super massive fan of the games and have been following the production of this show for about two years. I am super happy with how the show is doing things so far. Basically everything from the game is in there. They have expanded on all the scenes, just adding more detail. The production process for this show is Crazy. Roughly $13 million per episode for the budget which is as much as the later seasons of Game of Thrones. Which is mad for season 1 of a show.

Regarding translating the game elements to the screen: I loved the whole sequence in the truck, watching it unfold literally through Sarah's eyes. It felt so true to the game through that entire set piece.

I believe the voice actor for Marlene in the game is the woman playing her here. Also, the voice actors for Joel and Ellie are supposed to appear on this show at some point. So be on the lookout. I'm going to be listening to peoples' voices so hard lol.

Yep, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson have both publicly said they're going to be in this season. Can't wait to see where they pop up. I've read who Ashley is playing, and it's kind of a brilliant choice (assuming what I've read is true). I don't know who Troy is playing, though.

I'm 50/50 on the Spores. I think it would've added another level to the adaption on TV, but I also get why they didn't too.

Definitely some difference's. But overall very satisfied with it. 🤙 I was shocked they used a plane instead of a car. That was unique.

Dave has to be careful that his enthusiasm in pointing out differences from the game mid reaction can lead to inadvertently spoiling things. Love his excitement tho lol

I'll be honest, I'm not a gamer and I never got into TWD so this series wasn't on my radar and I had zero intentions of watching it until I saw this upload and thought 'what the hell, just give it a try'. So I went in completely blind like Quinn & Oak and - Holy God - this might just be the strongest pilot episode I've ever seen! I am clearly not this show's target demographic but it totally doesn't matter because they have me HOOKED with the amazing writing, characters and plot. I don't think I even blinked the entire time. I am all in! Thanks for turning me onto this show guys. Looking forward to Sunday.

Loved the episode. I played the games and most of this was such a great adaptation. I felt the extra scenes added to the world and characters so far. Sure some action scenes are missing but I rather have world building and character moments than scenes of shooting constantly. The only nitpick I have is before the daughter gets shot. In the game the guard says something along the lines of "they have a child". That for me makes the order so much colder and desperate. A shame it wasn't included. Awesome start and cant wait to continue next week!

The casting is so well done, and they managed to pull off filming one of the most memorable scenes in a game so well. Thandie Newton's daughter does the prologue perfectly. Also saw someone mention a GoT reunion- we have the Viper escorting lady Mormont.

I am less than thrilled with the casting. Its downright not even close. Not a knock on the actors cause they do a good job. I don't remember Tess pushing 50 or sleeping with joel. I think Bella Ramsey is horrible as Ellie. saying fuck every three seconds and being the same age doesn't make you Ellie. With that aside, I'm trying to give it a chance and remembering its an adaptation not a carbon copy

Oh man!!! 🔥 One of my college friends actually worked on the game, so I’ve been EXTREMELY EXCITED for this series. Watching my old roomie play the games and everything had me hunting for the differences. Super impressed so far & loving the reactions from y'all 🤘

Watching you kept me grinning rather often which probably didn’t match the tone of the show haha but it did add a great light-hearted element! Considering though, I reckon you did a pretty good job at not spoiling anything since what you were reacting you pertained to similarities with the game or details that referenced future events rather than something imminent; so you didn’t give anything away, probably just confused Mason and Oak! 😂 Hope you continue to enjoy, I wonder if going forward you’ll catch many other little details you miss on first watch whilst you’re editing the show for the channel :)

It was an awesome episode, I really like the direction they’re taking with it and I’m so excited for the following episodes !! Also, just a note, I don’t know if you guys plan on keeping the guitar intro for the next episodes, but I found it a bit too loud compared to the sound level of your voices, it was a bit hard/distracting to hear you at the beginning

I so wish I could watch the full length version with you guys, but unfortunately, being in the UK, our streaming service version of the show is sped up just a tiny bit to fit our slightly different frame rate, so the watch along would be out of sync. still enjoyed your edited one over on YT, glad to see you all enjoying it. I super loved this ep and its everything I could have hoped for so far!

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't "Ellie saying fuck every 3 seconds" be an issue with the writer/director not the actor? I don't know if I agree with being so harsh towards Bella (people online are mostly bashing her bc of her looks, not acting), but I'm open to opinions :)

I don't understand why it's so important for some people for the actors to be an exact replica of the in-game characters. Pedro doesn't have Joel's iconic beard, nor does Bella have similar face structure to Ellie, yet I was sold on the characters straight away. I think it makes no sense to cling to characteristics that go beyond concept, it literally doesn't add anything to the story.
